Chapter 3
Three days laterAlex has been acting weird for the past few days that we have been here, and it's already disturbing me. I have tried to question him several times why he has been like that, but he always told me that he's fine. Not that I believe him anyway. It's a beautiful Wednesday morning, and we have scheduled to go to visit some places here and have fun till the day is over."I'm ready, babe. How do I look?" Turning to face Alex whose attention is all on his phone, he raises his gaze to look at me, and I bet that his face suddenly lits up excitedly. That feeling of having your man look at you and be all happy is everything."You look crazily beautiful, babe. Do you mind taking a picture of you?" He winks at me, and I roll my eyes."Not here, please. We'll take pictures all we want when we go out. For now, let's leave before we run late for it," I pick up my phone from the dresser and wear my sunglass before I stride out of the room with him trailing behind me."Where should we go first? Museum, amusement park, restaurant, cinema, beach, or...""Let's visit the museum first. We can do the rest later," I cut him off, and he nods his head.Hopping inside his black sports car, he drives out of the compound afterward. We're going to tour the city and have so much fun. I love it.Arriving at the museum later, we hop out of the car. He holds my hand and leads me into the building that's filled with many people that came to also have fun like us.Feeding my eyes with the amazing sculptures of humans, animals, and other historical weapons like swords, arrows, and the likes of them turns out to be so good."Do you like it?" He asks me as I touch the sculpture of a princess. She must be a beauty when she was alive. I mean, if the sculpture can be this beautiful, then her human-like would be so gorgeous."Yes, I love it. It's so beautiful. Take a picture of us, please," I give my phone to him and pose beside the sculpture, ready for a pic or more. He snaps us in a different poses, and I bet the pictures would be more than fifteen."That was great. I'm famished. Let's go to the restaurant," I say to him as we stride out of the museum about thirty minutes later."Alright. I know of a beautiful and classic restaurant. How about we try it out, huh?" He asks as he hops in the driver's seat of the car, while I hop in beside him."What are you still waiting for? I'm going to faint if you don't go there now," I whine, and he chuckles softly."I'll do that now, my lady," He bows his head as he smiles at me. He finally starts the car and drives out of the place, heading to the restaurant.Arriving at the classic restaurant a few minutes later, he pulls over at the parking lot, and we head to the entrance door afterward. The place turns out to be as he has praised it to be."We're going for your favorite, right?" He asks as soon as we take a seat amongst the numerous empty seats in the restaurant. Turns out that we're the only ones here. Where did everyone go?"Hmm," I nod my head, still looking around. While growing up, I have always loved pasta because it was what my mom always made for me. Talking about my mom, she passed away when I was just ten years old, and my dad passed away too a few months after I turned fifteen."Why are we the only ones here?" I finally ask him."I paid for the whole restaurant for the time we'll spend here. Nobody will come until we're done," My eyes almost pop out of their sockets. That's so much money."Why did you do that? That's so much money you have spent on it," I lament."Nothing. I just want to have some time with my wife alone. That's not something bad, right?" He smiles at me, and I blush hard. After the waiter serve us, we proceed to start eating. After spending an hour in the restaurant, we finally head to the entrance door, but Alex suddenly slumps to the ground and passes out."Alex... Alex... Are you OK? Alex... Somebody help, please," I try to wake him up, but his eyes are shut and his face suddenly becomes pale. My hands tremble fearfully as I cup his cheeks in my palms, my heart beating violently against my chest like it's trying to force itself out of me. I have never been this terrified all my life. The waiters rush over to me and help me carry him to the backseat of his car, and I drive him to the nearest hospital. The nurses took him to the ward as soon as we arrive at the hospital."You can't come inside, miss. You need to wait out here for the doctor," One of the nurses stop me from entering the ward. Pacing in the hallway minutes later, I keep praying silently that he's fine. I'm starting to get worried. He wasn't showing any symptoms of being sick this morning. I wouldn't have allowed him to go out if he had shown any symptoms. He was fine, so how did he suddenly pass out? After what seems like forever, the door suddenly opens, and the doctor walks out."How's he, doc? Is he awake? What happened to my husband?" I ask him nonstop."Calm down, miss. Let's talk in my office. This way, please," He says to me, before walking away. Glancing back at the closed door one more time, I finally follow him to his office. My heart keeps beating nervously as I take a seat across from the doctor, waiting impatiently for him to tell me what's wrong with Alex."Your husband... Did he tell you he has a brain tumor?" He asks out of the blue, and I freeze on the seat as his words echo in my head. For a few seconds, I stare back at him blankly, trying to understand what he just said to me. It can't be my husband. Not my Alex, please."Alex doesn't have a brain tumor, doc. That must be a review of someone else's health, not my husband," How I am so sure of my reply to him is crazy, but there's no way I'm going to believe him, right? I and Alex have been together for over a year before we got married weeks ago. There's no way he would've hidden it from me if he really has a brain tumor, right?"How sure are you, madam? The cancerous cells have spread all over his brain and he...""Just stop this, doctor. Stop!" I slam my hands on the desk as I spring up to my feet. His words are driving me to the edge of craziness."My husband doesn't have a brain tumor! No, he doesn't," I shake my head slowly. My eyes suddenly become wet with tears, and my cheeks feel hot as they pour down them. It's not that I believe him, but... but... I don't know what's going on. I don't know what I'm feeling right now...Chapter 14Taking a deep breath, he pushes the door open and walks in to see her sitting on the floor and crying. "Hey, come on," He hushes her as he squats beside her and pulls her into his warm embrace, stroking her hair. "Why does your family hates me so much? What have I ever done to them?" Her voice breaks sadly as she says amid tears, and he sighs briefly. This is the question he has been asking himself too. The last time he checked, if one's family really love them, they would accept whoever their child or brother chooses to be with, but why's his own different? He has done his investigation on her, and not that she has any bad traits in her family, so he still can't understand why his mom and sister hate her so much. "Shhhhh! Don't cry. It doesn't matter even if they don't like you. As long as I'm in love with you, that's all that matters to me, and that is all that should matter to you, OK?" He tries to make her happy, even if he knows that it's hard to adapt to. "It matt
Chapter 13A dead silence reigns in the dining a few minutes later as the only sound that fills the air is the one coming from the cutlery. Alexa too is sitting with her brother, and picking on her food while having an unsatisfied look on her face, like the food doesn't satisfy her taste enough. Wendy glances at her for the umpteenth time, while wondering why every member of Alex's family hates her so much. What is her offense? "Are you sure you don't want to eat, honey?" Alex's voice jolts her back to reality, and she quickly shakes her head in denial. She has eaten before, and even if she hasn't, she doesn't have the appetite to. Not when Alexa is glaring hard at her. She would choke later if she tries to eat. "Hmm... I'm fine. I already had something to eat before you came back," She says with a forced smile on her face, and Alex returns the smile wholeheartedly. An awkward silence assumes the air afterward. "Alex, have you spoken with Zora in a while now?" Alexa suddenly asks
Chapter 12"Come on, Alex. We're not quarreling, are we? I just missed you and I called to check up on you," Zora's calm voice sounds from the other end, and he sighs briefly as he rests his head on the headrest. The feelings he thought he had gotten rid of years ago came hitting at him as he feels his heart beating rapidly against his chest. How the hell her voice still makes him feel this way even after so many years is a puzzle he can't bring himself to sort out. "Thank you," He says to calmly, trying to fight this crazy feeling. They have been apart for years, she should fucking know her boundary and stop talking to him. "Hmm. Bye," She says from the other end, before silence reigns there, and he assumes that she already ended the call.He sighs briefly as he drops his phone on the passenger's seat next to him, before he starts the car. The thought of Zora keep popping up in his head as he drives down the road, and every effort to get it off proves abortive. "Come on, don't be
Chapter 11After spending a few hours in the office, and attending several meetings like never before, Alex finally drives out of the company. Arriving at the front of the magnificent hospital about twenty minutes later, he hops out of the car and strides to the entrance door. Arriving at the doctor's office a few minutes later, he places a soft knock on it and waits for the doctor's voice to usher him in. "Come in," Following the doctor's voice, he pushes the door open and walks in to see him sitting behind his desk as usual, while having all his attention on the file on his table as he checks them out. The doctor raises his gaze from the book, and a smile plasters on his face as soon as he sees Alex. "Hey, Alex," The young doctor smiles at him. "Joe... It has been a while," He says, pulling out a chair to sit on. Joe and Alex have been best friends since high school. Just ten years ago, Joe went to Texas to study medicine, and he came back to New York five years ago as a certif
Chapter 10The next dayGlancing at his reflection for the last time in the mirror, Alex reaches out for his briefcase on the bed, before he strides out of the room.Descending the staircase minutes later, the aroma coming from the kitchen welcomes him, and he smiles excitedly as he walks his way into the kitchen. He hugs Wendy from the back and kisses her neck. "Good morning, wife," He whispers, and she turns to face him while having a smile on her face. "Good morning, husband. Did you sleep well?" She asks, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him in for a peck on the lips. "Yes, I did. What about you?" He asks, stroking her hair. "Yes, I did," She smiles at him softly. "One minute," He says and bends down, placing his ear on her stomach. "Good morning, son. Daddy is about to leave for work," He whispers, and she chuckles softly. "Come on, he can't hear you. The baby is just one month, and...""He needs to get used to it before he grows in there. I can't wait to have
Chapter 9The next day at Alex's mansion It's a beautiful Sunday morning, and Wendy is still laying on the bed tiredly and sleeping like nothing else matters to her, while Alex is having his bath in the bathroom. They planned to go to the beach by 9am and have fun for the whole day, but it doesn't seem like it's going to work now, since Wendy looks so tired. She tosses on the bed tiredly and yawns before forcing her eyes open to see the blurry figure of her husband standing in front of the mirror. Her lips curve into a smile as she stares at him in admiration. "Good morning, baby," Alex says with a smile on his face, not sparing her a glance. He knew the moment she woke up but just decided to pretend not to. "Good morning, my love. When did you wake up?" She asks tiredly as she finally forces herself to sit up on the bed, with her eyes puffy and red. She hasn't had enough sleep in recent days, so when she had the chance to, she couldn't deprive herself of it again. "5am," He repl
