Mira’s P.O.V

The silence after the call was louder than I expected. Denise’s voice still lingered in my ears, threaded with warmth, the kind of warmth I hadn’t felt in months. I sat there for a long time, clutching the phone against my chest, listening to the faint hum of the mansion’s electricity, the low sigh of the wind pressing against the windows.

My stomach shifted beneath my hand, the baby’s movements insistent, almost restless—as though echoing my own emotions. I whispered, more to myself than anyone, “She’s still here. I’m not completely lost.”

But the house didn’t echo back. It never did.

I forced myself to stand, sliding the phone into the folds of my robe before moving across the room. The wooden floor was cool beneath my bare feet, and I felt every creak as though the house itself were listening. The curtains swayed faintly from the open window, carrying in the faint smell of wet stone and soil.

Mira's P.O.VDawn came quietly—soft, gray, and heavy with mist. The world outside our small hut was drenched in dew, the ground still damp from the storm that had passed. I could hear the faint chirping of birds somewhere beyond the trees, a sound that used to mean peace. But now, it only reminded me how fleeting it was.Luca was awake when I opened my eyes. He sat at the edge of the cot, half-dressed, the bandages around his torso freshly tied. His movements were slow, careful—but stubborn, as always.“Morning,” I whispered, sitting up.He turned, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly. “You didn’t wake me.”“You needed the rest.”“I’ve had enough of resting,” he muttered, though the faint wince on his face betrayed him.I sighed and stood, picking up Alina, who was just beginning to stir in her blanket. Her small yawn was the only soft thing in the room. I pressed a kiss to her forehead. “She slept well,” I said qu

Mira’s P.O.V The night was quiet except for the rhythmic sound of rainwater dripping from the roof. The storm had finally passed, but its ghost lingered in the damp air, in the soft rustle of leaves outside the small hut, and in the hollow thump of my heartbeat that still hadn’t slowed since everything happened. Luca was lying on the cot beside the window, his chest rising and falling in slow, uneven breaths. His face was pale beneath the flickering lamplight, his lips dry, his lashes dark against his skin. He looked fragile—too fragile for the man who had once commanded men with a single word, who had once walked through danger as if he was invincible. But he was alive. And that was enough for now. Alina was curled up against my chest, fast asleep. Her soft breaths tickled my collarbone, her tiny fingers still clutching the edge of my shirt. She’d cried herself to sleep earlier, maybe sensing the tension tha

Mira’s P.O.VThe storm had died down by dawn, leaving the forest wrapped in an eerie stillness. The ground was soaked, and the air hung heavy with the scent of blood, rain, and smoke. I knelt beside Luca, my hands pressed desperately against his wound, whispering prayers that felt more like broken pleas.“Stay with me, Luca… please.”His skin was cold, pale beneath the streaks of mud and blood. I could feel the faint rhythm of his heartbeat beneath my palms—weak, but still there. Alina whimpered softly in her blanket beside me, her big brown eyes watching as if she understood that something was terribly wrong.I forced my shaking hands to move. I tore the hem of my shirt, wrapping it tightly around his wound, ignoring the sting in my own arms. My knees ached against the wet ground, but I didn’t care. All I could think about was keeping him alive.“Come on,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “You promised me forever, remember?”He

Mira's P.O.VThe night was colder than usual. Even with the thick blanket wrapped around me, I could still feel the chill seeping through my skin. The sound of the rain tapping against the window was soft, steady—almost calming. But my heart wasn’t. It was loud. Uneasy. Restless.Alina had just fallen asleep. Her tiny fingers were curled tightly around the edge of her blanket, her lips slightly parted as she breathed in that soft rhythm only babies had. I brushed a strand of hair away from her face and smiled faintly. She looked so peaceful—so unaware of the chaos that constantly surrounded her parents.I turned my head toward the window. The reflection of the lightning illuminated the entire room for a brief second, and I caught my own image—tired eyes, sleepless nights, and the quiet strength of a woman trying to hold it all together.Luca wasn’t home yet. He’d left early that morning, saying something about a business emergency. But I

Mira’s P.O.VThe silence after the gunfire was deafening. It was the kind of stillness that made my skin crawl—too quiet, too unnatural, as if the forest itself was holding its breath. I clutched Alina tighter, her soft, rhythmic breathing grounding me as I crouched behind the cold rock. My entire body trembled, not from the chill, but from fear of what I might see—or not see—when I stepped out.Alina stirred in my arms, her tiny fist brushing my chin. She was half a year old now—six months of stolen peace, of learning her laugh, her cry, her small ways of reaching for her father every morning. Six months of Luca promising we’d make it through, no matter what. And now he was gone into the night again.I waited a few minutes more, every second stretching like an eternity. The smell of gunpowder and wet earth hung heavy in the air. When the rain started again, soft and hesitant, I finally forced myself to move.“Stay quiet, baby,” I whisper

Mira’s P.O.VThe rain had quieted to a soft drizzle by the time we reached the cave. My hands shook as I held Alina closer to my chest, wrapping her in what little warmth I had left. The storm had taken everything from us—our strength, our safety, even the illusion of peace we once clung to. But somehow, we were still alive.Luca stumbled behind me, his face pale, his wound bleeding through the soaked bandage. “It’s clear,” he muttered, scanning the trees. “No sign of movement.”I could barely hear him through the pounding in my ears. Every sound—the rustle of leaves, the faint cry of the river behind us—felt like danger waiting to strike. Still, we had no choice but to move forward.Inside the cave, it was cold and dark, the air thick with moisture. The uneven walls glistened faintly, reflecting the weak light from the cloudy sky outside. I found a flat stone near the back and gently laid Alina there, wrapping her tighter in the blanket. She stir
