Silas's POV

"Repeat what you just said right now, Ivan!" I roared, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt.

"Veronica went missing at the hotel, sir," Ivan repeated, his voice shaking. "She disappeared when I was trying to get you into the car."

I could not believe my own ears. A white-hot rage washed over my entire body, making my blood boil instantly. I felt like destroying everything around me. I wanted to smash a car window or tear down a building with my bare hands.

"What did I tell you ab

Veronica's POV"The deal is completely off, Veronica." Silas said, his voice flat and brutally final."Silas, wait!" I took a fast step forward, my hand reaching out to grab his sleeve. "You cannot just walk out like this. Listen to me!"Before I could touch him, he stepped into the hallway and pulled the heavy door shut between us. The sharp electronic beep of the door lock engaging echoed in the quiet room.My mouth remained open, but no words came out. The harsh sound felt like a physical blow to my chest. My legs gave out instantly, unable to support my weight, and I slid down the smooth wooden frame until I landed hard on the floor. I sat there in the dark, my breath catching in my throat while the silence of the apartment wrapped tightly around me. How could he just throw everything away after how far we had come? He was letting his pride completely blind him, leaving me to navigate this dangerous ocean all by myself. One week later.I stood outside the glass doors of the VIP lo

Veronica's POV"Get out of my way." Silas growled. His voice was incredibly low but it echoed loudly in the silent room."No." I pushed my hands flat against his hard chest. "You are not walking out of here until you let me explain everything to you.""Explain exactly what?" He took a challenging step forward. His body pressed firmly against my palms. "I heard exactly enough. Save your breath."The cold look in his dark eyes completely crushed me. The usual fiery passion in them was completely gone. He just looked deeply defeated and it broke my heart into scattered pieces. I gripped the fabric of his shirt tightly."You did not hear the full story." I pleaded with him. "Silas, please just listen to me for one minute.""I said move." He grabbed both of my wrists. His sudden touch sent a hot electric spark rushing up my arms. Even when he was completely furious with me, the intense chemistry between us was undeniable. His grip was tight but he made sure he did not hurt me. He just trie

Silas POV"If anything happens to her, I swear I will put a bullet through your skull."I stared down at Veronica's motionless body on the marble floor, my blood turning to ice. My chest tightened into a hard, suffocating knot. Seeing her lying there white as paper made my pulse take a sudden halt. I stepped forward, instincts screaming at me to scoop her up and get her away from these monsters, but I stopped myself at the last possible second. If I touched her now, I would blow my cover and ruin everything we had planned.Julian dropped to his knees beside her, his hands hovering frantically over her shoulders. He looked up at me with sheer murder in his eyes, his voice cracking with panic."Get out!" Julian roared, scooping Veronica into his arms. "Get out of my house before I tear you apart!"I didn't say a word. I turned around on my heel and walked out of the grand estate, my jaw clenched so hard my teeth ached. The cold night air hit my face, but it did nothing to cool the fire

Veronica's POV"Mother, do not bring up that name in this house ever again," Julian warned, stepping briskly into the grand foyer."I am only stating what my eyes can clearly see, Julian," Delilah replied, rolling her eyes in deep disgust. "That woman manipulated you for years before you finally came back to your senses. And looking at this girl, she is clearly trying to do the exact same thing to you right now."I stood perfectly still, letting out a quiet breath. Relief washed over me like a cold wave. She had not caught the actual similarities or recognized my true identity; she was just accusing me of being another gold-digger manipulating her precious son.I squared my shoulders, lifted my chin high, and decided to act with total class and haughty arrogance."Did you make me come all the way here just to be compared to a woman who probably could not even tie her own shoelaces?" I asked loudly, glaring right into Delilah's cold eyes. "And what the hell do you mean by all the nonse

Veronica's POV"I will agree to your terms, Julian," I said, gripping the phone tightly against my ear."I knew you would see reason," Julian replied smoothly. His arrogant tone instantly annoyed me. "Securing this investment is the most important thing right now. We cannot afford any mistakes.""I am not making mistakes," I fired back. "You are the one who needs my help to convince those women. Do not act like you are doing me a favor.""Lower your voice, Veronica," Julian commanded coldly. "You might have those country club wives fooled, but my mother is a completely different story. Delilah does not tolerate games.""I am not playing a game," I lied. "I just want this finalized.""Then you will meet her tomorrow," Julian instructed. "I will send a car for you first thing in the morning. Be ready.""What exactly am I supposed to expect from her?" I asked."Expect her to judge every single thing you do," Julian warned. "Do not wear red. My mother absolutely hates red. Wear something

Veronica's POV"You are pushing things way too fast." Julian paced across the expensive rug in my living room."Am I?" I asked loudly. "Or am I just not worth being your wife?""I did not say that," Julian fired back. He stopped pacing and rubbed the back of his neck. His drama made him incredibly antsy. I could see exactly how much he was trying to change my opinion about the whole situation. "You know my previous marriage is still fresh. It just ended recently.""And so what?" I scoffed, crossing my arms over my chest. "You told me yourself that woman was an absolute bitch. You said she almost ruined your entire life.""She did," Julian agreed quickly."You said awful things about that marriage," I pressed further. I took a step closer to him, keeping my gaze locked directly onto his dark eyes. "You made it sound like a complete prison. Why would you care if it is over?""It was a prison," Julian stated firmly. "But in the eyes of society, rushing into a new marriage looks terrible.
