Chapter 2

Author: Pantaloon
“No thanks. Someone else already paid for the photos.”

I politely declined his offer. After all, letting another man pay for wedding photos would not be right.

Matthew knew he was in the wrong, so he did not get mad.

Instead, he grabbed my hand and pulled me outside.

“Alright then. Since it’s your birthday, I’ll plan a big surprise for you.”

I really did not want to go.

After running around all day, I just wanted to sleep.

But Matthew held my wrist tightly and would not let go.

After leaving the condominium, he took me to a fancy restaurant.

I did not go to those places often.

They made me feel uncomfortable, and the food portions were way too small for me.

When we got to the private room, I saw a bunch of familiar faces.

Matthew’s usual group of friends. They were the same ones who had made fun of me earlier.

Some of them, the ones who lost their bets, started complaining when they saw me.

“Wrenna, how can you be this dumb? He’s tricked you so many times already, and you still fall for it every time? You’re hopeless!”

I did not react. I already knew they did not like me.

Mostly because I was in the way of Matthew and his childhood crush.

The only woman in the group spoke up for me.

“Don’t be mean. It just means Wrenna is a bit naive. She trusts people too easily.”

Krystal Johnson walked up to me with a smile and held my hand. She comforted me and handed me a red gift box.

“Wrenna, I heard it’s your birthday today. This is a gift for you.”

I took the box without thinking. I did not know how bad it was going to be.

Krystal opened the box while it was still in my hands, and white powder sprayed all over my face.

Everyone around us started laughing like crazy.

“That’s not being naive. That’s just being dumb!”

“This is hilarious. She really thinks she can hang out with us with a brain like that?”

I closed my eyes and wiped the flour off my face. I was angry and ready to speak up, but Matthew spoke first.

“Okay, that’s enough. It’s Wrenna’s birthday. Don’t cross the line.”

He tried to pull me into a chair.

I looked at him coldly.

“Do you think just saying that is enough? After something like this?”

He raised his eyebrows like it was no big deal.

“What do you want me to do? It was just a prank. It’s not that serious.”

At that moment, I realized that when a person was too angry to speak, they just ended up laughing instead.

“Matthew, after all these years, did you ever treat me like your girlfriend?

“How could you just stand there and let them treat me like this?”

This was the first time in seven years I stood up to him in front of everyone.

And just like I thought, his expression instantly darkened.

“Then what do you want?”

I pointed at Krystal, who pulled the prank.

“I want her to say sorry!”

Krystal quickly made a pitiful face.

“Wrenna, if you really can’t take a joke, then fine. I’ll apologize. Just don’t fight with Matthew over this.”

“You don’t have to apologize. I want to see what else she can do,” said Matthew with a mocking smile.

He looked at me disdainfully.

“Wrenna, you’re really getting bold. How dare you talk back to me like this in front of everyone?

“If you can’t handle a joke, then don’t play along. We can just break up.”

I shook my head and laughed.

Matthew probably still thought I would never leave him.

Every time I did something that upset him, he would just threaten to break up like it meant nothing.

“Fine. That’s exactly what I want. We’re done, Matthew!”

On the stage, Marco took the microphone and said, “I’ve always been aware of certain matters. My wife is kind and chooses not to hold grudges, but that doesn’t mean I’ll let people get away with hurting her.”Some people in the audience started to look nervous and scared. I could not help but chuckle.“Alright, today is our wedding day. Let’s not waste time over this.”The rest of the ceremony went smoothly.Later, when toasting Marco’s parents, his mom held my hand warmly. Her eyes were full of tears as she said, “I can’t believe Marco actually found you again after all these years. He’s really lucky.”I looked at him in surprise. As I glanced at Marco, his face slowly reminded me of the little boy I once knew.I smiled playfully at him and joked, “So you were already planning to marry me when we were just kids?”Marco’s face turned a little red.“If your family hadn’t moved away, and I hadn’t lost contact with you, I would’ve made sure you never had to go through all that

The next morning, I opened my door, and someone fell at my feet.Matthew had been outside all night and was shivering from the cold. Half-awake, he looked up at me and said, “Wrenna, why did you take so long to open the door? I’m freezing out here.”I could not believe it. I never thought he would actually stay outside all night.Normally, he would just get mad and leave.I frowned with resignation.“Can you please stay away from me? It’s over. We’re not together anymore.”Matthew smiled confidently. But since he was outside all night, his smile was a little stiff due to the cold.“We might have broken up, but I know we’ll get back together. I believe I can win you back.”I chuckled and said sarcastically, “So you want to be my simp now?”His face changed. He looked embarrassed and awkward.“I bet your friends would love to see you like this. How about I call them over to watch it?“And also Krystal. She loves to mess with me. Would you like to try it?”Matthew’s eyes went

As soon as I got into Marco’s car, I could tell he was upset. His face was serious, and he kept tapping the steering wheel with his fingers.I gave a small, awkward laugh. I knew exactly why he was mad.I carefully reached out and tapped his shoulder.“Marco, are you mad?”He did not answer, and his eyes still looked cold.So I tapped his shoulder again, a little harder, and gave him a small smile. Finally, he looked a little less angry. He pulled the car over, leaned over to me, and asked, “Why didn’t you let me help you back there?”I instinctively leaned back against the car door and sat with my knees up.“Because… I caused this. I wanted to deal with it myself. I didn’t want to drag you into it.”Marco let out a short laugh. It sounded like he was experiencing a mixture of amusement and annoyance. He reached over and gently pinched my cheek.“Deal with it yourself? That means you still don’t see me as your husband, do you?”I pressed my lips together and stayed quiet.

Luckily, the hotel manager showed up just in time, so nothing worse happened. In the end, everyone just let it go like nothing happened. Krystal looked at me with disdain.“Wrenna, you were lucky this time. But you won’t always be this lucky.“Why don’t you just apologize to Matthew? If he stays mad, it won’t be good for you either.”The others around us agreed quickly.“Yeah, it’s your fault he’s angry. It’s up to you to fix it.”Matthew looked proud and said, “Since everyone’s sticking up for you, I’ll give you one more chance to make me happy. But next time, don’t expect it to be this easy.”His fake, annoying tone made me feel sick.I knew if I did not make it clear to them, they would not leave me alone.I looked up and shook my head to stop Marco from stepping in to defend me.After being with Matthew for seven years, I wanted to end things in my own way.In front of everyone, I blocked Matthew’s number and deleted him from all my social media.I also removed all the

Matthew’s sudden yelling shocked me.His eyes were wide and bloodshot. If this had happened before, I would have immediately tried to explain, apologize, and do whatever it took to make him forgive me.But things had changed. He did not matter to me anymore.“Matthew, is this really how you see me?“But it doesn’t matter. We’re already broken up. If I have another man, what’s it to you?“You’re the one who didn’t want to marry me. I can’t just wait around forever.”Once I said this, I thought I had made myself clear. But then Matthew started laughing. He looked at the blazer I wore and seemed to come to an understanding.“I never expected this from you. You thought you could pressure me into marrying you with this?”I frowned. I did not understand what Matthew meant.“You’ve got some taste, trying to fool me with this brand.“But how could you afford such an expensive suit? You probably rented it, didn’t you?“Why do you have to act so desperate? I told you I would marry

Everyone in the room looked shocked as I grabbed my purse and walked out. Before I left the restaurant, I went to the restroom to clean the flour off my clothes. On my way out, I walked past the private room and heard people laughing inside.“Matthew, aren’t you afraid Wrenna would really break up with you? Why are you still here drinking?”Matthew replied like he did not care at all.“Come on, she’s so desperate. All I have to do is wave her over, and she’ll come back.“If you don’t believe me, just wait. When I go home later and say a few nice words, she’ll give in. Want to bet?”“Alright, let’s bet. I don’t think you’ll win this time!”“I’m not betting! I lose every time!”I kept a straight face, but inside, my heart was breaking. After seven years together, I realized I was nothing more than a tool for bets between him and his friends.I ran out of the restaurant in a daze and accidentally bumped into someone. It was Marco Parker. He raised an eyebrow and asked, “What h

I never thought getting married would be this much trouble. After spending the whole day running around in a wedding dress, I was exhausted. When I got home, the lights were on.As soon as I opened the door, I heard Matthew Young’s annoyed voice.“Wrenna, why are you just getting home? Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for you?“I called you, but you didn’t pick up. All I did was joke around a little, and you’re seriously giving me the silent treatment?”I frowned and then remembered that Matthew had a key to the condominium.I had insisted on giving it to him when I first got it.I had bought the condominium during our first year together. At that time, I thought we would be getting married not long after, so I forced him to take the key.I told him this would be our home, and as one of the owners, he needed a key.I vaguely remembered that back then, Matthew just smiled with disdain and did not say anything, but he still took the key.Seven years later, looking back,
