Xavier’s POV

Despite my confusion, I shut the door behind me confused and restless. Where did this girl come from and how the hell did she get into my bed?

Was she a call girl? Is that why she is being tied up like this? There were just so many questions running through my mind at that moment and I didn't know how to act on it.

The door suddenly clicked shut behind me, locking me in. What the actual fuck? I tried the door handle several times to get myself out before I hurt this woman but it didn't budge.

“Hey! Open us this door!” I yelled but there was no response at all. What were these people up to? “I swear I'm going to kill you all the minute I get out of here! Mark my words!” I threatened.

Yet it didn't scare them enough to let me out. I was frustrated and angry.

The room felt different now—heavy like something was about to happen. My wolf inside me was awake, restless. I could feel its power, pushing against my control. I needed to get out, but there was no way out.

I cursed under my breath. Damn you, Dane. He had tricked me. I could feel it, the strange heat running through my veins. Something was wrong with my body, and I knew it wasn’t just the drink. It had to be something Dane did. I needed to keep control, but it was slipping away.

I felt pathetic. I just came for an engagement party and now, I was going to kill someone?

The sweet smell of daisies drew my attention to the girl on the bed. She was still unconscious, tied up, but even from across the room, I could feel it. The pull. It was like a magnet, pulling me toward her.

My wolf wanted to get closer, but it wasn't to hurt her, which was very shocking. It wanted to claim her, to mark her, and that was even scarier than just killing him.

I tried to ignore it, tried to push the feeling away, but it was hard. Too hard.

Why was I feeling like this? Did the goddess go ahead and give me another mate after everything that happened? But with each passing second, the pull became harder to resist. I couldn’t make sense of it. She was just a girl, tied up and helpless. But my wolf didn’t care. It wanted her. And he was ready to drive me insane to achieve that.

I took a step back, trying to create some distance. I needed to think. I couldn’t act on impulse, not now. I had to focus on getting out of here, figuring out what Dane had done to me.

But no matter how far I stepped away, the pull got stronger. It was like it was in my veins, deep in my bones. My wolf was demanding her, even though he clearly felt that we couldn't have her.

I walked to the other side of the room, my heart pounding in my chest. I had to stay calm. I had to resist. But it was getting harder.

Suddenly, the girl stirred. I froze. She was waking up.

Her eyes opened slowly, and she struggled against the cuffs to push the hair off her face, but she couldn't, so she threw her head backwards, and the hair was off her face.

My breath hitched. She was beautiful.

“What the hell is…” she was complaining when those big blue eyes landed on me. She gasped, her body jerking as she tried to move away, but the cuffs held her tight.

I was stunned for a brief second. She looked pale and frightened to death which meant she wasn't some call girl. I couldn't risk getting close to her, no matter how much I wanted to help her.

“You!” I called, hoping to distract her before she hurt herself.

“Please,” she said, her voice trembling. “Please just kill me.”

Her words hit me like a punch to the gut. I didn’t know who she was or why she was there, but I could feel the panic in her words. She was scared of me. She knew the rumours about me. And I could tell she thought I was going to hurt her.

“Calm down,” I said, my voice low and rough but I tried to keep it as soft as I could muster. I tried to reassure her. “I’m not going to hurt you.”

But she was shaking her head, eyes wide with fear. “Please. I know what you are. You're the dark king. You love to torture your victims to death so I beg of you, just kill me now, please. Don't punish me.”

Her words sent a sharp pain through my chest. As creative and amusing as the rumours were, I didn't find it funny. I didn’t want to hurt her. I didn’t want to be what she thought I was. But my wolf didn’t care. It was growling inside me, demanding that I take what it wanted.

I took a step closer, unable to stop myself. I was by her bedside in an instant and reached out, my fingers brushing her skin.

“Please…”

“Relax…” I mumbled, caressing her cheeks. She was so beautiful up close with stunning blue eyes, strawberry blond hair and plump cherry lips. I couldn’t remember the last time I'd seen someone so naturally beautiful. And that’s when it happened.

A bright light shot out of her eyes, so fast and so blinding I couldn’t react. The light was sharp, like a bolt of lightning, and it hit me in an instant.

I was thrown back across the room, slamming into the wall with enough force to knock the wind out of me. My head spun, my body aching from the impact. I pushed myself up, still stunned, my heart pounding in my chest.

What just happened? Did this woman just send me across the room without lifting a finger? How was that even possible?

Several thoughts ran through my mind as I struggled to pick myself up from the floor.

I looked at her again. She was still tied to the bed, her eyes wide and filled with fear, but there was something else. There was power there… something dangerous. Something I didn’t understand.

“What the hell?” I breathed, roughly. This had to be the first woman in history to defend herself against my wolf and succeed.

What was she? Why did she have this power?

Crystal’s POVThe clang of metal against stone echoed around the kitchen as pots and trays were passed from hand to hand. The air was thick with steam and the scent of roasted meat, herbs, and smoke. While shuttling around as I performed my duty, I kept my head low, pretending the rhythm of my work was enough to drown out the voices around me but it wasn’t.They were always whispering and sneering. The moment I was moved to the slave quarters, the news had spread faster than wildfire. The King’s pet had fallen from grace, and the staff wasted no time reminding me of it.“Careful with that tray, Luna,” one of the cooks drawled with fake sweetness, putting extra weight on the title. “You wouldn’t want to get your hands dirty.” Another added and that instant, laughter erupted in the room. I ignored them, wiping the sweat off my brow as I scrubbed a massive pot. My back was aching from hours of standing, but I didn’t stop. If there was one thing I had learned in this place, it was tha

Crystal’s POVThe moment I stepped into the slave quarters, the air changed. It was heavier here and thick with the smell of damp stone, and sweat. As I walked through the corridor, all eyes turned to me. I could feel their sharp, assessing and cruel stares even before I looked up. Thanks to a woman with gray hair that stopped me, I was going to keep walking as I didn't know where I was going. Her presence demanded respect or rather, obedience.“You must be the new slave I was informed of,” she said, her tone flat. It was clear she knew me before now but chose to feign ignorance. “Crystal,” I said, trying to sound calm. She didn’t act like I had spoken to her. Instead, her eyes moved from my face to my hands and then to my feet. It was as if she was inspecting a broken piece of furniture. “Crystal,” she repeated, tasting the name like it was bitter. “You’re the King’s… former favorite, I heard.”I didn’t answer but she didn't mind, she continued her welcome speech. “Names don’t

Crystal’s POVConfidence; I never thought I had that in me anymore. Not after all that had been happening in my life recently."You think you have a choice here?" One of the elders yelled, slamming his fist against the table. “If you must know, we are acting on that King’s order." He yelled again and for a flicker of a second, I felt the air leaving my lungs. Shaking my head in disbelief, I tried to speak but I was tongue tied. When I couldn't bear the humiliation anymore, I made a detour and soon I was grabbing the handle of the large oak doors. No one tried to stop me so I stormed out of the council hall fuming like a beast on rampage. My rage didn’t give me the luxury of caring about the stares that were burning into my back as I stormed away. My heart was pounding so loudly that it drowned out the world around me. My palms were cold, clammy and I didn’t even realize I was shaking until I reached the end of the hallway.Xavier ordered it; that was the only thing that kept repla

Crystal’s POVThe morning air was colder than usual. It pressed against my skin, seeping through the thin fabric of my dress as I stepped out into the corridor. The silence of the palace had become familiar but today, something felt different. The quiet wasn’t just silence, it was tension filled, like the world itself was holding its breath.“Xavier." I mumbled, looking over my shoulder to check if he was stalking me but he was nowhere to be found. “If you want to help me, stay away from me." This was his response and I swear, I felt it. If only I had the courage, I would have pressed further but the look in his eyes made my stomach twist. I was still thinking about what happened as I walked down the corridor. Biting my pinky finger, I turned a corner and nearly collided with someone.“Oh! I’m sorry…” I began, only to stop short when I looked up.She was stunning. I mean, the lady standing right in front of me was tall, poised and her beauty was out of the world. It was the kind

Reader’s POVThe fire crackled quietly in the hearth, throwing soft orange light across the study walls. Alpha Dane sat motionlessly behind his desk with his elbow resting on his knees. His eyes were lost somewhere between thought and regret. The scent of smoke hung in the air and even the familiar warmth that came from the hearth couldn’t pull him back from the storm raging in his head.“Come on, think of something else already." He groaned, grabbing his head with both hands as he gritted his teeth. This behavior has been a routine for the past month. He hadn’t been himself since that night he rejected her.Papers lay scattered on the desk in front of him and they were untouched. He had told everyone he was fine, that Crystal’s disappearance was no concern of his but that was a lie. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw her face the moment he said the words that broke the bond. The disbelief and the pain in her eyes had left an indelible mark in his head that was refusing to fade

Xavier’s POVAfter the meeting with the elders concerning the rogues parading the turf, I had been pacing the corridor outside my study. It was then I caught her scent. It carried a trace of fear, and something else I couldn’t name.Even when I tried to keep my distance, my wolf tracked her like she was the only thing that existed in this cursed fortress. I told myself I was just making sure she wasn’t sneaking off again, that I was simply being cautious but when I saw her shadow slip through the corridor and was heading straight for the library, I knew that wasn’t true.Curious as to what she was up to, I followed her.The way she kept glancing over her shoulder told me she knew she was breaking a rule. When I reached the door of the library, I stayed back just long enough to hear the faint sound of pages turning. The sound made something sharp twist inside me as I wondered what she was so curious about that she had to sneak into the library at night. Without warning, I pushed th
