Kael

I ignored the way his eyes melt with sadness like he expects me to take pity on him or something. Did he really expect I would stoop so low as to satisfy him when that was the only purpose he had in this pack? To satisfy my needs?

I waited till the door closed before I slammed my fist against the wall, the pain raking my entire fist. I used to take pride in the fact that I could control myself and the feelings that wanted to take control over me, but this time, this felt different. It felt like something was eating me from the inside and begging for release.

And when we kissed, I felt strangely com- fuck, no! There was no way that good for nothing Alpha who caused the death of my sister would stir such feelings within me. This had to be some cruel joke or some twisted plot shit by the goddess. I was very sure that she was cackling at a card well shuffled and played among us.

We needed to get rid of him, I couldn’t afford to keep him around, but that was impossible. Getting rid of him would only lead to my death, a curse that no magic could ever cure. And rejection? I couldn’t afford to be weak when there were rumors of pack wars going around, there were subtle threats lurking and I had to be prepared.

I could just use him to satisfy my sexual urges, like a sex slave. That would be more humiliating to him, it would worsen his punishment, knowing that his entire life had been condemned to bending over for me. The thought of the shame that would mask him fills my entire heart with satisfaction, drawing a soft smirk across my face.

I quickly moved into the shower to get cleaned, feeling like there was no way I was going to meet my father when I smelled like the saliva of his daughter’s murderer. I walked out in no time and made my way down the hall till I stood outside his room, steadying my breaths before knocking gently.

I pushed the door open and the strong scent of herbs hit my nose. There was a nurse in the room, stroking his feet gently with some ointment.

“Alpha,” she bowed as I walked into the room. I stared at the once agile man now confined to the bed by this ailment. His body was frail and pale, like white chalk and wilted flower. His skin sagged like rags hung outside to dry and his eyes were covered in milky film.

“Kael,” he muttered in his croaky voice due to the infection that had spread to his throat.

“You’re not meant to be talking,” I moved toward his bed and held his hand, cradling it gently.

“Whe…” he swallowed slowly, “Avie,” he added.

Aveline, he was looking for Aveline. He had lapses in his memory and he was stuck in some part of his head when she was unmarried and still lived with him. My heart drooped in sadness because of what happened to her. There was no way I was going to break the news to him.

How would I tell him that his only daughter is gone? It would kill him instantly and I wasn’t ready for him to leave me behind, he was the only family I had left.

“She’s fine,” I smiled back and he relaxed into the pillow, staring back at the ceiling like he could see any of it.

“Take good care of him, okay?” I said to the nurse as I patted his hand once more and left the room, the weight of everything seems to fall to me. Taking up the pack and being ruthless while at it in order to get their respect.

I exit the room and walked down the hall, my mind wandering toward Darius. What would he be doing at this point? Would he be asleep?

I shook my head, trying to rid myself of those plagues that wanted to consume. I brush by another guard and the question tears through my throat before I can help it, “where is Darius?”

To him, it may not be weird because he is my servant after all and I should know the location of these ones.

“Sir, I remain him entering the servant’s quarters.”

I knew that was where he would be but I didn’t like the fact that he was far away from me. Not because I had any sort of feelings for him, I needed him closer in case I was aggravated and I needed something to release my anger.

But he had to suffer, he needed to know that this was not going to be comfortable. I nodded and eased my way back into my room, scanning the picture frames on the wall when my eyes latched on to my mother.

The bitter screams tore through my consciousness and I could swear it was like the voice was behind me. I shut my eyes, clenching my fist and trying to drown those thoughts that have burned.

Seeing her beg for mercy and all I could was stand behind her and watch because I was too small to understand the phase of life. I could see her stretching her arm, toward me like she wanted me to help. I stretched but they shoved me like I was nothing. They made me watch as they took turns with my mother till they eventually slit her throat.

I should be burning with rage for my father, but for some reason it just felt like it was a waste of time because I would be a waste on children.

I had barely settled on the couch when the rapid knocks against my door. The audacity to do that?

“Who the fuck is it?” I command and the nurse pushes the door, panting and trying to catch her breath. My eyes widen at her antics, her hand over the chest, heaving to regain composure.

“Alpha, it’s…it’s your father,” she says and my heart drops to the pit of my stomach, my head filling with extreme thoughts already.

“Your Father is dead.”

Darius“Do you know his name?” I asked even when all the pieces of evidence pointed to one person. I just wanted to be sure and fully grounded in the fact that Luca had other plans when he decided he decided he was coming back here. For one, I already knew he was back because of her, but why would he kidnap her if he was the one?“It is impossible to forget the name. After they had drugged me one night, the effects wore off faster than usual and I came around to hear the threads of their conversations. One of the men had called him by his name, Luca, he said.”That was the final nail in the coffin of doubt and every tiny ounce of trust I had that Luca may have come for some other purpose was shoved into the earth. There was a lot happening here and it still didn’t make sense how he was able to trace her down here if she said that she used scent blockers.“I know him,” I said. She froze and turned toward me, her eyes falling into squints, “how do you know him?” she asked. I swallowed,

AvelineI stared at the vast expanse of land that was before me, the wind shuffled wildly behind me, whipping my hair in every direction. I didn’t remember where my veil was and frankly, I didn’t even care about it. I stared at the jagged rocks that stretched below. The sun had dipped far beyond the horizon and darkness had wrapped the earth in its arms. It added to how scary the cliff looked. There was a barricade or a fence that was jammed into the earth to prevent anyone from walking too far off the cliff. But maybe the person who made the fence sensed that a time like this would come when I had to make a decision that would be too tough for me to swallow. I stared at it again and as far as the rocks stretched, I couldn’t even see the base. All I saw were the pointed edges from the side. My heart pounded furiously in my chest as my eyes ached with renewed sadness. There were no tears left at all to cry and my lids had become swollen because of it.I had blocked off all communicatio

AvelineMy heart pounded in my chest as I stared at my reflection in the mirror. The way the light got the light fabric of the veil that was shoved into my hair that was tucked into a perfect bun. My stomach cramped with fear as the realization of what was going to happen dawned on me. I was getting married and the fact that it was someone I actually admired made my heart burn harder.“Are you sure this looks good?” I asked Laura who rolled her eyes for the third time.“I've told you for the hundredth time, Aveline, you look flawless. I don't even know why you put this much effort considering the guy doesn't do much,” she said and I winced, “Laura.” I called and she raised her hand in mock surrender.“I'm sorry, but it's the truth, Aveline,” she said. I turned toward the mirror and I hated the sinking fact that gnawed at the back of my mind that she was right. Darius didn't even show even the least bit of interest in me, every time we were together, it always seemed like he was in suc

DariusI stood, frozen with confusion as I stared at the face of the person I was betrothed to. My fiancée who had thrown herself off the cliff and was said to be dead. Dead people didn’t kidnap you from the hallway or intercede on your behalf. Dead people didn’t stand in front of you with a cloak looking healthy. My brain riddled with confusion as I tried to make sense of everything that was happening. Where has she been for the years? How did she even find me?“What the hell, Aveline? How the fuck are you still alive?” I ask, totally confused.“I know you have a lot of questions but we have to leave here, time is running out and we don’t want them to find us here.” I didn’t even know where she was taking me to, I had so many questions to ask, I had so many things I needed to know and I could sense that she knew it as well. we walked down the hall in silence, our shoes crunching on the gravel. It smelled damp here, like it hadn’t been used in a long time. She turned left and then wal

DariusThe doors slammed shut behind me but I couldn't register anything that was happening because it felt like I was stuck. Stuck in the fact that Kael was done with me, stuck with the fact that this washing trying to get rid of me. He had cooked up this elaborate plot with Elena.I couldn't help the fact that one question rode circles in my mind. Why? Why go through all of this? Why the theatrics? If he didn't want me, he could have just said it. He could have stood in that office, looked me in the eye, and rejected me and then he could have banished me out of the pack. But all of this? I never expected him to go this far. "Move," the guard behind me grunted, jabbing a baton into my ribs. We turned a corner into the main hallway. No one was listening to me, no one wanted to see that this was all some gang up to push me as the bad person. As we made another turn, a figure stepped out of the shadows…my entire spirit dampened as I locked eyes with her: Elena. She stood there, arms cr

Darius“You seem confused, Darius,” Councillor Jameson said, “Let me make this very clear for you.” He stepped down from the raised platform, walking slowly toward me. The other four council members watched, their eyes narrowing."Alpha Kael called this meeting, he said it was an emergency. He told us everything.""He told you lies!" I shouted, struggling against the grip of the guards. "He attacked me!""Silence!" He barked, "You will listen to the charges."He stopped pacing and looked down at me with disgust. "The Alpha has just returned from the North.”I nodded, "I know that! I went to see him because I was happy he was back!""You went to see him unannounced and you burst into his room without an appointment."What? I was so confused. He had sent for me, so why was he making it seem like I had gone there on my own."Because I... I thought..." I stammered."And when you entered," he continued, raising his voice again, "and then you produced a silver blade."What? My eyes widened
