MAYA

“ Miss Maya, is there something else you'd like to tell me or let me make it easy for you to understand, aren't you forgetting to tell me something? “ Liam asked me with a serious expression on his face.

“ Huh? “ I asked out of confusion as to what else he wanted me to ask and he just raised one of his eyebrows giving me a questioning look, then I realized I didn't use the right format to ask him so I immediately corrected myself.

“ No! No! No! “ I said, shaking my head vigorously and using a wave of my hand which signifies No to let him know I didn't mean the huh I said.

“ I'm sorry I meant to say what else would you want me to say, sir, “ I said after clearing my throat and letting out a breath.

“ Is my presence so suffocating that you have to let out breaths when you are with me? If I employ you as my assistant, you would share this office with me. Is this how you would be feeling uncomfortable? “ He asked, obviously annoyed. Why is this man so short-tempered I thought to myself.

“ No sir that is not…. “ I wanted to continue talking but he interrupted me with a raise of his hand. This man is so annoying, I mumbled and prayed he wouldn't hear me.

“ What did you just say? “ he asked and my eyes widened in surprise. How on earth did he hear what I just mumbled? Okay, now I officially know I'm not getting this job.

“ Not…Noti…Nothing sir “ I stuttered finding the right words to use. I was beginning to become pissed off myself, this man was an annoying arrogant asshole.

“ Not…Noti…Nothing sir “ he mimicked me and I felt like slapping this stupidity out of him.While he just sat there now smirking and all of a sudden his cold expression came back.

“ Leave your phone number and Email with my secretary Henry,you will receive a text or Email about whether you are employed or not. Have a good day Miss Maya Allen “ He said and began to sort out some files on his table when he noticed I was still sitting he motioned for me to leave his office.

I left his office with my hands fisted. I went to Henry’s office to leave my phone number and Email. When I got in he saw from the look on my face that all wasn't well.

“ How did it go? “ he asked me. I sighed first of all before I told her all that happened and she exhaled.

“ You know the boss is always like that, we all adapt to his kind of person don't take it to heart eventually you might get the job okay? So just cheer up and keep your hopes up “ he said to me and I smiled grateful for the words of consolation he just said to me.

I left the company building after dropping my Email and phone number with Henry. Since I had no money for transportation I started walking home, it was gonna be a long walk because my house was very far from there.

I walked for minutes before a black luxurious car suddenly parked by my side on the road. I couldn't see who was in it because the glass was tinted so I kept walking. Why would a luxurious car stop for me anyway? Maybe the person parked to pick up an urgent call, I thought to myself and began walking again.

But this time the car still drove to where I was walking and I heard a car morning at me and turned to see that the glasses were wind down now and it shocked me to see Mr. Liam. He just sat leisurely in the car with one hand on the steering wheel as he eyed me.

“ Are you waiting for an invitation? Hop in “ he urged me but I was reluctant because I felt embarrassed for him to see the kind of place I live in and what if him seeing my home would aid him to reject employing me?

“ No thank you, my house isn't very far from here “ I lied to him and hoped he'll just carry his troublesome self and drive away.

“ I insist, “ he said with finality and I found myself walking to the passenger side of his car, how wouldn't I when the aura emitting from him is domineering and commands respect.

I got into his car and fastened my seat belt. He drove us after asking me for the location myself and to my surprise I didn't read any anger or disappointment on his face when I told him, rather I saw a look that I couldn't quite understand but I was sure it wasn't a look of anger or disappointment. Seems like he is in a good mood now I said to myself.

“ Do you always form a habit of doing that? “ he asked, now irritated. Shit, I forgot I was in his car and he might hear me.

“ I'm sorry sir, I was just… “ I wanted to continue talking but he interrupted me again. This man sure had the habit of interrupting people when speaking.

“ Keep the explanations to yourself, “ he said and focused on driving without sparing me any glance. The atmosphere in between us was tense even though the air conditioner in his car was on, I still felt trickles of sweat rolling down my forehead, and I felt claustrophobic luckily for me, he pulled over at the parking space directly in front of my house building.

“ Thank you, sir, “ I said to him and smiled but he didn't respond so my smile seized and I went into my house. How am I even supposed to get this job when it's obvious that the boss dislikes me for reasons best known to him because I'm sure I haven't offended him in any way.

I went into my room and locked the door behind me. Good, Lucas got the message clear enough this time, I walked to my wardrobe and saw that his clothes weren't there anymore too. He truly left. I exhaled sharply and wanted to begin crying when the pictures of him naked on the bed with Chloe, my best friend, came into my head.

Why did they have to betray me this way, It hurt. I cried until there were no tears left in my eyes to cry. The first thing I did after that was shower, then I put on my pajamas and went into my kitchen to take out the leftover food I kept.

While eating I spent my time thinking of where I would go tomorrow in search of a job because today's job hunting is canceled. There's no way I'm gonna get that job.

Ever since my parents and elder brother died when I was six and I was taken to the orphanage, that was when I began to fend for myself, and when I clocked eighteen I met Chloe, who turned out to be my best friend, she took me out of the orphanage and rented this apartment for me.

Who knew she would betray me and have sex with my boyfriend. As for Lucas who is now my ex-boyfriend, I met him two years ago when I was 21 years old.

He had nothing so I asked him to move in with me, even though he was exhibiting signs of laziness by letting me take care of our expenses alone I didn't care because I was blinded by love. Now I realize how foolish I have been. I'm done thinking about those two bastards I resolved within me.

I have already positioned my mind on places I'll go in search of a job tomorrow. I wanted to strategize more but I fell asleep immediately after my head touched my pillow.

The alert tone on my phone was what woke me up in the morning. I lazily got up to check who texted me and found out it was 4 am.

I unlocked my phone and all the sleepiness in my eyes cleared due to the fear and shock I was feeling due to the text message that was sent to me.
