OWEN'S POV

My grip on the wheel tightened. The car was quiet except for the road noise and Jamie singing along queitly to the music in the back seat. The ride was supposed to be peaceful. But nothing about this day was peaceful. Not after the court’s decision.

Alexis out on bail.

Those words made my gut twist.

I looked at Zoe. She sat with her hands clasped together. She stared out the window lost in thought. Her face was calm but I knew that face. I had studied it for a while and knew it by heart. This wasn’t calm. This was restraint. This was survival mode.

She was still afraid.

And it was clear she wouldn’t believe me no matter how many times I told her she was safe.

She shouldn’t have to.

“Hey, buddy,” I said, glancing at the rearview mirror where Jamie sat buckled in. “How was school today?”

Jamie beamed a little. “It was fun. We did painting and I made a card. For Mum.”

I looked at Zoe hoping that would help break through the wall she had put up. Her lips moved just enough to

  • RIGHTFULLY MINE    Who do I trust?

ZOE'S POV "Welcome back Zoe." Austin said as he opened the front door. His voice was calm. “It's great to have you home.”I walked in quietly, looking around like a stranger. Technically, I was. The air was fresh. The lights were warm and inviting. A vase of fresh lilies sat by the door and two staff members came forward.“Welcome home ma’am” they said together, smiling.I smiled and nodded. Home. It felt strange inside. The floor was made of marble. The space was beautiful. Everything was nicely arranged and I still didn't feel like I fit. Then I heard him.“Mommy!”Little feet came running down the stairs. A little boy—Jamie ran straight into my arms. Austin’s voice followed immediately behind, worried. “Jamie! Slow down. Mommy is not fully recovered.”I knelt down and hugged him tightly. I wasn’t concerned about being careful. Holding him felt like finding a missing part of myself. He held on tight, his breath on my cheek. He didn’t say a word,he just held on.I felt tears fallin

  • RIGHTFULLY MINE    The feeling of uncertainty

ZOE'S POV I looked up as the door opened. Austin stepped in and closed the door quietly. Something in his eyes changed. His smile was gone. He looked tense, eyes scanning the room. I sat up straight. “Is everything okay?” I asked carefully. “Did you see her? The woman from earlier?” He paused. Just for a heartbeat. But I caught it. “She looked so much like me” I said softly. Austin sighed deeply and sat down looking worn. “She looked like you,” he repeated, running a hand over his face. “Because she is… your twin sister.” I blinked. “My… what?” “Your twin,” he confirmed gently. “Her name is Chloe.” I got confused. A twin sister? Why hadn’t anyone mentioned her before? Why hadn’t she come in to see me if she was really my sister? “Why didn’t she come in?” I asked in a whisper. “She just stood at the door watching me…” Austin gritted his teeth again. He looked me in the eye. “Because you and Chloe… don’t exactly have the best relationship. We’ve all been through a lot because

  • RIGHTFULLY MINE    Damn you, Chloe.

CHLOE'S POV I saw it the second our eyes met.The way Zoe looked at me — like I was a flicker of something she couldn’t place. No recognition. Just... confusion. Like I was a stranger. And that’s when my heart dropped. She didn’t know me.It all started earlier today, when I left the mansion. I was barely halfway down the street, still reeling from what I’d just done — from telling Zoe the truth about Austin and watching her fly out the door like her life depended on it — when I saw him.Austin.His car sped past the cab I was in, tires screeching around the corner like a man possessed. I turned my head, instinct tightening in my gut. Something had happened. Something bad.I told the driver to follow him.I didn’t know where we were going — not until I saw the hospital. Panic stirred in my chest. Has something gone wrong? Was Zoe...?No. I shook it off. Not yet. I needed answers.I wasn’t stupid. I knew I couldn’t just walk in and demand to see my twin sister, especially with Austin

  • RIGHTFULLY MINE    A Blank Page

ZOE'S POV The room was darker when I woke up again. My panic had become a headache. When I woke up briefly earlier there was a man sitting beside me, he looked worried. He said he was Austin. The doctor also came in soon after. He asked me questions, shining a light in my eyes saying something about head injury and rest. Then I was left to sleep. But sleep hadn’t brought peace. It only made me feel emptier. Now I'm lying here trying to remember. Anything.Nothing came. Not my name. Not why I was here. Not the reason my hand was bandaged or my head felt like it had been cracked open and put back together. Everything felt… wrong. The door opened and I looked up.It was the man again—Austin. Same concerned eyes. Same calm voice. He smiled a little when he caught my eye.“You are awake now” he said quietly. “Good. Would you like to eat something now? You must be hungry.”I was silent. My mouth was dry and my throat hurt. I knew I had met him before. Not just here—maybe before the hospita

  • RIGHTFULLY MINE    Stranger in Her Eyes

AUSTIN’S POV“Who are you?” Zoe asked, looking confused. Those words hit me hard. I looked into Zoe’s confused eyes. She spoke softly but fear was in her voice. She didn’t recognize me. She looked at me oddly.I was speechless.“I… I’m Austin” I barely got the words out. “You’ve… you’ve been in an accident Zoe. But you’re safe now okay?”She just stared. No flicker of recognition. She didn’t look any softer. Her face was still blank. She was breathing hard as she looked around cautiously then back at me. Like she was looking for answers. Like she was trying to place me.Still nothing. She blinked and turned from me carefully.I pushed down my fear and stood up. My heart pounded. I couldn’t catch my breath This couldn’t be happening. Not after everything. Not now.“I’m going to get the doctor,” I told her quietly. She stayed silent. I walked out of the room and rested against wall. My fingers trembled. My thoughts spiraled. What’s going on? I kept asking myself. Why doesn’t she remem

  • RIGHTFULLY MINE    Lost in the wreckage

AUSTIN’S POV I burst through the hospital doors.I was still wearing my tie, jacket partly on and I don’t even remember the drive from the mansion. I couldn’t get Chloe’s words out of my mind. Zoe knows everything. She had left. She had run straight to the airport to stop Owen. But now she is in the hospital. The hospital doors closed after me and the outside world dissolved into chaos. The hospital air felt thick and sterile. I went straight to the nurses' station. My mouth felt dry with fear. The nurse saw the panic in my eyes. "Zoe Packer," I said breathlessly. "She was just brought in—a car crash. Where is she?"The nurse barely looked up, tapping quickly on her screen. “She’s in surgery. They took her in about fifteen minutes ago. You're her family?”“Yes.” I didn’t hesitate.“You can wait down the hall. Someone will come update you.”I nodded, already turning. I sat in the waiting room. I was wired and unable to sit still. She’s being operated on. This isn’t supposed to be li
