LOGINThe bathroom light hummed twice, glowing dimly.
Jayden stood frozen in the middle of the living room, his heart slamming so hard against his ribs in sharp panicked beats that echoed in his ears. He was sure the light hadn't been on before, he never let it on when leaving the house. Slowly, Jayden began taking heavy steps towards the bathroom, as he edged closer, a dry gasp escaped his lips. His throat tightened, fingers curling uselessly as this sides as his nails bit into his palms as it pain might be his only anchor. “Get a grip,” he whispered, his voice shaking. “You live alone.” But that word alone felt like a haunting lie. Suddenly, his phone began ringing. Jayden flinched so sharply, that his soul almost left his body. Slowly, he took it out from the bag strapped on his shoulders, the screen light, bright and cruel in the dim room. It was a private number, his stomach dropped. For three unending seconds, he stared at the screen, chest rising anf falling in shallow, uneven breaths until the call ended. Another vibration followed immediately. This time, he answered with trembling fingers. “Hello,” he whispered, trying to keep his voice steady but failed miserably. From the speaker, Ronan's voice slid through, smooth and amused. “Why are you trembling so much,” Ronan asked softly, “inside your own apartment?” Jayden’s blood ran cold. “What…what are you talking about?” His eyes darted around the room, to the ceiling, the corners, the shadows. “How would you even…..” Ronan chuckled. “Seems like my card had no effect seeing the way you dropped it.” Jayden staggered back a step, his heel hitting the edge of the rug. “You….” His breath hitched. “You’re watching me?” Silence stretched, choking and deliberate. “I prefer to think of it as keeping an eye on my debtor.” Ronan added, calmly. “You sick bastard,” Jayden shouted, rage finally clawing past the fear. “You installed cameras in my house? Do you know how illegal that is? You’re infringing on my rights….” “Rights?” Ronan interrupted lightly. “Jayden, you owe me. I’m just making sure you don’t forget that.” Jayden’s hands trembled as he dragged them through his hair. “Where the hell are they? I will pay you so get them out of my apartment.” “Should I come over then?” Ronan taunted, sharply. Jayden swallowed hard, disgust curling in his stomach. “You’re insane.” “Make sure you use the sponge tonight,” Ronan continued, voice dropping, intimate. “Or should I teach you how to use it?” Jayden’s chest heaved. “You don't get to control me nor watch me.” “Oh, sweetheart,” Ronan murmured, almost fond. “That ship sailed the moment you kissed me. So better….” Jayden hung up, fear clawing back into his spine. He stood there shaking, the phone still pressed to his ear long after the line went dead. Then he moved fast, so fast and frantic, throwing open cabinets, checking behind frames, under tables and inside vents. Yet he found nothing, no blinking red lights, no wires, no lenses which scared him worse. But then, a creeping doubt wormed into his mind, Ronan could be anywhere even outside, watching from the shadows. His pulse raced as he imagined unseen eyes following every step, every breath. He wasn’t safe, not for a single second, grabbing his work bag instinctively, he walked out of the apartment, banging the door behind him without looking back. — As he climbed the stairs to his hotel room, he kept glancing back making to be sure he wasn't followed. The moment he got into his room, he banged the door shut, locking it instantly. Slowly, he lowered himself onto the edge of the bed, eyes darting around the room. The hotel room smelled like detergent and unfamiliar soap. Every sound made him flinch, the hum of the AC, footsteps in the hallway and the distant slam of another door. Fear moved in his veins every minute, keeping his awake all night. — By the time the sun rose, his apartment was being torn apart. Drawers emoted, cushions sliced open, wall panels removed, light bulbs broken, carpets tore apart. Three men moved through the space with professional efficiency, scanning, dismantling and muttering to one another. “Found one,” a man said near the ceiling vent. Jayden's stomach twisted in dread. Then another and another. By the time, the sun began setting, they were done and on the table was littered with tiny devices black, silver and nearly invisible. “They’re gone,” one of the men said. “All of them.” Jayden nodded, but the tightness in his chest didn’t ease by any inch. Even after they left, he stood in the center of the room, arms wrapped around himself as that unsettling feeling of being watched hung over him. Just as he was about to lower himself into a cushion, his phone rang. He picked it up with trembling fingers after staring at the ID for a second. “Seems like you hired the best,” Ronan teased, voice calm. “What do you want now?!” Jayden shrieked, eyes scanning the room. “You,” Ronan replied quickly. “It is so similar right. I just want you inside your bath tub with the sponge on….” Jayden hung up instantly, breath heavy. His mind was finally made up, that night he put the apartment up for sale returning to the hotel room. — A week later, Jayden stood in his new apartment which was closer to work, quieter and walked in layers of security, motion sensors, anti bug scanners and cameras if his own. With Ronan's silence even though it felt unsettling was quiet, Jayden returned to his life believing control was finally within his reach. But when he returned to his office the next day, he saw his favourite flower, white lilies on his desk with a note. “I'm sorry.” In an instant, he tossed it instant the dustbin knowing exactly who it was from. Drake. But they kept coming, on his desk, at his doorstep and he kept tossing them all away before he could breathe in the scent. Until one evening, he returned from work, exhaustion crushing his bones, only to see the lights on in his apartment. He froze, his fingers trembling on the doorknob as a shiver crawled up his spine.Ronan didn't wait for Matthew to release the videos before he slid out of the office and returned to his penthouse. The sun was already setting, painting the penthouse orange when he drove. He packed the car neatly before stepping into the house. But the moment he walked in, the strong scent of burnt mashed meatloaf with potatoes hit his nostrils. His gaze shifted towards the kitchen and before he knew it, he had already run towards the kitchen. With a sharp push, the kitchen door burst open and then smoke welcomed him first. His heart skipped a beat as he peered through the thick smoke. “Jay… Jayden,”Within seconds, he found the gas tap and turned it off, quickly quenching the fire from the pot. He had barely turned it off, reducing the thick smoke when Jayden appeared by the door with a tablet in his hand.“Ronan, you are—” the remaining words got stuck in his mouth as he saw the thick smoke. He had just barely gone upstairs to get his tablet to learn how to prepare the mashed mea
Jayden's eyes fluttered open slowly, he had barely had time to adjust to the brightness of the room when a sharp pain dulled at the edge of his head.He grabbed his head, forcing his body up as he scanned the room. The room was huge and gray The room was enormous—easily three times the size of the one he had stayed in at Drake’s house reeking of a familiar scent. Everything was draped in shades of gray, from the sleek walls to the plush bedding that lay over his body, giving the space a cold, expensive elegance. His mind drifted to the last thing he could remember, he was clearly inside Ronan's office when someone had—He jerked up quickly for the bed but before he could reach the door, it opened and someone stepped inside. Ronan. His well-defined, thick chest was bare as he was only clad in a black jogger which was barely on his waist as his v-line was so visible.Jayden gulped nothing down, taking a step backward. The sight before him was so freaking hot but the face staring at him
Drake's mind went still, he didn't know he had slid down using the cloth until the guard’s bright torchlight met his eyes. He knew Jayden had betrayed him but that was his problem to deal with not his father’s“I'm sorry, sir.” The guard quickly apologised, lowering both his gun and torch.“I'll handle him,” Drake dismissed, waving him off.“But—”“What's going on here?” Alessio's voice cut through the air.Drake's breath came heavy as he met his father's gaze. They were hunting for Ronan and he was protecting the only clue to him.“Nothing,” he gulped, before the guard could answer.Alessio's eyes peered into him, sharp and unwavering but he kept his expression still, refusing to give himself away.“Aren't you meant to be checking on Jayden?” he queried, breaking the tension.Drake swallowed down the lump in his throat, his palm getting sweaty. “I—”“Sir, Jayden is missing.” a voice suddenly yelled from above.Drake looked up instantly and it was Drake, gazing down from Jayden's win
The night air struck Ronan's lungs the second he jumped off Jayden's window, landing on the gravel below. His knees bent instantly to absorb the impact, his coat flaring behind him before settling into stillness. For a moment, he didn't move as his eyes lifted instinctively towards Jayden's room watching the curtains sway faintly.Ronan exhaled slowly and turned, moving along the wall in swift silence.Every step was measured and controlled like the practiced movements of someone who had survived too many ambushes to trust quiet nights. He was three strides from the fence when suddenly his instinct screamed halting his step. His gaze shifted sideways too quickly and there were men, dressed entirely in black, blending into the darkness so perfectly they almost didn't exist. They had no flashlights, no voices nor sound accompanying them just slow patrol patterns designed for one purpose. “To capture him.”Ronan's jaw tightened. “You never change, old man.” he murmured under his breath.
The gunshot still echoed in Jayden’s ears long after the sound died.Blood hit the floor first, quietly.Jayden’s gaze lifted inch by inch until the figure standing in front of him came into focus, Black. His shoulders trembled slightly, one hand pressed against the spreading stain soaking through his coat. Dark red seeped between his fingers, dripping steadily onto the concrete.Alessio lowered the gun, irritation flashing across his face.“What,” he said coldly, “do you think you are doing?”Black exhaled through clenched teeth, voice steady despite the strain. “Why don't you rethink this?”Jayden stared, breath stuck somewhere between his lungs and throat.“He’s still useful,” Black continued calmly. “Killing him now gains us nothing.”Smoke curled from Alessio’s cigarette as he tilted his head. “You stepped in front of my bullet.”“Sir…”“Do you believe your explanation is worth it?” Alessio interrupted, coldly.Black's lips twitched faintly. “I believe it is, if you spare me a c
The air in the room seemed to vanish as sweat clouded Jayden's palm.Black stood by the doorway, hands tucked casually into his coat pockets, his expression carved from stone.Sunlight hit him from behind, turning him into a silhouette blocking the only clear path to the door.“Well,” Black said mildly, gaze drifting to the bedstand. “You never disappoint me.”Jayden’s breathing came out fast and heavy as his hands instinctively pulled out the USB drive and slid it into his pocket. But Black noticed his movement, his lips curving faintly. “Your actions are so predictable.”Jayden's lips quivered. “What do you want?”Jayden chuckled under his breath and took a step forward, each step closing the distance between them.“So,” Black continued, ignoring Jayden's question, “this is what you've been rushing your life for.”Jayden swallowed. “My life is none of your business.”“None of my business?” Black repeated, stopping at the foot of the bed.So close enough for Jayden to notice the fain
The crack of the gunshot shattered the morning before Jayden even understood what the sound was as glass exploded behind him.A sharp hand slammed into his chest. “Down!”The world tilted violently as Drake dragged him to the floor, Jayden's shoulder hitting marble as breath knocked out of his lung
The phone vibrated once with a soft sound that Jayden almost missed through the ringing still trapped inside his head.He lifted his head slowly, eyes fixed on the lit screen in his trembling hand, “Unknown number,” his lips murmured.Just then a notification slid across the screen. “Do you underst
Jayden crossed his hands around his upper body as his mind tensed. "Why are you here?”Drake smiled without his eyes. “To help you rest.”Jayden swallowed hard, forcing his voice to stay steady. “I'm fine, Ronan. I can now sleep by…..”“Why do you sound scared, princess?” Drake drawled.“I'm….I'm n
*I said I’ll pay it,” Jayden repeated. “All of it.”Ronan took a step forward, then another, until Jayden’s back hit the wall.Ronan’s hand braced beside his head, caging him in. “Careful,” he murmured. “You have no idea what you’re offering.”Jayden lifted his chin, breath trembling. “You think I
