“Is it all right if I come in and talk to you for a moment, Akari?” John said, interrupting his thoughts. “Your father said you might not mind.”

Akari shook her head. “No, it’s fine. I think I must have had a little too much to drink last night is all. I don’t remember much.”

“I’d think not,” John said in an amused voice, coming farther into the room and plopping down on a chair by the bed. He motioned for the servant to set up the tray by the bedside. “You did tie one on. You had a good reason to get drunk, though. Have some coffee; it might make you feel better.
