The hours dragged out. Before I could as much contemplate what the fuck I was about to do once I saw her, Kai slowed the car to a crawl, parking in front of the so-called ‘safe house.’

“This the safe house?” We’re looking at a sumptuous three-story mansion seated in a three-hundred-square-meter landscape. Big spotlights perched on the well-manicured ground illuminated the white-painted walls. Large windows, drapes pulled to the side, allowing a peek at the interior. Men wearing bulky black jackets - a get-up to conceal their guns - lurked inside with earpieces in their ears. That was my only indication that we were in the right place.

Kai hummed a yes, unmoving from the driver’s side. He killed the engine minutes ago, waiting for me to make a move.

“Where did they find her?” I asked.

I didn’t have to say her name. “At Adelar’s mansion. Rain called us when we were talking to Alice.”
