Chapter 4

The other werewolves from various packs snickered, finding the couple's not understanding the sarcasm utterly foolish. After the engagement banquet came the mate bond ceremony. As Seurin and I entered the grand hall, Leon, already present, caught sight of me, a quick flash of surprise in his eyes. But when he turned to Eve, that amazement turned into disgust.

“Eve, your face… why is it so pale?”

Eve paused, then playfully replied, “Leon, that’s just because you don’t understand makeup.”

Leon frowned slightly but still scooped her into his arms, faking a caring smile. Everyone glanced at Eve’s exaggerated makeup and couldn’t help but chuckle. Seurin took my hand and led me into the hall. He smiled gently and pulled a delicate wolf fang necklace from his pocket, carefully placing it around my neck.

“Emily, this is the highest honor of a warrior from the Black Wind Pack. I’m giving it to you now.”

His deep, steady voice, struck a chord in me that rang in my heart. I was stunned, staring at the necklace, a strange emotion welling up. This necklace symbolized Seurin’s identity and honor—and my importance in his heart. I looked up at Seurin. His gaze was deep and gentle, as if he could see into my soul.

“Seurin, this… this is too precious,” I said, overwhelmed.

“You deserve the best,” he replied softly, with unchanging certainty.

Eve walked over with a sly smile. “Emily, your necklace is lovely. But no matter how pretty, it’s useless. Leon’s heart is with me.”

I gave her a cold glance, still silent. The ceremony continued, and I quietly poured a magical potion into Eve’s wine. It had cost me dearly, obtained from a witch—meant to break the magic she had placed on me.

If she thought she could steal my ability to bear a pureblood pup, she was mistaken.

Eve who unaware about what had just happened, drank it all. Moments later, I felt lighter, as if magical chains that held me down had vanished. The forbidden spell was broken. Just then, Leon stood, his eyes locked on Eve, and a certain tension rose. “Eve, what’s wrong? Why do you look so pale?”

“No, I’m fine,” Eve forced a smile, still confused. She was likely still dreaming of becoming the Alpha Chairman’s wife.

I curled my lips into a faint smirk. In this lifetime, her destiny was at the lowest level.

Let’s see how they’d birth a golden-furred heir without forbidden magic. Eve’s discomfort went unnoticed, and the ceremony ended peacefully. After returning to our territories, I expected Eve to notice that the spell had been removed and then seek trouble. But strangely, she didn’t. Seurin’s territory, though small, grew stronger. The first time I arrived at his castle, he surprised me.

“This is your room.”

He opened the door, and I was stunned to find the furnishings nearly identical to those from my original pack.

“I was worried you might get homesick, so I had it decorated like your old room. From now on, this is your home too.”

“We’re mates now. Whatever you need or want, just tell me.”

I covered my mouth in amazement and turned to meet his soft gaze. “To be with you is an honor, Emily. For you, I’ll do my best—always.”

“Thank you,” I whispered, kissing his lips. “Seurin, I’m lucky to have a mate like you.”

We became closer on each passing day.

One month later, I felt a heaviness in my lower belly. Seurin summoned a witch doctor.

She dropped my blood onto a Moonlight Stone, and it glowed golden.

“Congratulations! Luna Emily is pregnant!”

“Oh my moon, Emily—I’m going to be a father!” Seurin, thrilled, hugged me and turned to the maids. “Bring out every tonic in the storeroom! Luna Emily’s meals must be prepared with the utmost care!”

I recalled Leon’s initial affections in my past life, which changed after my child's birth.

I asked cautiously, “Seurin, if I don’t give birth to a pureblood pup, would you still…”

He saw my unease and pulled me into his arms. “Emily, I love you—not for a pureblood heir or the Alpha Chairman’s position. I love you because you’re a kind and wonderful person. Even if you don’t give birth to a pureblood pup, I’ll never regret becoming your mate.”

My heart eased up again.

A maid rushed in: “Luna Emily, a letter has arrived!”

It was from Leon—Eve was pregnant too. He mocked me: “Emily, surprised? Your sister Eve is pregnant. This time, I will become the Alpha Chairman! When I take the throne, I’ll repay you for the lies you told me! Trash like you—whatever you’re carrying must be some bastard. I’ll send your whole filthy family to hell!”

I sneered, crumpling the letter. What a fool. Eve no longer had my ability—how could she bear a pureblood child?

Ten months later, under a sky of seven aligned stars, word spread that Eve was about to give birth. Coincidentally, it was also my due date. Seurin stayed close although, I knew that he was nervous, but he was also very attentive. As I was wheeled into the delivery room, Leon saw us. He grinned smugly.

“Well, well. If it isn’t Emily and Seurin. What, can’t give birth to a pureblood pup, so you came to watch? See those stars? The Seven-Star Alignment—it’s a sign a pureblood heir will be born! Once Eve gives birth, I’ll be the Alpha Chairman! Then, you’ll both have to kneel before me!”

I gave a cold laugh. “Is that so? Then I’ll be looking forward to it.”

Just then, a witch doctor burst out, hands covered in blood, stumbling as she cried out: “Alpha Leon, Luna Eve has given birth! Your child is here!”
