Hidden agendas

Catherine entered her bedroom and found her husband in the midst of dressing up.

“Everything is ready; everyone is downstairs,” she informed, standing behind him with a faint smile on her lips.

Arthur turned around, offering a smile. “I’m so proud of you, Catherine. You always manage to make everything perfect.”

Catherine returned the smile. “Thank you… it’s my duty as your mate and mother to our daughter to ensure perfection tonight.”

As she turned to leave, she added, “I’ll go make sure the food and drinks are ready to be served. I am sure our arriving guests would be longing to greet us.”

Arthur nodded approvingly. “That’s very good. What about Yvonne?” He asked looking concerned.

Catherine hesitated, sounding a little nervous. “Well… she’s getting ready,” she answered, still facing away from him.

From her tone, Arthur suspected that something was wrong. He walked around and stood in front of her, peering at her face. “What’s going on?”
