Oliver’s expression softened further, a rare warmth entering his icy blue eyes. He watched the way her hand instinctively went to her cheek, the nervous gesture only making her more endearing. “Clubbing,” he repeated with a dismissive wave of his hand. “That is what people in their twenties do. They think going to loud bars and spending money on overpriced drinks is an experience. He leaned back in his chair, studying her with a genuine interest. “You are right- most people don’t understand making work a hobby. They see it as a means to an end, not something you can be passionate about.” His gaze lingered on her face for a moment before he picked up his latte again. “So, tell me about this specific part that caught your interest. The part that made you blush. The question was softer now, almost coaxing.

“Oh, no. There is no part of the book that...” Harper said while finishing the document binding. She took a deep breath. “Please just ignore the whole blushing thing. It’s rather embarrassing,” she requests silently and look down at the bound documents. Oliver’s lips curved into a knowing smile at her attempt to brush off the blush. He was not about to let it go so easily- the rare glimpse of vulnerability was far too interesting. “Embarrassing?” he repeated, his voice taking on a teasing quality. “On the contrary, I find it quite endearing. Most people in this office have built walls around their personal lives so high I can’t even see over them.” He stood up from his desk, moving around to lean against the front edge near where she stood holding the bound documents. The proximity caused the air between them to shift, charged with unspoken tension. “You are asking me to ignore something that tell me you are passionate about something beyond just work. That is not something I encounter often in my daily life,” he continued softly.

“Well, it is just... Sharing my passion with you... It felt rather intimate sir,” she admitted softly, still looking down at the bound documents. Oliver’s breath caught slightly at her admission, the word ‘intimate’ hanging in the air between them. He had not expected such a direct response, especially not from someone as reserved as her. “Intimate,” he repeated quietly, his voice losing its usual authoritative edge. “I suppose it is. Sharing your passions with someone who might otherwise just see you as their secretary.” He moved closer, closing the distance until she stood directly in front of her. His large frame cast a shadow over hers as he reached out to take the bound documents from her hands. His fingers brushed against hers in the exchange, lingering for a moment longer than necessary. “Thank you for binding these,” he said softly, setting the documents aside on his desk. “And thank you for sharing your passion with me.”

As he took the documents, Harper looked up to his face. The blush on her cheeks deepened. “Oh, uh... Of course, sir. I should get back to work,” she stuttered nervously. Oliver’s hand lingered on hers for a moment longer than necessary, his thumb brushing against her knuckles in a gesture that felt anything but professional. The heat from his touch seemed to radiate up her arm, making her blush deepen even further. “Work can wait,” he said softly, his voice taking on a husky quality. His ice-blue eyes held her captive, searching for any sign of resistance or invitation in her expression. “Unless you have something more pressing than discussing industry trends with your boss.” He did not move away, instead leaning in slightly closer. The scent of his cologne- something masculine and sophisticated- filled her senses. His other hand came up to rest on the desk beside her, effectively caging her between his body and the furniture. “I am finding myself quite... Intrigues by this conversation, and i don’t want it to end just yes,” he murmured softly.

“Oh, alright. What would you like to discuss?” Harper asked softly, her heart hammering against her chest. Oliver’s lips curved into a slow, deliberate smile at her soft question. The sound of her voice seemed to hang in the air between them, a gentle invitation that sent a pleasant warmth through his chest. “What would i like to discuss?” he repeated, his voice dropping to a low, intimate murmur. “How about we start with something simple. Tell me what you think of my company’s latest collection. Be honest.” He leaned in closer, his broad shoulders easily blocking out the rest of the office beyond their immediate space. The proximity allowed him to catch the faint scent of her perfume- something floral and subtle that suited her personality perfectly. “Most people in this company are too afraid to give me their real opinions,” he continued, his gaze fixed on her face. “They think I want to hear how brilliant everything is. But I value honesty more.” His hand moved from the desk to rest lightly on the small of her back, a gesture that felt both possessive and comforting.

“Oh, well I quite liked the company’s latest collection, the color scheme was balanced between vibrant and dull. The material was practical but also pleasing to the touch,” Harper said, trying to sound professional. “But the female line could use some readjustment,” she added hesitantly. Oliver’s eyebrows shot up in genuine surprise at her critique, a slow smile spreading across his face. Here was someone who was not afraid to challenge him, even on matters of aesthetics within his own company. “Readjustment?” he echoed. “Suck as? Do not hold back on my account- I asked for honesty.” His ice-blue eyes searched her face intently, clearly impressed by her willingness to offer constructive criticism. Most people would have praised every single piece without reservation, fearing repercussions for speaking their minds. “The female line needs more... Flexibility,” she continued hesitantly. “Some of the cuts are too rigid for everyday wear. Women want comfort and practicality along with style. Also, the clothes themselves are not easily taken off. I mean if you are in a hurry...” she added, then she blushed, realizing the implications of her words. “I mean, if you mess on them and want to quickly take them off...” She quickly tries to recover from her embarrassment.

Harper placed the takeaway coffee cup on Marius desk and said professionally, “I can’t say I know everyone’s names, but I understand my role. I already prepared the proposed budget for Knox’s campaign. Andrew from accounting would like to discuss something and asked for an appointment today.” He leaned back, impressed despite himself. He had not expected much more than a few introductions and some trouble finding the printer, let alone a prepared budget. “You have been busy then,” he said, his yellow green eyes scanning the folder she had placed on his desk. “I like that. Efficiency is exactly what this department needs right now.” He pulled the budget toward him, flipping through the pages with practiced ease. “As for Andrew from accounting– he is always looking for something to discuss. Tell him I can do three o’clock. I want to get through Knox’s briefing first.”Marius looked up from the p

  • Paperwork and Hearthbeats   Chapter 115: Focused on What Matter?

Marius took the takeaway latte from Tera, the warmth seeping into his palm. “Not much,” he admitted, pulling out his chair and sinking into it. Tera’s gaze lingered on his for a second too long before she straightened up. “This campaign,” Tera started. “Is it going to be a long one?” he took a slow sip of the latte, the caffeine hitting his system with a sharp jolt. He set the cup down on his desk and leaned back, tapping his pen against his chin. “Knox is driving it,” he said, referring to the Scottish designer. “He has got big ideas for this campaign, so it might stretch out longer than we originally planner. He wants to push the boundaries with the visuals.” Tera nodded slowly, her expression unreadable. “Knox. Right. I have heard he can be… demanding.”“You have no idea,” Marius muttered, a faint weary smile tugging at his lips. “But he knows what he wants, and that make

Oliver reaches the elevator first, pressing the button with a sharp click of his finger. The doors slide open, revealing the polished interior. He steps inside and turns to face Harper, his expression once again a mask of professional calm. But as the elevator begins its ascent, his icy blue eyes catching hers in the mirror, and for a split second, that knowing look is returned. “Let’s see how long that lasts,” he says quietly, the words barely audible over the hum of the elevator. The doors open on the executive floor and he steps out. “I am heading to advertisement,” she said casually. “Have a nice day.” She smiled lightly and pressed the button in the elevator. He watches the elevator doors close on her face, his gaze lingering for a moment longer than a casual glance would require. Then he turns and heads toward his office, his mind already shifting, compartmentalizing the warmth of the morning into a neat drawer to be opened later.

  • Paperwork and Hearthbeats   Chapter 113: Focus, Harper

“You do not normally drive,” Harper comments. “What did you give your driver the day off?” Oliver keeps his icy blue eyes on the road, one hand resting casually on the steering wheel. He does not offer an explanation immediately, his jaw set in that way that suggests he has already decided. “He is off today,” he says simple, his tone matter of fact. “I needed to be in the right headspace for this meeting. Driving myself helps me focus.” He manoeuvres the car through a tight turn, his movements precise and controlled. The silence between them stretches for a moment before he adds, almost as an afterthought. “Besides, I wanted more time with you this morning.” The professional mask slips just enough for that hint of possessiveness to show through, before he quickly corrects his posture and settles back into his quiet, composed self. Her hand rests on his thigh. “It is a nice change of pace,” she said with a bright

  • Paperwork and Hearthbeats   Chapter 112: Morning Routine

“He knows,” Oliver says, his voice low and steady. “But he is not stupid. He will be watching for any sign of favouritism. If we come in there acting like a team, he might suspect something, but if we present a solid business case, he will be too busy calculating the ROI to care about our personal lives.” He steps closer to Harper, his hand sliding to the small of her back, pulling her just an inch closer. “We keep it strictly professional. No lingering looks, no inside jokes. I will be the demanding boss, and you will be the efficient secretary who just happens to have a brilliant mind for strategy.” his eyes soften as they meet hers. “That is going to be hard,” she comments softly. “I like it when you are all demanding and professional.” His hand on her back tightens for a fraction of a second, his knuckles brushing the fabric of her jacket. A slow, dangerous smirk spreads across his face– the kind he usually saves

  • Paperwork and Hearthbeats   Chapter 111: Love Self Esteem

“The Love Self Esteem Project,” Oliver repeats, testing the words. “It is a bold move. It would certainly differentiate us from the usual high-glamour, retouch heavy campaigns our competitors are running.” He taps his fingers rhythmically against the countertop, a habit he falls into when he is processing a new strategy. “It would require a completely overhaul of our visual direction. We would need to move away from perfectionism and focus on authenticity. That means no heavy airbrushing, real skin textures, diverse casting– the whole works.” He looks at Harper, his eyes sharp with interest. “It is a significant pivot for our brand identity. It would be a massive undertaking, but the PR benefits could be enormous of we execute it correctly.”“And it could significantly decrease the spending,” Harper added confidently. Oliver’s eyebrows shoot up, and he leans forward, his interest piqued by the financial a

“Says my boss,” Harper says seriously and drains the water in the sink. “I have to catch up your new secretary on your schedule and then settle in at my new desk.” She wiped her hands dry with the dish cloth hanging on the hook. Then she easily puts away the clean dried dished before going to sit

“Come here,” Oliver murmured, reaching out to pull Harper up from the floor and onto his lap again. “God, you look incredible down there,” Oliver rasped, voice thick with desire. “Keep looking at me like that while you do it.” His hips lifted slightly off the leather chair to give Harper easier access to the buckle, the movement involuntary as his body responded eagerly to her submission. “So yes, everything is ‘cool’. Provided you keep your personal opinions about staffing decisions to yourself.” Oliver said with a softened tone. “Alright,” Marius said casually and sighs. “You okay, you seem… a little emotionally charged, compared to normal.” Marius observed accurately.
