Arielle's POV

What's going on? I mean, how did we get to this? The same man who claimed not to give a damn about me had his lips placed on mine.

I gently disconnected our lips and tried to push him away, but he held me tighter. "What are you...?"

"Shh," he hushed me. "Play along. This is a little way you can pay back for my car."

Then he kissed me again. Much to my surprise, my lips slowly began to move in rhythm with his.

Oh goodness. I let a stranger have my first kiss. I didn't just let him. I was actually kissing him back.

When he finally let go of me, I was breathless, gazing into his eyes with shock. I was drowning in those deep blue eyes of his that reminded me of the ocean.

"Luciano!" A high-pitched female voice rang behind me.

Turning back, I was surprised to see an elegant lady staring at us with tears streaming down her cheeks. The man finally let go of my waist, and I regained my breath, although the thudding of my heart didn't cease.

Now I get it. He was using me to make the other woman jealous.

"Cosa ti prende? How could you do this to me?" she said, her accent coated with heavy Italian.

[What is wrong with you?]

"Oh, ti prego, Bella. Non sentirti troppo importante," he said flatly. "Maybe if you had come earlier, I wouldn't have called my girlfriend to come along."

[Oh please, Bella. Don't feel too important.]

Their argument was already attracting other people's attention. I stood there, transfixed, and glancing from one person to another, unable to understand what they were saying. I had lived in Italy for a greater portion of my life, and I never tried to learn their language.

He grabbed my waist again. "Now, if you will excuse me, I've got some catching up to do with my girl."

Your girl? What had I gotten myself into?

"I'll tell everyone about this. You'll regret this!" The lady yelled.

He chuckled. "What's the worst that can happen?"

I didn't fail to notice the hard glare the lady shot at me before stomping out.

Then I turned to the man. "I don't get it. Who are you?" The question left my lips.

"That should never bother you, principessa," he responded while staring into my eyes and cupping my cheek with his large palm. "You did well."

Anyone looking at us right now would think we were actually a couple.

His eyes darted behind again and narrowed. I couldn't even do a thing. I was just there, trapped in his cage and wondering who he was and the kind of authority he possessed.

"Mario!" He roared all of a sudden. Everyone froze and turned to look at him, but no one dared to look much longer. His voice alone commanded attention. It was as if the earth froze and everyone came to a standstill.

Can the ground just open so I can fall inside? What kind of attention seeker is this?

The supposed Mario came forward, holding a camera. I could sense the fear in him as he stood before the man, Luciano.

"What the hell do you think you are doing?" Luciano snarled.

"Non volevo tradirti, capo, è tuo nonno." [I didn't mean to betray you boss, it's your grandfather.]

"You're working for my grandfather now?"

Mario pursed his lips. "I can't say no to him."

"Elimina quelle immagini." [Delete those pictures]

Mario flinched. "Tuo nonno potrebbe uccidermi." [Your grandfather might kill me]

Luciano swallowed. "Meriti di essere ucciso." [You deserve to be killed.]

Nonno. Okay, I caught that one. That's grandfather, but the rest were vague. I hated the fact that I was lost. I wished I could quietly walk away and end the strange event of a day, but his arm was wound tightly around my waist.

Mario bowed his head slightly. "I'm sorry."

Luciano's eyes seemed to soften. "What would you have me do?"

"Play along with her."

"Leave," he ordered in English, then Mario left. Then, he shifted his attention to me.

"What is your name?" He asked.

"Arielle," I replied, still shocked at the turn of events. I didn't want to answer, but I couldn't stop my lips from moving. Maybe because I was scared. The dark aura emanating from this man was terrifying.

"Where are you from?"

Why the sudden questions? But I answered anyway. "New York. What do you want from me?"

"You're going home with me," he said with a stoic expression.

"Excuse me?"

"I don't need to overemphasize that. Grab your things and follow me."

He was damn serious.

"Okay, okay. This is absolutely crazy, you know. You have no right to order me around. I'm not going anywhere with you!" I screamed.

He didn't say a word, he just stared at me with hooded eyes—no expression.

"It's not a request. Follow me, Arielle," he said. The way he mentioned my name startled me. It sounded like an abomination on his lips.

"No," I replied boldly.

His lips curled into a smirk which disappeared as soon as it came. "I don't take no for an answer. You'll find exactly what you're looking for."

I squared my shoulders and shook my head in disagreement. "I'm not going with you."

"Fine," was the only reply he gave before striding out of the art gallery.

Large numbers of heavily bodied men dressed in black followed him. I thought those men were guarding the gallery, but they were Luciano's guards.

Who exactly is this man?

I swallowed a hard lump that had formed in my throat and watched as every one of them walked out. Soon, normalcy was restored to the gallery, and everyone continued with their chatter.

I let out a sigh of relief then went to another painting. A warm smile appeared on my cheeks as I began to describe the painting, even though fear was clawing at the back of my mind.

Gabriel's POV

"How can she say no to me? No one has ever defied my orders," I barked, pacing around the parking lot outside the gallery.

Everyone sensed my anger as they all avoided me except Alessio, my closest man who came forward, trying to calm me.

"I could have dragged her with me. In fact, I'm going back in there to get her," I continued ranting.

Alessio stopped me. "She is not willing to follow you. People will notice, and your grandfather wouldn't be happy."

I gritted my teeth. "If it weren't for her importance to me, I would have designed her very death by now."

"She's a woman," Alessio reminded me of my rule about not hurting women.

"I know, but she's getting on my nerves."

"Be a little more patient. We will get her for you."

I had used up a lot of patience just tonight. First was Bella, now this... Arielle.

The people started leaving the hall, and it was just me and my men, waiting.

For her.

  • Mafia's Art of Love    Chapter 70

Arielle's POV I stopped the car in front of the house, taking a deep breath as my hands tightened around the steering wheel. I had completely lost control of my whole being since I saw Luciano this evening. My heart had been racing nonstop, and the hairs on my skin were standing on edge. I should be angry at him. I had every right to lash out. But he was acting like everything was normal between us. Yes, he had apologized, but there was still a lot going on inside me. And there were still unanswered questions about our family rivalry. Without sparing him a glance, I got out of the car and slammed the door shut. Okay. I'm actually mad at myself. Mad for melting into his kiss, and even more for kissing him back. I heard the door slam again, and when I looked back, I saw him standing there. He was slightly hunched over, his face twisted in discomfort, his hand pressed to his stomach. He was wounded. This was the only reason I tolerated him. Or at least, that's what I told myself

  • Mafia's Art of Love    Chapter 69

Gabriel's POV"Thank you for being there," Arielle said to Luca who had escorted her to her car."That's not a problem. I guess there was a reason for talking to you today. I scared off that stalker," Luca replied with a hint of pride.Scare me off? Luca, you must be joking."Thank you," she replied."Can I get a... hug? Just as a goodbye."F**k you, Luca. Arielle hesitated for a moment but then nodded reluctantly.I stared as she gave him an awkward hug. She looked uncomfortable, and I could sense it. So why did she agree to hug him?I stepped out of my hiding spot. At first, I tried so hard to tolerate Luca. I was willing to give him the credit for making sure she got to her car safely. And then I'd talk to her after he was gone. But why would he ask for a hug?The moment they pulled apart, both of their eyes landed on me.Arielle let out a gasp, clearly shocked to see me. Maybe even scared. She had never seen me like this before. Blood all over my suit, madness burning in my eyes,

  • Mafia's Art of Love    Chapter 68

Arielle's POV I knew someone had been stalking me for four nights in a row. But each time I tried to catch a glimpse of the person, I never did. It was scary at first, but then.. there was no violence. No confrontation. And eventually, I started to feel... safe. It felt like I got used to it. Like... whoever was hiding in the shadows was my protector. How could I explain the fact that I felt protected by someone I couldn't even see? It was strange. Finally, I decided not to stroll again. I'd drive. Then, if the person still followed me, I would allow my curiosity to take over. Driving meant taking a longer route, but it felt safer. Immediately after I settled into my favourite spot in the library, someone sat in the chair beside me. I looked up to see a young man who looked purely Italian. He smiled at me. I returned the smile and went back to my book. He moved closer. "Ciao. Sono Luca. Sei nuovo qui. Non ti avevo mai visto prima," he said in a low tone. [Hi. I'm Luca. You

  • Mafia's Art of Love    Chapter 67

Gabriel's POV She was everywhere — in my thoughts, in my face, even in my actions. What hadn't I done to get rid of her? I literally did everything I could think of, except seeking therapy. There were so many reasons why I hadn't gone for therapy. What if the therapist wouldn't understand my plight? What if I ended up killing the innocent therapist just because he or she would struggle to understand me? So, I turned to painting. I painted with actual paint... and somehow, I still ended up staring at her face on the canvas. I also tried painting with blood, but stopped the moment I imagined her sitting across from me, frowning in disapproval. F**k! I sprang up and abandoned the painting. I was definitely going insane. A brief sense of relief came when I had to attend another meeting, this time with government officials. My grandfather had arranged the meeting, and I made sure to be there. I needed to keep busy in order to distract myself from Arielle who lived rent-free in

  • Mafia's Art of Love    Chapter 66

Gabriel's POV PRESENT I opened my eyes, took a long drag from the cigarette and released a thick wave of smoke into the air. With all the chaos that had happened in my life, I still wondered how I managed to scale through without going insane. Well... the Mafia. This empire helped me, and I'd always be grateful. As I sat out there, lost in thoughts, my gaze fell on a shadowy figure clinging to the wall that separated the estate from the outside world. The location of my room gave me a perfect view of nearly every angle of the estate. I squinted, trying to make it out more clearly. And then, I saw them. Several of them. Humans hanging along the wall. A slow chuckle slipped out of me. I put out the cigarette, crushing the tip in the ashtray. Massimo and his pathetic games. What was he thinking—that he could stage a siege on our clan at three in the morning? I stood up and moved inside. None of them would notice my movement. The balcony was cloaked in darkness. My room was e

  • Mafia's Art of Love    Chapter 65

THIS CHAPTER CONTAINS SCENES OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. Gabriel's POV "No. No. Don't take her," I yelled as the men dragged my mother out of the dark room we'd been locked in since morning. I struggled to go with her, but one of the bulky muscular men shoved me back, sending me crashing face-first onto the cold floor. As I scrambled up, the door slammed shut, and I was left alone in pitch darkness. I sat up, hugging my knees to my chest, slowly realizing that I was truly alone."Mom," I whispered, hoping she could hear me and reach out to me."Mom!" My voice became louder.I called her again. And again. And again. No one replied. No one cared.I blinked rapidly, desperately searching for a source of light. But there was nothing. Only a veil of absolute darkness. And when I couldn't take it anymore, I simply shut my eyes, wishing for sleep to take over.Time ticked by. I must have fallen asleep, but I didn't know for how long. When I woke up, I was trembling like a leaf. The hairs on my
