17: Truths

Phoenix’s lips are turned down in a frown, her eyes still on the door Sibel walked out of. It is taking a lot for me to not turn her face so she is looking at me alone.

“She is your fiancée,” she mumbles, just loud enough for me to hear. Somehow hearing those words come out of her mouth feels like a stab in the heart. “This will only make her hate me more,” she groans, throwing her head back.

I shake the amusement I’m feeling and reply to her with. “I never said she was my fiancée,” she gives me a blank look and takes a slight step back, I take another so we are still as close as we were before.

“Are you scared she’ll hurt you?” I ask her, softly. Balling my hands into fists because I want to touch her, but I don’t think it is the right time to do that. “I won’t let anything happen to you, I’ll protect you.” I vow, not only referring to Sibel but always. She is now my responsibility.
