Chapter 7

SKY POV

There comes a point in life where your mind, your heart, and soul just decide:

Enough is enough.

You don’t know when that happens. It doesn’t warn you. But when it does, you just stop taking all the bullshit thrown at you. I don’t know what snapped inside of me, but I was fuckin’ glad that it did. Because I was tired. I was fed up with being thrown to the wolves my entire life. If that was my fate, being judged and mocked, being accused and hated for all the wrong reasons, then fuck hate, fuck people, and fuck everything else.

I was the one in charge of my own fate.

Scanning through that contract, I thought it would hurt to find that my parents disregarded me that much. But weirdly, it didn’t. I was used to being overlooked by them and it didn’t matter anymore. I was now my own person, and Campbell was no longer my last name.

I was a Smith. And that only was enough because like my last name, everything else was in for the change.

Going downstairs after my little encounter with my DEAR HUSBAND, note that sarcasm, I found Arthur and Cassie in the dining room, with a whole buffet on the table in front of them.

“Skylar. I am so glad you could join us, come.” She got to her feet and gestured at the seat on Arthur’s right. I eyed it with questions in my eyes and looked at Arthur if it was okay, but he was occupied with his croissant that he didn’t seem to realize what was happening.

“Isn’t that Kayden’s seat?” The rules in the rich families, I knew them damn well. Helloooooo, I know it sounds crazy but I am a rich girl as well. The biggest and loneliest chair belonged to the head of the family. The left one belonged to the spouse and the right one; you guessed it, the jewel of the family.

“Oh, no silly. Kayden barely joins us for breakfast. Come now.” She said with a smile, and why not?

I took my place by Arthur’s side and quickly piled some goodies on my plate. Surprisingly, the conversation with my in-laws was easy. Unlike my parents, they seemed to be interested in what I had to say, and they seemed to be intrigued by every word that comes out of my mouth.

“If you need any funding or any help of a sort, just tell me and I will pull some strings. I know people who know people, and we can wound our way in your industry.” Arthur offered, and I found my face splitting up in the biggest grin. He was nice, beneath that big angry bad boy façade he pulled every time, he was nice. Heck, why didn’t Kayden inherit some of his good traits? Because aside from the looks, Kayden was his own person. Nothing like the two people sitting in front of me.

“Thank you, Mr. Smith,” I said with a smile,

“It’s Arthur. Or dad. We’re family now.” Whaaaaaaaaat? Was this real?

“Speaking of which, your wedding dress. I have never seen anything like it. It was so beautiful. You designed it?” Cassie beamed glaring at me. I may be wrong, but her eyes were literally sparkling. It felt… nice. To be heard. It really felt great.

“Yes. I spent the five days gap designing the gown and the reception dress. I just wanted something of my own… since….” Oh no, Skylar. Don’t go there. These people are nice and they took you as family.

“Ooooh, honey. We understand. But know that things are going to be different now. The Smiths take care of their own.” Cassie cooed, and I smiled softly at her. Was I in a dream or something? Because if I was, then I was going to hate it when I woke up to find that all this was just a nice dream.

“What are your plans for today? I am sure you don’t have much planned; you married Kayden for crying out loud. That asshole cares about nothing except his work.” Arthur said glaring at his red velvet cake.

“I am going back to my studio to do some stuff. It’s not much though, we are working on this Haute couture for the upcoming MEA Awards. We normally close some real contracts during these kinds of seasons” I replied,

“If you won’t be that busy then Donnie-Lyn will take you to your house. I don’t trust Kayden to do that.” He replied simply, and here I was about to lose my shit,

“My house?” What was he talking about? I had a little nice penthouse in the city, and I loved it to the moon and back.

“We figured you wouldn’t want to live with your in-laws. So Arthur and I bought you two a house, as a wedding gift.” Cassie gleamed with a pleasant smile. I wonder how she managed to be on cloud nine, always! But, what the hell?

“Does Kayden know about this?” I asked instead. Heck, this was all too much. I mean yeah I get it, we married on a whim and never really paid attention to what the future may hold for us, but I never envisioned living under the same roof with that dicktard, like ever. And I am afraid we were going to murder each other even before making it off the front porch.

“He does. But like I said, I don’t trust him enough to handle it. So Donnie-Lynn will take you there and get everything else you need. Additional maidservants, everything. Just tell her and we will have it delivered to you.” He said tapping his mouth with his serviette gently, then pushed out of his chair and gave us warm smiles,

“And that’s my cue. I have things to deal with at the company.” He said, and then leaned down to kiss his wife on his lips before leaving us. Cassie watched her husband leave, with a dreamy look in her eyes. Nigga was in looooove!

“He is such a fine man, isn’t he?” Weeeeeeeeell….

“He is. He is very nice.” I replied, because what else could I do?

“Okay. SO how about I go with you? I personally decorated every inch of that house and I so can’t wait for you to see it.”

Wasn’t an arranged marriage supposed to be like, a very giant pain in the ass or something? And the in-laws, weren't they supposed to be cranky and annoying and pretty much evil?

Because this really felt unreal.

"Yeah sure. We can go if that is okay with you. I am sure Donnie-Lynn has her hands full with the cleaning and everything." I replied trying to mask the shock. But inside, I was screaming!

"Oh my soul, I am so excited. And your studio, do you mind if I come along? It is really boring to be a housewife and I don't much to do. I could go to my ladies as usual, but I just want us to get to know each other better. It is okay if you feel like it is not time yet to have me all over your place, I totally get it. But really, I would love to see your studio." She said all these with her hands clapped on her chest.

"I don't see a problem with that. Plus we are having some new goodies so yeah..."

"Yayyyyy..."
