Chapter 4

Author: Eleven
I followed Logan to the restaurant, then settled into a corner seat, angled just behind them and hidden by a large potted plant.

The waiter studied me curiously as he asked me multiple times what I'd like to order. His increasingly loud voice garnered Logan's attention, causing me to open the menu in a panic and hide behind it. In the end, I ordered a cup of coffee just to get the waiter to leave.

By then, the other woman who had also ended up on the trending searches today had already sat down beside Logan. It was his soon-to-be fiancée, Anna Malone.

The atmosphere around them was a little awkward. Anna was clearly frustrated about Logan's daughter who had randomly popped out of nowhere, and her gaze carried traces of contempt when she looked at Lumi.

However, I knew that wealthy heiresses like her prided themselves on keeping up appearances, so she wouldn't make things difficult for a child in public.

And as expected, Anna could only pretend to be gentle and gracious as she asked, "Are you Lumi? Shall I order you a slice of cake?"

Though Lumi was feeling a little afraid, she still answered Anna's questions politely.

"Thank you, ma'am. I've never had cake before."

"You've never had cake before? How did your mother even raise you?" asked Anna, a look of pity flashing across her face.

"I usually roast potatoes for myself. When Mommy goes out looking for men, she'd leave me some potatoes. She would go on dates with different men, and sometimes, she'd get a to-go bag and bring me their leftovers."

I had taught Lumi to say those words.

Logan's expression immediately darkened, and the way his hands clenched tightly around his cutlery showed how much he was trying to suppress his rage.

Anna chuckled. I knew she wasn't laughing at Lumi, but at me.

She was definitely worried that I'd use Lumi as a way to get back with Logan, but with how badly I had raised Lumi, he would unlikely forgive me even if I got down on my knees and begged him.

Anna moved to sit next to Lumi and cut up her steak for her. She even wiped Lumi's mouth with a napkin, presenting the image of a doting mother.

A smile crossed my face when I saw how satisfied Lumi looked as she ate.

Her reappearance had indeed been planned by me, but my goal was merely to have Logan and Anna accept her, even if it was just on the surface level.

As Anna fed Lumi, she studied Logan out of the corner of her eye. He had a wine glass in hand while staring at Lumi with a frown. Lumi's lack of table manners irked him greatly, but he naturally couldn't blame a six-year-old child. Instead, all the blame went to me.

Anna took the chance to ask the question on her mind.

"Eat slowly. There's more if you want. I'll buy you nice food every day from now on. Also, where's your mother now?"

Lumi stopped chewing. Sadness filled her eyes as she swallowed the bite of pudding in her mouth.

"Mommy died. She went to sleep, and I couldn't wake her up anymore," she said in a small voice.

She then retrieved the death certificate from her backpack and handed it to Logan. On it, my cause of death was listed as cancer, and the time of death was the day before Lumi had come looking for Logan.

At the same time, Logan had been playing with Lumi when the snowflake hair tie around her ponytail suddenly broke. Even though he had bought her plenty of hair ties, she still insisted on using this old one. Perhaps due to some sort of connection between us, Lumi stared at the broken hair tie and suddenly burst into tears. She cried for me, well aware that it had been a while since she last mentioned me. Not wanting to infuriate Logan, she rarely brought me up. But now, grief had gotten the better of her. Just then, Logan's butler informed him about my death. I was really dead now. Hearing this, Logan seemed a little dazed. He turned toward Lumi, who was still crying, and asked, "Did Rafaela treat you well?"Lumi's tear-streaked face was flushed as she croaked, "Mommy is the best. Over the years, she did a lot of things for me. She could've lived a better life without me… It was all because of me that she fell sick!"Logan found it hard to accept this side of me. "Then, why

  • No Pain, No Gain   Chapter 10

Anna looked as if someone had punched the living daylights out of her. Blood drained from her small, delicate face, and her designer dress was tainted with my blood. It must've been her first time witnessing my unscrupulous tactics first-hand. The cut wasn't deep—just enough to shed some blood and make it look more terrifying than it actually was. I regained consciousness not long after, then I contacted the reporters I was acquainted with. Panic gripped Anna when she reached home. She belatedly realized that if she was exposed, her reputation wasn't the only thing at stake. Bowen Group would also reconsider her engagement to Logan. That night, she scrambled to hire the best PR firm, preparing for the storm of bad press she was sure I'd unleash. Just as the team was focused on social media and waiting to handle the fallout, the first trending topic appeared."Logan's ex-girlfriend, Rafaela, threatens his fiancée Anna—trying to sabotage their engagement with her death!""The

Logan did as he said he would. He kept Lumi close to him, never giving her another chance to visit me. The doctor advised me to go on a trip. Stating that my illness was incurable and that I only had a month left at most, he said seeing the beauty of the world one last time was far better than lying here in pain. I shook my head and declined his offer. After making sure Lumi was safe with Logan, I no longer felt attached to this world. No scenery—no matter how breathtaking—could ever compare to Lumi's smile. But I knew I couldn't see her anymore. My hair had fallen out in clumps, and my body was all but skin and bones. She'd be terrified if she saw me like this. Logan was right about one thing. I was a vile woman, and if Lumi stayed with me, she'd grow up rotten too. So I just scrolled through photos and videos of her over and over again on my phone. Just when I thought no one would visit me before I died, Anna showed up. Clad in an exquisite dress, she strutted into my w

Women often flocked to Logan with all sorts of ulterior motives, but I was different. I gave him a chance to play the hero. That night, he took the bar owner to the police station and bought over the bar for me. The drug was so potent that before we could even reach the hospital, Logan had done it with me in his Lincoln Limo to get rid of the drug's effects. The driver ended up changing the destination from the hospital to the hotel. When I woke up the next day, torn shreds of clothing and tissues were everywhere—evidence of the wild night we spent together. Logan was surprised to learn that I had been a virgin until that night, so I quickly played along and assumed the role of a socialite who had fallen from grace and ended up working at a bar.I made sure I looked every bit the pitiful woman who refused to give in to fate and be exploited. From that day onward, not only did I become the owner of the bar, but I also became Logan's first official girlfriend. My best friend

I knew Logan had never believed the news of my death from the start. Even when he had seen my death certificate, he still hadn't fully believed it.This was why he had someone keep an eye on Lumi, just waiting for me to slip up.But that was okay. This was all part of my plan.I knew Lumi would definitely come looking for me. She had been with me ever since she was born, after all. Thus, I had deliberately told the neighbors where I had gone and waited for Lumi to eventually lead Logan over.I wanted Logan to thoroughly hate me, to believe that I had abused Lumi. Only then would he feel more sympathy for Lumi and place all the blame squarely on my shoulders. As for Lumi, the best outcome for her was to forget me or hate me. That way, when I really did die, she wouldn't suffer as much. With that in mind, I continued stoking Logan's fire. "How did it feel to get tricked by me last time? Though, you've grown smarter now. Are you happy now that you've discovered the truth? What a s

Logan's sudden appearance startled Lumi.I watched as anger slowly took over his still-handsome face, and I smiled bitterly. He was the CEO of Bowen Group. He had already fallen for me once. There was no possibility that it would happen again."Long time no see, my love," I said with feigned flirtatiousness. My frivolous attitude only angered him more. He dragged Lumi over and handed her to the bodyguards standing behind him. He then walked up to me, wrapped his fingers around my neck, and slammed my head against the pillow."Don't call me that! You're not worthy, Rafaela!"My face turned a deep crimson, and my consciousness started to fade. Through the haze, I heard Lumi wailing and apologizing."I'm sorry, Daddy! I was the one who didn't listen and snuck out here to find Mommy. Please let Mommy go!"Lumi's cries made my heart ache, and I used all the strength I had left to squeeze out, "You're… s-scaring… her…"Logan froze when he heard this. Then, he quickly loosened his ho
