THE MAN HE WAS

They walked into the house slowly and they could see the maids lined up in the living room as they stared at Alex’s face anxiously.

“Take her upstairs and prepare a warm bath for her,” he ordered and they all nodded immediately.

They took hold of her hands and she followed them up the stairs slowly.

He heaved a sigh and sat on the couch as he watched them leave. Just then, his phone rang and he saw his father on the caller ID.

“Son, what’s this I'm seeing all over the internet? Alex fell into a pool?” Mateo’s anxious voice sounded from the phone.

“Yeah, I don't know how she got in there,” he said grumpily.

“I’m glad you came through for her. I was proud to see you become her hero tonight. It seems you are about to reveal the other side of you to her,'' he said.

Silence fell in and he heaved a sigh.

“Father, I’m tired and I need to go to bed,” he lamented.

“No, you’re gonna stay beside Alex for tonight. She needs you beside her,” he said.
