Chapter 4: Necro

The last thing I felt was like falling from the sky and landed in some weird place. But then again, it was just a dream. Somehow I felt like I regained my consciousness, and I tried to open my eyes.

When my eyes are opened, I slightly lifted my head and looked around and noticed that I am lying on a floor in an old building that is pretty wrecked. I tried to stand up and to look around closely, and I noticed that I am somewhere on the top floor of a building. Probably on the seventh or eighth floor of the building, I don't know, I'm not sure.

There's nothing unusual except for two things: One is that I really am in the body of myself when I was a teenager, and second is the sound I hear from afar. It's a deafening sound, proving that there are more humans in this world.

'I wonder how am I supposed to start?'

I started walking around to find a way down. I slowly traversed the messy and dusty surroundings of this abandoned office. Then suddenly I heard a loud sound. It's not a sound that comes from afar, but it felt like the sound comes from something or someone close to me. That sound made my heart beat very fast, and sweat started to build on my forehead.

It's just a sound, but my instincts are telling me that something dangerous is nearing me. My whole body is shaking and freezing, but I tried to pull out all the courage that's left of me and blurted, "Who is that?"

Suddenly the noise disappeared, so I took a deep breath and tried to ignore what happened while staying on guard, and went back to what I was doing, finding a way to go down from this building.

But after a few minutes...

That strange noise pitched up again, but this time, it's louder. "Who's that?" I groaned with a louder sound while trembling and finding anything I could hold to defend myself when necessary.

The noise I had heard earlier kept coming. But this time, it's much louder as if it's getting closer.

I want to run and leave, but I don't know how and where.

I tried peeking in a massive hole in the building wall, but my soul almost fell over due to the height of where I'm standing.

'So what now?'

I looked again here and there finding the noise source, then I noticed something peculiar, a viscous liquid slowly rising and forming into something. This strange thing appeared in front of the huge hole, covering the only source of light this place has, and hence, everything got darker. I stepped my feet backward slowly and steadily until I reached a wall, and I could not back down any longer.

Suddenly...

'The hell? It turned into a humanoid figure!'

The seemingly strange liquid earlier turned into a creature, I cannot explain his appearance correctly, but it is black all throughout. It seems to be a bit grotesque, a human with disfigured head, hands, and feet, I estimated it was 6 feet tall and looks extremely dangerous.

I picked up anything close to me and tried to throw it to that thing, but to my shock, it didn't even flinch a bit and the things that I threw just passed right into it.

Fuck! I can't think clearly if this thing is just a human being. I very much know how to defend myself, but this is not the case! This is an unknown creature! If I get close, I'll probably die.

This creature is getting closer and closer to me. While here I am, helplessly throwing random things to it, but it really had no effect. "Fuck you! Go away! You shitty dickhead!" I cried as I keep pushing myself behind a wall as if it'll do anything.

I just closed my eyes as I felt this creature approaching me, it would be futile to struggle, and it would be easier to accept that this life of mine has ended abruptly.

'Tsk! How unfortunate. '

Aurken's POV

"Aurken! Where are you going?" Blae shouted from afar. She's the vice-captain of this raid.

"Don't mind me!" I shouted. "I saw someone there in the building. I'll check it first."

We lack enough men in this district, so at any cost, we have to find people. After all, it is for the survival of us all.

I started running towards the building where I saw the man. As I got closer and closer, I gradually heard a familiar sound. We hunters both love and hate to hear.

'A Kuishinbo'

Damn it! I accelerated my pace to the sound source, and it led me to an abandoned building. I looked up in a large damaged hole in a wall on the seventh floor of the building and saw a person being driven into a corner by a kuishinbo.

I immediately rushed and climbed up to save the person, but is it too late?

*****

"Good thing you saw him right away." Dr. Quazano said as he sat beside me.

"Ah yes, a few seconds late, he could have been devoured. Good thing I got there on time." I smiled and let out a deep sigh. "But is he alright, sir?" I asked as I stared at a young man in front of me.

"Ah yes, he's just fine, probably he just passed out because of fear." He stared at the guy with a blank expression. But after a while. he shifted his gaze upon me and said, "Anyway, do you plan to include him in the Marauders?"

"Of course, I know he's too young for this, but the younger you train, the better right? We need a new person-"

He cut my words and said, "He is necroless."

"What do you mean?"

"I examined his entire body, not a single necro found."

"So what does it mean?"

"I don't know." He stopped for a moment. "But this is the first time."

"We can be reborn because of the necro, right? Then how can he be reborn if he does not one? Besides, it's impossible to survive this world without that, right?"

"That would be partially true, but we aren't even sure if he was reborn, but that's how it is." He started the explanation. "We have an element we call quark. Quarks are like cells. Cells are the basic building blocks of a human body, while quarks are the basic building blocks of souls. However, due to some mysterious phenomena that happened centuries ago, the so-called strange quark was formed, which in turn formed into a particular matter that became what we know today as kuishinbo. Kuishinbo is made up of strange quarks without a soul inhabitant or simply a quark for it to combine with.  Strange quarks when combined with a regular quark became what we know today as a necro. Necros affect one's soul power, and soul power affects one's physical and physiological ability, which basically means, the more necro you have, the stronger you will be."

I nod to what he said as if I understand what he says. "I don't really understand all the stuffs you're saying, doctor," I replied with my head bowed down.

Of course, how can I understand this shit. Only well-known people are given a chance to learn the truth behind the necro. I'm not really into this shit, but, on a second thought, understanding the basic concept of necros may help me become stronger.

"I understand, so I'll explain it to you. The strength of a soul is identified with the number of quarks it has. However, even if you have a strong soul, or so to say, large numbers of quarks,  it won't amount much when these quarks of yours are not combined with a strange quark which forms necro."

"I see," I nodded in response. I now slowly understand this somehow complicated concept.

"Remember that a part of training your necro is the training of the soul, right? You need to cultivate and meditate your soul so that you could freely control or even increase your necro."

"So, what does this have to do with that guy?" I asked. I don't know that quark stuff. The only thing I know is that necro is our source of power, and that means everything in this world.

"Let me explain it furthermore, there are two common types of reborn, the first type is being reborn as an infant from a virgin mother, the other one is reborn as they were in their past life. Those kinds of reports have little to an average amount of necros" He looked at me. "Are you? You've been reborn as a newborn child, right?"

"Yes, because I am a first-class reborn, so I guess I have average?" I scratched my head because I am quite unsure. "And I can't afford to purchase any necro enhancer or cultivate anything to enhance my soul power, so let's leave it like that." I giggled.

"Yes, however, there is also another type of reborn, which are very rare."

I remained silent and listened to everything he said.

"This type produces reborn with massive amounts of necros in their body. In this case, one is being reborn with half of their actual age. I only knew five people being reborn like this; the first one is Reeve Giraudus."

"What the? Reeve Giraudus? The Vasilia?" The Vasilia, Vasillia means 'king' Reeve Giraudus is the king of the new world, the strongest reborn ever lived.

"Yes, the reason for his immense power is his ability to control the excessive amount of necros present in his body."

"I don't get it. What kind of connection are you saying to the patient's situation." I insist.

"Too hasty Aurken, I just gave you an overview for you to understand the third type I mentioned. In the process of being reborn with half of one's actual age, it can drain one's necro if the necro of a reborn is not enough. This is why reborns of this class are extremely talented considering just the fact that they were able to provide the necessary amount of necro in their reborn state, which means they have massive amounts of necro. "

I don't even know that necro, but I understand what he is saying. "So basically, what you're trying to say, doc is-"

He cut me off again. "Yes, there's a huge possibility that what you brought here was a third-class reborn that ran out of necro during the reborn state." He stopped for a moment. "However, it's just a theory. This is the first time this has happened, so I can't conclude yet."

"We'll know that when he wakes up, so let's just wait." I nod at what he said and said, "Yes."
