Coco and Fiona both raised their glasses to toast Felix. When it came to Miranda’s turn, however, she sat calmly in her seat, showing no intention of joining in.

An awkward silence fell, broken only when Felix lifted his glass toward her. “Then let me toast Miss Stone instead.”

“Sorry, I do not drink,” Miranda said, rejecting him without hesitation.

Felix did not look offended. Instead, he gave a quiet laugh. “Then have some tea.”

Just then, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen, answered, and his expression changed. “She fell and was taken to the hospital? Which hospital?”

Miranda’s head shot up at once. Felix rose quickly from his seat, his voice tense. “My grandmother has been hospitalized. I have to go.”

Everyone stood to see him off. As he passed Miranda’s chair, the back of his hand brushed lightly against her shoulder, as if by accident.

Miranda picked up her bag and stood. “I have something to take care of as well. I will be leaving.”
