Anne's POV.

“I'm going to work very soon.” Eleanor said, informing me of her excuse. I nodded and leaned backward. The suggestion seemed to assure me that it would work with her support.

She rose, walking toward the bedroom. “I'm going to dress up for work.”

I replied, without looking at her. “No problem.”

I took the remote control, flipping through multiple channels before I settled for one. I love watching fantasy movies a lot. I found one and my heart leapt for joy.

I am eager to be involved in a lot of things that keep me busy or that allow my heart to heal from the past marriage that still haunts me. I want to forget the past heart-broken. I don't want my mind to linger in that pain of regret anymore.

So, watching movies that entertain, cause me to laugh and heal my broken heart became a priority for me.

A sharp clicking of Eleanor shoes against the polished floor hit my ears. She was coming out of the bedroom toward me. I looked at the direction.

REVEALING HER LEGAL GENIUS.Anne’s POVThe silence that followed Maxwell outburst was suffocating. The tall man’s eyes gleamed under the fluorescent light, sharp and unreadable. The door clicked shut behind him, the sound echoing through the room like a verdict. I could feel Maxwell’s tension — the way his body stiffened beside me, his fists clenching at his sides. The doctor had gone still too, his hand frozen midair above my pulse monitor. The man took a slow, deliberate step toward us. “Now,” he said, his voice calm but thick with something unreadable, “why don’t you both tell me what you’re doing here?”My heart was hammered. Maxwell shifted closer to me, shielding me subtly.“Who are you?” he demanded, his tone clipped, controlled. The stranger tilted his head slightly, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. Then, to my utter shock—he chuckled.“Relax, Mr. Maxwell,” he said lightly, as if nothing was wrong. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”I blinked, confusion replacing fear. Max

PROPOSED WORK Maxwell’s POVFor a long moment, I could only stare at her — this pale, fragile woman lying on the hospital bed, wrapped in white sheets, speaking with a kind of quiet conviction that didn’t fit her weakened state. My mind spun. Her words replayed in my head, clear and deliberate.A company… fraud… she wants to help.I blinked, trying to steady my thoughts. “Who… who are you?” I managed to ask, my voice low but trembling with disbelief. “Are you a security officer?”She smiled faintly, her lips dry and pale. “No, Mr. Maxwell,” she whispered. “I’m a lawyer — or I was, until…” She paused, her gaze falling to her hands as if the weight of her past pressed on her chest. Then, with effort, she looked up again, eyes sharper now. “But I know how these things work. I’ve worked with an auditing firm before — we tracked a similar fraud case two years ago. The culprits thought they were invisible, but we dug them out, one by one.”I straightened, curiosity burning behind my disbel

FROM COLLAPSE TO CONNECTION Anne's POV The ambulance finally arrived, its piercing siren slicing through the air and faintly reaching my dull, fading ears. I could barely make out the commotion around me—the hurried footsteps, the scrape of the stretcher wheels, and the anxious voices calling out instructions. “Handle her carefully,” I heard one of those people approaching me to place me on the stretcher. My body felt weightless, my vision blurry, and all I could see were flashes of red and white lights flickering above me as I drifted in and out of consciousness. When they lifted me into the ambulance, the world around me felt distant and strange — a blur of motion, sound, and fading color. I could hear muffled voices shouting commands, the hum of the engine, and the rhythmic beeping of a machine beside me. My body felt cold, my limbs heavy and unresponsive. Every breath I took was a struggle, and the edges of my vision dimmed like a curtain slowly closing.“Stay with us, miss! W

A SUDDEN COLLAPSEAnne's POVThe next morning, after a long night of little sleep, I made a decision that I was going to get myself busy with work, not having in mind any relationship from any man.I stood before the small mirror in Eva’s guest room, brushing my hair and staring at the face that looked back — pale, tired, but resolute. I had lost love, trust, and peace, but not myself. Not entirely. That afternoon, I set out to find work. The sun was bright but not kind; its heat clung to my skin as I walked from one street to another. My shoes gathered dust, and my body ached, but I refused to give up. I entered a few stores, asked politely, waited for replies — mostly rejections. Then, at the corner of Maple Street, I saw a small restaurant with a handwritten sign that read “Now hiring-waitress.”I paused, staring at it for a long moment.Taking a deep breath, I stepped inside. The air smelled of freshly cooked food — warm, homely, alive. Behind the counter, a woman in her forties w

I LEFT THEM Anne's POV “I am done!” I yelled, my voice breaking with sorrow but quite strong as I advanced toward the road to take a taxi. Eleanor who had been lamenting and sobbing profusely kept calling and begging me. “You can't just leave me alone like that, Anne.” I will not change my mind to walk out on falsehood friends and ex-boyfriend who I was about to give another chance for love but turned out to be deceiving me. I can't do that anymore. “No!” I finally said, as I sank into the leather chair inside the commercial car. The driver sped off. I have said no to her, and her belongings and not just the apartment, but the version of me that still believed in second chances. I reminded myself that I might not believe in love again as I was staring at the rearview mirror, tears streaming down my cheeks. Within a few minutes, I had been soaked and wracked with tears. I don't know where I am even heading to. I just boarded the vehicles and told him to drive straight o

WALK OUT AGAIN. Anne's POV After days of uncertainty, of replaying his words and my hesitation, I had finally decided to stop fighting what I felt. Maybe he really means it this time, I told myself. Maybe he’s truly changed. The corners of my lips lifted slightly as I imagined his reaction when I’d tell him yes. I could already hear Eleanor teasing me when I got home, could see her smile when I’d admit that I’d finally agreed to give Crystal a chance. Everything was going to make sense now. Everything would fall into place. Or so I thought. The moment I reached his door, I hesitated — something in the air felt… strange. I could hear faint movement, muffled voices, and a soft laugh. I frowned. My fingers hovered over the doorknob. Maybe I should knock. The sound became clearer to me each second. I could hear the moaning of a lady. I grew nervous, and pushed the door open. My eyes widened with shock when I saw them having sexual intercourse on the bed. Crystal was serious
