CHAPTER 21

“Yes, I have eaten,” William said softly.

“Very well. Goodnight, William.” Matthew bowed slightly and walked away.

William climbed the stairs with Matthew's words still warming his chest. He reached the bedroom door, turned the handle, and stepped inside.

And froze.

Why is he still awake?

Jacob was sitting up against the headboard in his navy pajamas, the top buttons undone to reveal a glimpse of his chest. A file lay open on his lap. He didn't look up.

"Where have you been?"

William walked as fast as he could with Leo following right behind, still insisting on seeing a shaman. “Will you stop Leo,” William said, irritated. Leo sighed, giving up… for now. “Fine.” William exhaled. Finally, his ear will rest. He glanced around, feeling the breeze move through his hair. This is kind of nice. He should probably check out his department. “Do you have anything else to do?” William asked. “Yes, I have a doctor's appointment today.” “Are you okay?” “I'm fine. I need to change my suppressant. The one I’m on isn't working for me.” “Oh,” he mumbled, his steps slowing almost imperceptibly. “Do you want to join me?” “No.” He paused. “I will check out my department first.” “Alright. See you later.” Leo gave a small wave, and walked off. William watched him go for a moment, then turned left. He didn't need suppressants. He had never needed one. Not once, despite being an omega. His jaw tightened at the thought. Maybe he wasn't truly one. Since h

William rose from the bed with a heavy sigh, depression weighing heavily on him. Two dollars. Just two dollars. The words kept circling, unhurriedly and merciles, like a cruel chant. He freshened up, changed into one of the new clothes he had bought, slung his shoulder bag across his chest, and left before his thoughts could catch up to him. __________ William stood in front of the towering gates of Vanguard college and went still. A constant stream of students moved past him in both directions under the harsh midday sun. He watched them for a moment, then looked up at the gates and felt something warm and unfamiliar press against the inside of his chest. Then he spotted Leo in the crowd. He raised a hand, called out his name, and Leo turned and rushed toward him with a grin. Leo tied his long shoulder length blonde hair into a neat ponytail, his emerald eyes sparkling in the sunlight. “Sorry for being late.” “No, I just got here.” William replied. “Shall we.” Leo said. They

Jacob asked, low and even. William stopped in the doorway. " At work." “And you didn't bother to call home?” “My phone battery was dead.” A heavy pause settled between them. Jacob slowly closed the file and set it aside. His steel-grey eyes lifted to meet William's. "You smell like grease." William's hand tightened on the doorframe. "I work at a chicken place." "Not anymore." Jacob's voice was calm. Flat. Final. "You're quitting.” William's stomach dropped. What does he mean, I'm quit

William finished the delivery run and slipped back into the Tasty Gina Chicken Place through the back door. The moment he stepped into the counter at the main restaurant area, the rich aroma of fried chicken, spicy sauces, and smoky seasonings wrapped around him. A few customers were devouring their meals at the tables. “Will,” Michelle squealed, her eyes lighting up. She rushed forward and pulled him into a tight hug, her cheek warm against the top of his head. “I missed you so much. You're literally the only reason I look forward to coming to work.” She drew back slightly and placed a hand dramatically over his forehead. “I feel alive again.” “You’re going to squeeze him to death.” Vicky said dryly, sliding a plate of fried chicken and fries across the counter to a waiting customer. Michelle reluctantly let go but kept one hand on his arm. “ I deserved that hug, okay? Considering I have been covering all his deliveries for days.” She tilted her head, batting her lashes. “So...

William quickly freshened up, wearing his old pair of jeans and shirt. He looked at his reflection for a fraction of second before stepping out of the room, and heading down stairs, where Matthew stood at the foot of the steps, as composed as usual. He lowered his head slightly.“Your breakfast is ready, Sir William.” “Thank you. Please…could you just call me William.” He said, rubbing his neck. It always sat uneasy with him , hearing a man older than his father calling him sir. “Is there a problem with it, Sir” “Umm- it just doesn't feel right to me.” “But it's a protocol to properly address the master of the house as such. You're Sir Jacob's husband, the staff shall address you with respect.” “Then will you call me William when we are alone.” “Yes si- William. I shall address you that way in private.” A small smile broke across William's face. “Thank you” he muttered, walking towards the dining room. The long table was laid out lavishly, every dish still steaming hot.

It was another bright day, except that William's eyes fluttered open feeling like shit. He slowly rose up, his entire body aching. He glanced at the bed beside him. It was empty. He looked at himself. He was clean. He immediately checked between his legs…nothing was leaking out. The bedsheets were spotless too. Did sir Jacob clean him up? Maybe he had. At least he wouldn't have an upset stomach today. He stared blankly at the empty space beside him.Beep. Beep. His phone vibrated on the nightstand. He stretched out his hand and picked up his phone. “Hi, Leo” William said, his voice was hoarse.“Check your portal, right now” Leo's voice buzzed with excitement.“Why, what happened?” William said, already scrolling through his phone to check his portal while still talking to Leo. He froze. His name…boldly printed among the list of accepted students for Vanguard college. He wanted to scream, but his voice was already gone from the night before.“Leo, I got in,” he whispered in disbel
