Chapter 13: The Student's Council

It was already eight at night and I decided to go to Dad's office to tell him about the mishap in me joining the volleyball team. My heart was thumping fast, and I was biting my bottom lip because of nervousness. I didn't know how he was going to react, but nevertheless, I felt the need to tell him.

I knocked on his office door, and when I heard him said "come in", I twisted the knob and entered his office. Closing the door behind me, I moved closer to Dad and settled on the seat in front of him. He was holding a pen, writing down on the paper while his attention was focused on it. He seemed to not mind my presence; he didn't stare at me, he just glanced.

After I cleared my throat, I uttered, "Dad, I have to tell you something."

"What is it?" he asked.

"I was—" I fumbled over my words, unsure of how I would say it, "I wasn't accepted in the volleyball team because the slots are already filled up." I
