Grayson.

“Don’t worry about what happened last week, I’ve taken care of it, it didn’t make its way to the media!” I said to her, she nodded in reply, I slowly let go of her hands and stepped away. I watched her turn around and walk away, I stood staring at her retreating figure until she was no longer in sight.

My phone beeped with a message, I gently reached for for inner pocket and took it out, it was a message from Elena,

-Miss May did not have anything to eat before leaving- the text read, I slowly looked up from my phone and glanced back up at the route she had just taken.

“What do I do with this girl,” I murmured as I gently tucked my phone in my pocket,

“What are you doing standing here alone?!” I heard a very familiar voice say behind me, I turned to see Cole and Becky behind me.

All three of us are close friends from the university and to the outside world apparently. Cole and I co-own Nash and Ko. Ko from his name Cole but replacing the letter C with K just because. Cole also assisted me with our family business, Nash Tech.

While Becky worked as head of the Finance department, we literally did everything together and were always together until Becky and Cole decided that they were in love and wanted to get married to each other. They've been married three years now.

“Are you okay?!” Becky asked as she stepped closer to me looking up at me, well they both were at my wedding two days ago, and they witnessed everything that had happened.

They both knew of my plans beforehand, which is why they made sure there was no coverage of any sort and it was a very intimate wedding with only family and very close friends in attendance, of course none of the Tanner family would want to disgrace themselves, so what happened at the wedding stayed at the wedding.

I flashed Becky a smile and nodded slowly, I had been fine way before the wedding day, I had accepted my lot and moved forward.

“By the way, Maybelline?! You didn’t tell us you’d do that, that was quite dicey, she was married to your fiancé’s younger brother already!” Cole asked, I turned to look at him and slowly tucked my hands in my pocket.

“Yeah, I had my reasons,” I replied as all three of us began to make our way towards the elevator. We clicked on the floor we wanted, the doors dinged and slowly slid open, May was standing in it with a group of four other interning Anchors. Immediately they saw us. They all bowed respectfully before walking away.

“Jeez! Please tell me that was just a coincidence,” Becky asked as we walked into the elevator, I slowly tucked my hands into my pocket and my lips stretched into a small smile.

“Maybe,”

“Ouuuu, you’re a bad boy!”

“Tyler Graham already renewed the contract, we will be in charge of all his interviews for the next three years,” Katrina said to me as she gently dropped the signed document on my table, I picked it up, opened it and looked through it.

“Good job!”

“So who do you think is best for the anchor position?!” I asked.

“Maybelline, she was the best candidate at the interview” she replied, I raised my brows and gently dropped the file on my table.

“You’re recommending her for the job, I thought you didn’t like her?!” I asked she rolled her eyes to the back of her head as she shifted the weight of her body to one leg,

“Who says?!”

“Well I don’t know, you were going to fire her,”

“It wasn’t from any hard feelings, it was unethical and unprofessional of her to come this late on her first day, it’s an important criteria for interning Anchors,” she said, I raised the corner of my lips and nodded slowly at her words.

“Besides, she lives with you and would likely get married to you on contract, how can I hate her?!” She added and I couldn’t help but chuckle.

If there’s one thing I know about Katrina, it’s her ability to make decisions without any sentiments or any emotional attachment, truly if I hadn’t intervened, she might have fired May.

Katrina was actually my childhood friend, our parents were also close friends, we lived and grew up together in the same neighborhood. Her parents weren’t as well to do as mine, but they were comfortable. She was literally my best friend as a child, a teenager and even a young adult. While we were just fresh out of high school, we dated for a year but it didn’t work out. We realized we were better off as friends, our breakup and admission into the university drove us apart for a while, it was during this gap I met Cole and Becky.

After about two years, Katrina and I moved on from whatever happened between us in the past and got on with our friendship and then she became my assistant after she graduated from the university. She was familiar with Cole and Becky also, we had outings together sometimes but she was closer to me than to them.

“Good, good! You can let her know about this,” I finally responded to her.

“Also, find a place to sort the other interns, before you know it six months internship is over, let them start working as soon as possible,” I added.

“Sure thing,”

“I should get going now, thanks to you dumping all your work on me I have a lot to do!” She said pointing towards the door.

“Yeah but in my defense I pay you handsomely for it” I responded, she muffled a laugh as she turned around and began to walk out of my office.

“Ohh wow, Hi Mom” I heard Katrina greet immediately when she got to the door. I just knew immediately it was my mother, I also called her parents mom and Dad before they passed on. And now she is literally the daughter my mother never had.

Katrina had not fully stepped out of my office, so I saw her step forward and wrap her hands around my mom in a hug.

“I hope you enjoyed your trip,” she asked as they disengaged from the hug.

“Ohh, I definitely did and I got every one of your messages, unlike some other people who chose to not check up on their mother,” She responded and Katrina bursted out laughing.

“Grayson was quite busy, don’t be too hard on him,” she replied, mother responded to her in a whisper and I didn’t quite catch it.

“Hey, be nice!” Katrina whispered to me before she excused herself and walked away. Mom cleared her throat and walked into my office slamming the door shut behind her.

“Welcome,” I simply said to her as she walked up to my table, pulled out a chair and made herself comfortable.

“I heard all about what happened last Saturday,” she replied sharply, I slowly looked up from my laptop and locked gazes with her,

“You did?” I responded with raised brows, of course she must have, she had always wanted me to get married to Nelly, because of some alliance with the Tanners, of course they definitely would have told her about it.

“That’s good,” I added my gaze still intensely on her,

“That’s good?! What do you mean that’s good?! Why did you choose to embarrass our family like that?! You do know how long it took to make this work, how can you mess it up like this!”

“Is this why you came to my office?!” I asked with furrowed brows as I fully let go of my laptop and leaned in my chair.

“Isn’t that enough reason to come?? I want to know why you made us go through the hassle of planning a wedding and calling it off right before you take your vow!” She yelled.

“Well I was bored, I needed some fun!” I replied with a small nonchalant shrug.

“You were bored?? Or you were sleeping with someone young enough to be your younger sister?! Your fiancé's Younger brother’s wife?! How old is she?! Twenty two?! Twenty three?! How much Lower can you stoop?!” She growled, I chuckled lightly throwing my head backwards before slowly turning back to her.

“What was I expecting? You don’t even know me!”

“Well the ten year age gap makes it more fun,” I added with a small smirk, she shook her head slowly as she pushed her chair backwards and got up to her feet.

“You didn’t plan to attend the wedding in the first place, what does it matter to you?!” I added cutting her off from whatever she had to say, she kissed her teeth with a scowl on her face.

“You disappoint me! Every Damn time!” She uttered quite audibly and with that she turned around and stormed out.

My hands balled into a tight fist, as I stared at the door she just walked out of, some things never just change.

Maybelline.Next Day.Wednesday 8:00am.“Sweetheart,”“My love,” I heard Grayson whisper to me, I slowly lowered the duvet over my head, he was standing by my bedside with a tray of pancakes, eggs and coffee. “You didn’t have to,” I muttered with a small yawn, as I stretched and slowly sat up on the bed. He flashed me a small smile as he gently set the tray on the bed.“I wanted to,” he whispered, he squatted beside me and pressed a soft kiss on my forehead. “Do you feel better?!” He asked, I exhaled deeply and nodded slowly.“I do,” “Sure?!”“Yeah. Just a little sad about my job but yeah, I’m better,”“We can always start over once this blows over,” he said to me, I took my lips into my mouth and nodded optimistically.“Yeah, I know,” I whispered. “I got your mail just yesterday. I realized you’ve sent it days ago. I’m so proud of you,” he said to me, my shoulders slumped with a small sigh immediately he mentioned it.“About that, do you think I should just hold off on it?! Next day. Tuesday.Maybelline. 10:30am.“How many packs Ma’am?!”“One, one pack” I muttered back in reply to the attendant at a restaurant just close the the hospital. Betsy was still asleep and I wanted to get her something to eat. The doctor says that she might be worse than she’s letting on. I remember telling her to take it easy and rest, I have no idea why she didn’t, now I’m super worried and super scared. “Isn’t that the host from love and laughter” “The Lady sleeping around with three men if not more?!” I heard whispers around me, before I knew it, two ladies walked up to me. “Ohh my God, she’s the one” one of them muttered as she raised her hands to my head and removed the scarf I used as disguise.“If I were you, I would never show myself in public again. Have you no decency?!”“How many marriages have you ruined. How do you feel being an home wrecker,” I spluttered at the attempt to speak and the hallway bursted out in taunting laughter.“I wonder why Grayson Nash is ye

10:00pm.GraysonI exhaled deeply, turned off the bright light in the hallway as I stepped into the dimly lit room. I heard soft, tearful sniffles that stopped me in my tracks. Ofcourse she was just trying to be strong earlier. This is her dream and I know how much it meant to me. My gaze landed on Maybelline, wrapped tightly in the duvet, curled up as if she were trying to shield herself from the outside world.I moved closer, taking a seat beside her on the edge of the bed. “Baby,” I whispered, reaching out gently. I slowly peeled the duvet away, revealing her tear-streaked face. Her eyes, red and puffy, met mine for a brief second before she looked away, blinking back fresh tears.I brushed a stray strand of hair from her cheek, my thumb lingering against her skin, wishing I could absorb all the pain she was feeling. “Please don’t cry,” I murmured, my voice barely audible. “Talk to me.”She swallowed hard, her eyes fixated on the ceiling as if searching for words that would mak

Later that Evening 7:30 PMGraysonAs I opened the door, I let out a sigh. It was Becky, Cole and Katrina."You guys didn’t have to come," I said to them. Earlier today, they insisted on handling things so I could stay with May. The situation today hadn’t been good PR for any of us."Of course we did," Becky replied as she stepped inside with the others. "We wanted to check on you and Maybelline. How’s she doing?""She’s asleep now," I said, shutting the door behind them. "Tyler came over with his daughter earlier, and I think that helped her feel a bit better.""Thank God," they murmured, settling into the living room. They sank into the sofa, a mix of concern and exhaustion on their faces."So, how did the meetings go?" I asked, easing into a chair. Cole exhaled. "Well, on my own end, we managed to reassure the owners of the Hilton account. They’re staying, as are our other major accounts. As long as Nash Tech is not affected, they are good,” I closed my eyes, releasing a deep

I was going to tell you all about it , I promise--I know you’ve been completely honest with me and I haven’t quite reciprocated that. But please I want you do know that it doesn’t in anyway define the relationship that you and I have--I Cherish and care about our relationship, Betsy please pick my calls. I need to talk to you-I texted Betsy for the umpteenth time. Grayson had his driver drop me at home and I was almost going crazy from the lack of what to do. I kept calling and texting Betsy but she wasn’t replying to any of my text or calls. I exhaled deeply and dropped the phone on the dinning table. I buried my head in my palm and ruffled my hair frustratingly.“Argghhh!” I growled, I have cried and cried and I doubt there were any more tears in my eyes. I picked up my phone and scrolled through the posts again. When exactly does my life get better?! When I think I’ve got it a

Monday 8:30 am.“She’s the one,”“This is the first time I’m actually seeing her at the office”“Yeah, she looks so innocent behind would have known,”The moment I stepped into the office building, I sensed something was off. Conversations died down, replaced by hushed murmurs and sidelong glances. I brushed it off, it was probably just in my head, but as I walked further, the stares intensified, growing more obvious, more uncomfortable.I fumbled in my bag, pulled out my employee card, signed in, and headed toward the elevator. When the doors slid open, I stepped in—and everyone else instinctively shifted away, pressing against the walls. The silence was unsettling, and I could feel each and everyone of their gazes on me. When the elevator finally reached my floor, I stepped out, heart racing. What’s going on?I pushed open the door to my office. Betsy was already at her desk, I could not see her face but her posture looked stiff, her eyes darting up to meet min
