KALOYAN'S POV

I stormed out of the woods. Lord Ezra struggled to keep up, but I was too busy burning down the path I walked with the anger coursing through me. He had sent another parcel. I felt like a mouse trapped in an enclosed space, sick and tired, but without a choice.

On the way to my study, my feet rooted to the ground all of a sudden. I couldn't move again. My eyes watered. I was still breathing fire, but my chest tightened as I stared at the little girl with Patricia's maid.

I looked away, watching the marble floors for a few seconds. Again, I raised my eyes to the duo at the far end of the hall. Her sobs gripped my heart and squeezed it with a clawed hand.

Lord Ezra said behind me, "My King? We should keep walking if we don't want to miss the Eastmoon annual fundraiser."

I tore my gaze away from the painful sight ahead, looking over my shoulder and blinking a few times. It took a minute for me to recall the fundraiser I began a while back.
