As he returned, Eric was carrying a bag, which he quickly threw to the backseat, so Rosalyn couldn't see what it was.

He glanced pointedly at Rosalyn's neck and started the car.

The shawl around her neck really matched her clothes, and most importantly, it hid the hickey on her neck.

Eric shrugged. "That's unnecessary. I know enough to clean up my own mess."

It'd be a waste if she said no, and like he said, it was his mess, and he should do that much for her.

That was something strange about people—when they came around, they didn't feel embarrassed at all.

With that, they were both silent as Eric drove to the nursing home, with Julia already waiting at the front door as they stopped.

Just seeing that left tears welling up in Rosalyn's eyes.
