Chapter 1

"Veronica!" Sky shouted, looking like a puppy that was about to be given a treat.

"Yes, Sky?" I grinned, watching his childish behaviour.

"Rogues." He said excitedly.

I nodded, smiling along with him, "How many?" I asked.

"11," he yipped.

"Big group, this oughta be fun." I smirked. "And location?"

"Up north by the old pack house," he informed me.

4 years ago the dark moon pack resided in this territory, it was four years ago that I had teamed up with Sky, and we began to train each other, being a white wolf, I instinctively knew some fighting techniques, and in return for proper training, I taught Sky how to stay in tune with his senses a little more.

Back then we were just starting out, we didn't have anything but the clothes on our backs and the knowledge in our head.

We caught wind of the alpha passing away from the dark moon pack, and knew that the pack would be at it's weakest. We heard the news from passing rogues, rogues were thought of as vicious, but honestly most of them were only rogues because they had been kicked out or just didn't like the rules. Rogues had a strange community, they might attack packs but generally they leave other rogues alone, they aren't looking for trouble, sometimes they just happen to find it.

The rogues we had spoken too wanted to be in a pack more than anything, but no one would take them, there was only three of them, but were getting denied everywhere just because they weren't too used to pack life, they'd been rogues for too long. So we decided to band together, we figured if we could get some territory then we'd be able to become a proper pack, and we decided that I would be the alpha.

Yes a female alpha, in the wolf world females are viewed as weak, but honestly, I was the first white wolf in a heck of a long time, so I personally didn't care about the 'unspoken rules' for being an alpha, and neither did the rogues. Besides, being a white wolf came with some pretty awesome benefits, for instance I was able to hear another packs alpha order if it was through mind link, and sometimes if I get really mad, I can move things with my mind, but that happens once in a blue moon.

But anyway, we decided that we would attack the dark moon pack, try and claim their territory. Of course once we got there and told them they could either hand it over willingly and join our pack or we would fight them for it. Naturally they wanted to keep their territory, however about 4 of them actually joined us. But the other 36 of them weren't so easy to give it over, they didn't take me seriously, since I was female.

Now that really riled me up, so you can imagine what happened next.

I just snapped, no literally I actually just snapped the beta's neck with my mind. That was when I discovered that particular gift. It really scared the rest of the pack I'll tell you that. With no authority, they didn't know what to do, it was pretty easy to attack from that point.

A couple more joined us, the rest we killed. Bringing our groups total to 12, which, fair enough was pretty small for a pack, and yes we were a pack then, considering we had territory. However we had managed to take on a pack of 40, and word was starting to get around.

The pack's territory was pretty good, uneven land meant that it was harder to attack, the dark moon pack hadn't used this to their advantage though, so we quickly taught ourselves how to handle our land.

The pack house was pretty crappy, we couldn't really do much in it, so we decided to just leave it as a backup and build a new, bigger house. Because news of our attack was travelling, it wasn't long till allies of the dark moon pack began to try to claim back the territory for themselves, but we were well prepared, and dodged their attacks by hiding and jumping out when they least expected it. We killed most of the packs, some of the members decided to join us.

A lot of rogues came to us too.

Over the four years we've managed to get our pack total up to 90. Which is pretty darn big for a pack. And we got new recruits every month.

In these past four years, I had changed my state of mind completely, before I was innocent, the kind of girl that wears hello kitty pyjamas and tied her hair in pigtails.

Now I'm strong, confident, and i'm a warrior. We decided to name the pack Dark Skyver, it was a combination of the lands original name, along with my new name at Sky.

I was just about as excited about Sky about the rouge attack. I just learnt not to show my emotions on the outside. Emotions are a weakness.

We ran up north to where the rogues had been spotted, and quickly caught wind of their scents. It was only me and Sky coming to counter their attack. But it was enough.

Sky went forwards first to confront the wolves.

"Why, hello there!" He grinned, most of the 7 rogues looked irritated, but there was one who grinned back, he looked pretty young, but instantly I thought he should join my pack.

"Get the grinning kid." I mindlinked Sky.

"So anyone want to join or just attack? Only chance." He offered.

Immediately the young one piped up and came forward.

"Johnny!" One of them groaned irritated. Wow what a grumpy lot they are.

"We want to fight your alpha, we can definately take her on." They chuckled.

I stayed where I was, in the shadows.

"You sure about that?" Sky asked and they nodded vigorously.

He sighed, "Wow. . . I never thought rouges were so dumb."

They were about to speak when I tapped one of them on the shoulder, they didn't even notice me sneaking up behind them, hah!

He turned to see me and attempted to punch me but before he could I had my arm wrapped around his neck and was snapping it.

Soon the others shifted and turned around and were trying to get a good bite at me, but me and Sky were good, and we managed to take them down in a matter of minutes.

While we were fighting, I noticed a presence of about 5 packed wolves. Packed wolves never attacked in numbers that low, so I figured they were here to bring a message.

When we were done fighting, I brushed myself down and said, "You can speak you know."

Sky looked up, only now noticing their presence.

I smirked at him and looked up at the 5 wolves, who looked stunned that I had noticed them.

"I take it you've brought a message?" I asked. None of the wolves were alpha's, just a beta, it reminded me of the time we acquired this land.

The beta nodded. "We bring news of the new alpha down south."

That perked my interest. "Age?"

"20," they spoke.

I nodded. "That all?"

"As usual the alpha will presently be touring the packs to introduce himself, as you have neither an alliance or a history of attack he requests to come see you."

I nodded, "alright, now get off my land before I skin you alive."

They looked a little shocked at my harshness, frozen in place for a moment, so I whipped my knife out of my pocket and began to glaze it with my finger. They left pretty quick after that.

I laughed and turned to go back to the pack house.

The new alpha was 20. I was 20.

It was the age that Dustin would be, had he survived. The age he would have taken over the pack.

I wondered how different everything would be if he hadn't died. . .

Perhaps I would still be the sweet little girl I used to be. Or maybe I would have turned out the same way, it was always hiding inside of me, just waiting to be unleashed.

Would I have found my mate?

Although if I'm honest I can't imagine that I have a mate out there, I'm basically a demon, who would want to mate with me? Do I even want a mate?

I mean, it's not like I've never wanted one, when I was growing up it was all I wanted, I couldn't wait to turn 16 and find my mate. Except I never did. Besides, I don't think I want one anymore. Mate's are a weakness, and what if I ended up with some absolute twat?

No I couldn't handle that, I'd reject them on the spot. But would I really? Could I really do that to someone I'd spent 16 years waiting for?

Who knows. . .

And I sure as heck didn't want to find out.
