Ethan's face froze. His phone was still in his hand. The glass was still shattered on the floor of the bar.

"Mum?" he said again. "Mum, where are you?"

The line was crackling. Her voice kept breaking in and out.

Ethan stood up. His hands were shaking.

LYDIA'S POVI couldn't sleep. How could I? I laid on my old bed, staring at the ceiling, running through everything Ethan said. "She walked into her own trap." I held onto those words like a lifeline. It felt like a dream come true.I got dressed and went downstairs. Sandra was in the kitchen with Noah, fixing his backpack. Mum was at the stove, flipping pancakes."Morning, baby," she said. "Sit and eat."I sat at the table. Noah climbed into my lap. He was already in his school uniform, his hair combed, his cheeks still pink from sleep."Mama, are you staying here today?""I have to go to work, baby. But I will see you tonight."He pouted. Then he kissed my cheek and ran to Sandra. She took his hand and led him out the door. The house went quiet immediately. My mother set a plate in front of me. I looked at the pancakes. I was not hungry."You need to eat," she said with her hands on her waist."Mum, I'm not a child." I picked up my fork."Not in here, Barrister. Now tell me what is

I will report back to Mr. David as soon as you hang up," Maya said.I packed a few things and drove to my mother's house. The city fell away behind me. Trees replaced buildings. The road got quieter. My hands were still shaking on the wheel. I had not stopped shaking since the conference room, since Nina's eyes burned at me like they were going to swallow me any moment. My mother opened the door just when I was about to knock for the second time. She took one look at my face, pulled me inside, and hugged me tightly.I couldn't hold back the tears. They burned my eyes. I could barely see anymore."Baby," she said. "Don't say a word. You are in Mama's arms now. Don't be hard on yourself."She took me in and gave me a cup of coffee. We sat at the kitchen counter, and then she asked, "Can you talk now?"I told her everything. Da

She walked out like she was being pursued.I stood alone in the conference room. My hands were still shaking.******Marcus came back in. His face was tight. He closed the door behind him."What was that?" he asked."What was what? I should be asking you that, not you.""I don't get it, David." He frowned."You followed her like a loyal dog. You did not even look at me."Marcus stepped closer. "She is pregnant with your child, David. Whether you like it or not, how could you kiss another woman in front of her?""I was not kissing another woman. I was kissing my wife.""Your ex-wife." He blurted. LYDIA'S POVThe parking lot was dark. I was walking to my car, my heels clicking on the concrete, my mind still on the slap I had given David hours ago. My hand still burned from the sting."Lydia!"I froze. David's voice came from behind me. I turned. He was standing ten feet away, his hands at his sides, his chest moving like he had been running."Are you married to Ethan legally?" His voice was low and sharp. "I need the truth."The question hit me like a door slamming shut. I stopped walking. My heart slammed against my ribs.I turned slowly and walked toward him. I paced around him like he was a stranger I was seeing for the first time."You know, you have guts, David." My voice was low and controlled. "Showing up at my house. Kissing me at will.
