Chapter 29

Cassie POV

I avoided going home that night, and even long after Damian and I had said goodnight, I found myself staring at the lights shining off the Hudson River. The pier I stood on was deserted, and I probably felt more alone than I had in a while.

Damian had refused to explain the title he'd been given as elected King of the Lonewolves, but that was alright. I didn't feel like being dragged into politics anyway - and he was entitled to his secrets.

“I know that Kythira feels like you belong to him, but if you ever feel unsafe with him, come and find me. I'll always keep you safe,” Damian had told me before he kissed my forehead and walked away.

After about half an hour of roaming the waterfront, I got on my bike and drove slowly back to my apartment, dreading the confrontation with Vasilios.

Only, I shouldn't have bothered.

As I was fumbling for my apartment keys, I heard his voice. But instead of the sound coming from my own apartment, it came from across the hall, from Ann

Anna is nothing but a trouble maker. Vasilios better set Anna straight that he’s not interested and beg to Cassie that he never did anything with her.
