Pov: Asher

“Your tea, Alpha,” the steward said softly, setting the porcelain cup on the polished wooden table.

Asher nodded absently, glancing over the maps spread before him. “Thank you.”

The steward gave a brief bow and quietly exited the room. Ember was still with the council—he had only a few minutes of quiet. He exhaled and reached for the cup.

A knock.

“Come in,” he called, his fingers still brushing the cup’s rim.

The door creaked open. Julian stepped in slowly. His eyes were darker than usual, sleepless and unfocused.

“You look like hell,” Asher said, a flicker of concern in his tone.

Julian didn’t answer at first. He just stood there, staring at the tea, then at Asher.

“I—I needed to talk,” Julian finally said.

Asher leaned back. “Sit.”

Julian obeyed without hesitation. His hands fidgeted in his lap. “About what happened. With Lark. Eline.”

“You killed them,” Asher said, not coldly, not unkindly. Just truth.

“I didn’t want to,” Julian said quietly. “But I had to. Something i

POV: Aiden. The rain hammered against the grimy window of Aiden’s apartment, each drop a tiny explosion in the oppressive quiet. The city lights outside bled into a hazy smear of neon, casting jagged shadows across the peeling wallpaper. Aiden stood in the center of the room, his boots rooted to the warped hardwood, staring at the phone vibrating in his hand like it was a live grenade. He didn’t want to pick up. Not tonight. Not after everything. But he knew he had no choice. He pressed the phone to his ear, his voice rough, barely above a whisper. “Yeah?”“You failed, Aiden.” The voice on the other end sliced through the line, cold and precise, like a scalpel carving into flesh. It was deep, distorted just enough to mask any trace of humanity, but the venom was unmistakable. “Asher and Ember are still alive. You had one job—one simple job—and you couldn’t do it.”Aiden’s grip tightened on the phone, the plastic creaking under his fingers. He started pacing, his boots thudding against

Pov: Ember. The knock on the door came hard and fast—three sharp raps that startled Ember from her seat near the hearth. Asher was already standing, face tense, as he opened the door to find Saul waiting, breathless.“It’s Julian,” Saul said. “He’s trying to leave the Peak. With Rowan.”Ember was on her feet instantly. “What? Why now?”“He’s at the east road. Maren’s with him.”Asher didn’t hesitate. “Let’s go.”—The wind bit at their coats as they reached the tree-lined road just past the ridge. The moon was pale and high, casting long shadows across the dirt path. Ahead, they saw them—Julian holding Rowan’s carrier, Maren beside him, tense and pleading.“Julian!” Ember called. He turned slowly, eyes dull and distant. “It’s done,” he said. “I’m leaving. There’s nothing left for me here.”Asher stepped forward, voice low but urgent. “You’ve been poisoned, Julian. The tea. You drank it when you came to see me.”Julian’s eyes flickered. “You’re blaming tea for my choices now?”“Yes,”

Pov: Lark. The night air was sharp and still. Raven’s Peak, normally alive with quiet murmurs or the echo of distant howls, held its breath.Inside the cell block beneath the council’s main building, Lark sat chained, unmoved. The scent of mildew clung to the stone walls. He had stopped looking at the clock above the door—it no longer mattered. No one was coming. At least, that’s what he believed until the lights flickered once. Then again.Footsteps. Not the heavy, indifferent stride of a guard, but quick, precise steps. He tilted his head. The guards hadn’t noticed—too busy talking about the elections or playing cards behind the thick glass. Then a flash. Steel sliced through the air. One guard collapsed before he could scream. The other barely had time to draw his weapon before a blade entered his neck.Lark stood, eyes widening as Eline stepped out from the shadows, blood staining her gloves. She held up the keys.“Time to go.”He exhaled slowly, almost amused. “I didn’t think yo

Pov: Asher. The hallway was quiet when Asher stepped inside. Only the low creak of floorboards beneath his boots reminded him he wasn’t alone. Ember stood by the window, holding Caelen in her arms. The baby cooed softly, unaware of the weight settling over the room.Asher closed the door behind him and ran a hand through his hair.“You’re late,” Ember said without looking back.“I had to speak to Lark.”She finally turned, brows knitting together. “Again?”Asher nodded. “He’s not giving anything solid… but this time, it felt different. He said Aiden’s already here. In the Peak.”Ember’s eyes narrowed. “Here? As in—”“Among us,” Asher finished. “He said we’re surrounded by wolves in sheep’s clothing.”She shifted Caelen to her hip, visibly bristling. “That’s vague enough to drive anyone mad.”“I know. I asked for names. He wouldn’t give me one.”“Because he doesn’t have them. Or because he wants you paranoid.”“I’ve been thinking about it all the way home. We’ve been so focused on out

  • Alpha’s Claimed Mate.   CHAPTER 123: HEART OF THE PEAK.

Pov: Julian. The room was dim, lit only by the soft hum of the lamp in the corner. Julian sat on the edge of the bed, hunched over, his elbows on his knees and his hands buried in his hair. Rowan lay asleep behind him, barely a year old, bundled in a thick blanket and clutching a worn-out plush wolf. The silence was heavy, almost unnatural.Julian hadn’t slept in two nights.Maybe more. His eyes were red and dry, his chest tight like something inside him refused to let go."You let them kill me."The voice came soft, like a whisper just behind his ear.Julian froze."No," he said under his breath, not looking up. "You're not here.""You watched them do it. Watched them strip me of everything I was."His breathing grew shallow. He closed his eyes, tightly. “Stop.”He heard footsteps. Slow. Measured. Familiar. He opened his eyes.Vivianne stood in front of him—still elegant, still hauntingly beautiful, just like the last time he saw her. But her eyes were cold, glassy. Her skin was pal
