LOGINADIRA'S POV
For the next couple of days I continued to face pressure from Grandpa Alan. Just like in my past life, he was still the only one that wanted me here. And he was more determined this time. But I had already had it up to my neck, and I was determined to leave today. I picked only the important things I needed and Lumina's things too. “Where are you going with those things?” I heard Ryder ask behind me as I made my way down the hallway. “Just act like you didn't see me like you always do and continue on your way.” I gritted out and continued on my way. He walked briskly with purposeful strides, cutting me off and positioning himself to block my path. “You won't leave with my daughter!” His voice boomed with authority. I scoffed. The only way to get a reaction out of him was if it concerned Lumina. The little girl slept peacefully in the stroller. I snorted, “How can you hate the mother of your child but love the child she gave birth to? That sounds like hypocrisy to me.” “You may have birthed an angel like Lumina, but that doesn't change the fact that you are a devil.” He spat. My eyebrows furrowed. “That's rich coming from you. So we both had a one-night stand, which was a drunken mistake, but I am the devil, and you are the saint?” I chuckled. “Well, I do not intend to exchange words with you. I only have one question for you. Do you really care about Lumina? Because if you did, you wouldn't want to take a child less than 2 years from her mother.” I said to him. I knew he loved Lumina too much to do that. And truly his eyes immediately softened. “I am leaving this pack, so leave my way.” I nudged him out of my way, and he stood and watched me leave. Everyone I passed stopped to look at me as I made my way to the border. I didn't care to look at them. They weren't worth my time. “You can't leave Luna.” The border warriors blocked my path just as I got to the border. “Since when did I become a prisoner in my own pack?” I asked. “I am sorry, Luna; we are acting on orders.” The leader replied. “And who gave this order?” I asked “Grandpa Alan. You can leave alone, but you cannot leave with Lumina.” He replied. “He went this far?” I yelled angrily. “Well, I am Luna of this pack, and I order you to leave my path immediately!” I growled. My wolf was ready to make a scene. We were done dealing with this rubbish. The warriors shared a worried look. I could see the confusion in their eyes. They couldn't disobey Grandpa Alan, but they also didn't want to disobey me. “Don't put them through that torture.” A voice said behind me. I turned around to see Beta Atlas walking towards us. He was one of the few people that had treated me well in my past life. “You know they are working on instructions, and they also do not want to disobey you. Don’t put them in an awkward situation.” He said. “I need to leave.” I said to him, ignoring everything he had just said. “You guys can go. Give us some privacy,” he said to them. The warriors immediately dispersed, going back to their positions. “Don’t do this…” he said quietly. “I know you want to leave, and I understand why you want to leave.” He said softly. “But this will end badly if you do. No matter what you say or do, Lumina remains the daughter of Alpha Ryder and currently the next in line. You cannot take her away from this pack unless you want to start a war. Sorry to say this, but you need to hear it. Alpha Ryder rejected you but not his child. So Lumina’s title is unquestioned. If you do not tread cautiously, her safety may be jeopardised.” He said. I hated that he was right. Everything he said was correct. I breathed out heavily, hating the whole situation. He looked at me with pity and concern. “You will have to find another way to deal with this issue. Just think about it.” He said so and walked away. I reluctantly returned to the house. After laying Lumina in her bed, I sat by the window and just thought about everything. Everything Beta Atlas said was right. I couldn't jeopardise Lumina's safety, and neither can I end the peace between the two packs. If I return home, my parents will want to fight for me, and that will only bring about war and enmity between the two neighbouring packs. But staying here, we will only end up dead too. My breath suddenly caught in my throat. From where I sat, I could see the area that the secret safe house is located in. The memories of that unforgettable day started to rush into my mind. My heart constricted, and it suddenly felt like there was no air in the room. I could smell the smoke, the burning flesh, and Lumina's cries. “Breathe, Adira! It's not real!” My wolf yelled in my mind. “It's not real.” I muttered continuously, and my eyes began to clear. I took a deep breath, filling my lungs with air. My eyes were still glued to that spot. “It's strange…” I said to my wolf. “What is?” She asked. “The fact that we were the only ones that were burnt to death that day. Now that I think about it, the rogues knew the location and code to the lock of the safe house, which is supposed to be top secret. And when they entered, they came straight for us, dragged us out and set us on fire. I can still vaguely remember that they left after they watched us burn for a while.” “It's almost like they specifically came for us…” She muttered with a deep scowl. “It's not almost… I think someone wanted us dead. Whoever it was gave them the location of the safe house and also the code to the lock. That is the only reasonable answer.” “Our deaths were premeditated!” she yelled as it finally clicked. “Yes… and whoever planned it is in this pack. Even if we leave now, our safety is not guaranteed. Actually, the only way to survive is to remain here and find the person. That is the only way to keep Lumina safe.” I muttered, my eyebrows furrowed together in deep thoughts. “You are right; we can't keep running and hiding. It's time to chase rather than be chased. We have the advantage of knowing the future; if we utilise it well, we will definitely find the person or persons.” She said, “Right. We are going to stay, but this time on our own terms.” I said to her, After that I left to see Grandpa Alan. “What are you doing here?” He asked as soon as he saw me. “You made me a hostage in your pack.” I said to him as I took a seat. He readjusted his glasses. “This is your pack too. You don't have to be a hostage.” He replied. “Well, I have something to say. But I intend to say it in front of Mrs Willow and Ryder.” He watched me closely for a few seconds “okay.” He replied.ADIRA’S POVThe council square was filled before sunrise. Warriors lined the perimeter. Elders stood on raised platforms. Every pack member from both Crescent-End and Silvercrest gathered to witness the trial. The air held a charge, a mixture of fury, betrayal, and anticipation. The three traitors stood chained in the center. Atlas looked hollow and defeated but not scared. Scarlett’s father trembled under the weight of public disgust. For a man that tried to kill people, he was truly scared of death. Grandpa Alan stood still, chin raised, refusing to bow even now. But one thing they all had in common was the bloody clothes, torn lips, bloody eyes, and missing fingers. They had refused to confess, but Jackson made sure they did. He had spared us the pain of having to do the interrogation ourselves, and he had done a good job.The matter was so huge and too serious that the entire alpha council had to get involved. They appointed the eldest alpha to be the head of the trial, and today
ADIRA’S POVThe council hall had never felt this heavy. Every elder seat was filled. Two packs sat opposite each other. My father’s pack on the right, and my pack on the left. Voices murmured low, confused, and uneasy. No one understood why I had called for an emergency joint meeting at dawn, and I did not offer an explanation.Ryder stood beside me, tense. He kept glancing my way, looking for answers I was not yet ready to give. He had insisted on knowing why I wanted to call a meeting, but all I could tell him at the time was that he would find out at the meeting and that it was important to have the meeting for Lumina’s sake. Scarlett’s father entered, shoulders squared, pretending confidence. Atlas came in next, eyes darting nervously around the hall. And then Grandpa Alan walked in with his cane, calm, composed, the picture of respected authority. But even though he was calm, I could see the questions swirling in his eyes. I was certain that a part of him wondered if this was ab
ADIRA’S POVWhen I got home that night, Ryder was at the door waiting. The moment I walked in, he pulled me by the hand into the storage room.“What is going on?” I asked, looking at him skeptically. He stared back at me, his eyes filled with something I could not explain. I shifted back a bit, feeling uncomfortable under his piercing gaze.“Where have you been? And what have you been doing?” he asked in a gruff voice.I cleared my throat and looked away from his piercing gaze. I knew there was no way I was going to tell him about everything that had happened.“I was with Lyra. We had some things to discuss,” I replied. His eyebrows raised. “You left immediately after we got down from the car, and you are just returning home. Do you know how many hours it has been? Lumina asked of you so many times, but I could not reach you on the phone or through the mindlink. I had to get her to sleep after trying everything I could.”I bent my head as a wave of sadness hit me.“And the only thing
ADIRA’S POV“I saw it happen…” she said in a small voice, barely above a whisper. The room felt smaller than it had moments ago.The walls that had once been my refuge now pressed in on me. The air was thick and heavy. My pulse still had not steadied from everything we had heard in the forest, and yet here I was hearing more.Lyra stood across from me, silent. Watching.“You were there?” I asked again, my voice barely above a whisper. “The night of the fire?”Her fingers tightened around the edge of the table.“Yes.”The single word landed like a stone in my chest. My mind reeled. Flames. Smoke. The smell of burning wood and flesh, Lumina’s cry, and darkness.“You pulled the ring from the ashes,” I said slowly, trying to piece it together. “Which means you arrived after…”“Yes, after you were already gone. But the truth is, I wouldn't have been able to do anything even if I got there early,” she finished quietly.Silence stretched between us.I studied her face carefully. There was no
ADIRA’S POVWe followed at a distance. Atlas moved confidently through the southern exit, cloaked in darkness. He did not look like a man doing something shameful. He looked like a man accustomed to secrets. He suddenly slowed down, quickly came to a stop, and swung around. It was a close call, but Lyra and I were able to dodge behind a tree just before he could see us.He stood for some seconds and took a few steps, walking backwards. My heart pounded. “Has he noticed us?” I thought to myself. He took a few more steps, and I couldn't help but shrink myself even further. After a few seconds he finally turned around and walked away. I let out a slow exhale and didn't move until I was certain it was safe to do so.Lyra and I kept low and silent. The forest swallowed us whole. He walked for nearly twenty minutes before reaching an abandoned stone structure a bit far from the border. I never knew such a place existed so close to the pack.Lyra and I stopped at a safe distance, close enoug
ADIRA'S POVThe moment the car stopped in the pack, I immediately jumped down."Hey, where are you hurrying off to?” Ryder asked quickly.“There is something I need to do. I will meet you up at the office soon.” I replied without stopping.I could see the flash of disappointment in his eyes, but that didn't stop me. I quickly made my way to the secret room that I used for my meetings. I need some time to myself to think.“There was an agreement back then, and it is still standing till now. If he has found another way to get what he wants, then he will still help me get what I want. That was the only reason I did what I did back then. He made the proposals back then, and I had to convince my daughter and everyone involved. Stability has to be maintained. If not, then we will all lose what we are looking for.”The words of Scarlet's father echoed in my mind."There were proposals back then. Merging territories through marriage would have secured you then, but you gave it up for a bigger
RYDER’S POVThe meeting hall was already filling when Adira walked in. My eyes followed her as she entered. I was really worried about her. Something was going on, and she was not telling me about it.Yesterday, I was in a serious panic. I had felt the strain, exhaustion, and fear through our link,
ADIRA'S POVFollowing my decision that morning, I left the office and made my way to the elders' wing. I had slipped out of the office before Ryder would notice.Sincerely, I was glad that he had been trying to find answers to the masquerade issue even though he did not tell me about it. It helped
ADIRA'S POVSilence reigned in the sitting room for a while. Everyone looked at each other, each person having a different thought in mind.Ryder's eyebrows raised after a while. “What are you talking about, Grandpa? What did she find out? Say something,” he said impatiently.“About your first nigh
RYDER'S POVI left the room quietly and went back to mine. I slumped onto the bed and lowered my head into my palm.I felt irritated with myself, a feeling I had come to know too well since I realised how badly I had treated Lumina and Adira. I was not just irritated and disgusted with myself; I al
