The week went by with Lucy doing everything in her abilities to get me.
The training was becoming more of a death sentence. I knew they could all see that she was being unnecessarily hard on me, but because she was the soon-to-be Luna and I was nobody, it was ignored.
Every day, I went home with more injuries than the day before, and I was on the verge of giving up and even if I wanted to quit, I couldn’t. Everyone in the pack needed to undergo this particular training to be able to defend themselves and the pack in case anything happens in the future and we were attacked.
I grabbed my bag, ready to return to the pack house. My body was bleeding from several cuts and I needed to get it treated as soon as possible.
“Everest,” I heard suddenly and a groan fell off my lips.
Why does fate keep throwing her my way? Why can't I just go a whole day without having to deal with her?
“You're still bleeding? A regular wolf would have healed by now,” she said then paused dramatically, “Right! You're not even a wolf.”
Her minions laughed, even though there was really nothing about what she said. The line was old and garbage. It only affected me for the first few days but now, it was like the annoying buzz of a bug.
“Yes, I am bleeding,” I responded dryly. “But if you're going to mock me, at least come up with creative insults.”
I didn't expect my words to trigger any form of reaction but the chuckles and murmurings pissed her off.
I didn't give her the chance to react and scurried home.
It was a cowardly move but I didn't have the physical strength to challenge her. She would beat me to a pulp, and that would unlock an advanced level of bullying.
I wasn't mentally prepared for any of that. Besides, I was still coming to terms with the fact that I was wolfless and my mate didn't want me.
On returning to my room, I took a long bath, occasionally hissing in pain as the water soaked me in. I didn't have a bandage so I had to tie a cloth around the injuries to prevent exposure.
Deciding I could use some rest even if it would cost me later, I shut my eyes and let myself drift off.
I was woken up by banging. The thing that crossed my mind was that my mistress was back with her troubles.
I got off the bed quickly and hurried to the door. I opened it and the guards pushed past me immediately.
What is going on?
Alpha Levi was here too, and he wasn't even sparing me a glance, but I decided to ask him nonetheless as the guards overturned my little room.
“Alpha…” I acknowledged slowly. “Is something the matter?”
“Someone broke into the pack’s Treasury. Some important pack documents are missing along with the royal seal so every room is being searched,” he responded to me.
“Oh, okay.”
I stepped back and watched them conduct their search. I knew nothing about the pack documents or the royal seal. Besides, I wasn't even allowed near the Alpha's quarters, not talk of the Treasury.
Lucy suddenly showed up out of nowhere and clung to the Alpha's arm as if to remind me of my place.
I looked away, focusing my mind on something else. I could get used to the insults but watching my mate be with someone else was a hard adjustment.
“Any progress?” She asked him.
“None yet, but this is the last room,” Alpha Levi responded.
“Then we will find it here.” Lucy's words made my head snap to her.
What was that supposed to mean?
“I wouldn't put it past a wolfless rejected outcast like her to steal from us. It might even be her payback plan. Who knows? She might be planning to run away even,” Lucy said, casting me a condescending look.
“I didn't steal anything!” I defended myself.
“Like I said, who knows?” She smirked.
“We found them!” I heard suddenly and my heart stopped.
What does he mean by ‘we found’ them?
To my greatest surprise, they brought out a small bag which I knew didn't belong to me and emptied it.
The documents fell out along with the seal and a single key.
Levi's gaze was laced with anger. He was so furious that I backed away in fear.
“I swear I don't know how that got in there. Someone must have put it there! It wasn't me, I swear…” I pleaded but my words only seemed to anger him more.
“How. Dare. You.” He growled and I staggered backwards as his alpha’s aura filled the room..
“I didn't do it, Alpha… I swear on everything, please… I don't know how it got there…” I could feel my chest closing up as it became difficult to breathe.
“Enough!” He barked. “Do I look like a fool to you?!”
Tears were already building up in my eyes. Being wolfless and losing him was nothing compared to this. Then, all I had to lose was my respect but theft?
If it was going to cost me my head if things blew out of proportion. The royal seal was one of the most sacred items in the pack and the documents in the treasury were classified.
If it got into the wrong hands then we were doomed, which is why there were murderous gazes on me now.
“I didn't do it please…” I sobbed.
“I always knew there was something off about her!” Lucy fueled the fire. “She has always been useless to this pack in everything…. And now we know it had all been on purpose! She is an enemy trying to aid our rivals!”
“No! No! That's not true…” I cried. “I don't know anyone outside this pack. Please believe me….”
“Arrest her!” Levi ordered. “Throw her in the darkest dungeons with no food or water until we decide what to do with her.”
Sophia's POV There was a ringing in my ears as I winced in pain. I slowly opened my eyes which seemed too heavy to be normal. The ground was cold and there was only one source of light where I was. Ah, that's right, I was arrested on Levi's orders due to Lucy's false accusations. “Hey! Wake up!” One of the soldiers watching over my cell banged hard against the bars as he yelled. “You better not be dead,” he spat. I couldn't blame the soldiers given how they were one of the lowest ranking soldiers so they'd surely derive pleasure by preying on the weak. “Ugh, h-how many days has it been?” I mustered the strength to speak, raising my head slightly. “Pfft, like we're obligated to tell you that,” the same soldier who had been cussing at me scoffed. “It's enough. There's no harm in telling her,” another soldier intervened. “Tch. You've been in prison for a week now and you've been asleep for three days straight. We thought you had died since you've been
Sophia's POVI wandered through the forest nearly lifelessly - not that I was beaten up or anything like that but the thought of how my life would turn out from this point in time scared me. Alpha Levi had instructed his right-hand man to give me essentials to survive for a few days, alongside money and a horse.I galloped through the dense forest on the horse which I was given. The wind whispered through the trees, and the sunlight filtered through the leaves - I had never felt this empty in my life. I bit my lower lip as I held back my emotions. As much as I wanted to cry and vent out my frustrations, I couldn't because I needed to be on high alert. I could be attacked by lone wolves or rogue wolves. There was no way I could fight them off since I was basically human.I, of course, was a werewolf but a werewolf without her wolf was basically useless. The best option for me now was to find a secured place to reside.I have been riding for days and weeks now while resting at any point
Sophia's POV I ended up crying myself to sleep that night. The next morning, my eyes felt heavy and swollen which was obviously due to all that crying. “Where should we head next?” I talked to Sasha like she had the ability to respond to me. She simply neighed. We had gone to all the packs around begging them to take me in but I guess, no one wants to take in a supposed thief and traitor. “We really need to find a pack that will accept us. Moving in the forest like this is quite dangerous, we're lucky not to have run into any rogue wolves or lone wolves,” I sighed, not knowing whether to be relieved or not. I took my bath inside a nearby stream. I needed to reduce the swelling in my eyes and to also cool off myself. Getting out of the water and putting on my clothes, I patted Sasha who had been waiting patiently for me. “Sorry for keeping you waiting, let's…” I paused the moment my ears picked up the sound of a twig breaking. Someone or something was here
Sophia's POV I followed Troy to the human world as I had nowhere else to go. I wasn't sure if Troy was trustworthy or not but for now, I was nearly sure he had no reason to make any stupid moves. Far from the werewolf world, distanced from the untamed part of the forest enclosed by large walls lay a vast prosperous land where humans thrived. We were still at a distance but I could see how different our worlds were. The human world seemed more advanced than the werewolf world from the buildings to the outlook. “We're here. Welcome to the largest booming city in the human world - Briston,” he proudly presented. “Wow,” I gasped in awe. My eyes sparkling from beholding the sight. “Home sweet home, if I must say,” he giggled before leading the way. Troy explained that Briston was known for its beauty and its stable economy among other human segmented regions called cities. Their economy, prosperity and population made them stand out. “Do you guys have societies a
His expression of frustration was really hilarious, laughter bubbled inside me, but I held back from laughing out loud.“You expect me to answer that?”“Whatever!” He snapped before he spun around and began to stump away. I sucked my lips into my mouth to stop myself from laughing at his reaction. I thought he would stop, but he continuously stomped away, I had no choice but to run after him or tried to anyway.“Hey, slow down!” I yelled as I jogged to catch up. I was already exhausted from walking in the forest for days without eating properly or having enough rest. How and where would I get the energy to run after him?“No one asked you to have short legs! Keep up or be left behind!” He yelled back.Oh, dear moon goddess! I felt like strangling him for not only calling me short, but for making me run after him. “Funny how you are calling my legs short when you are not so tall yourself,”“Yeah, yeah, keep giving yourself hope that we are the same height, shorty,” but even as he sa

It’s been a week and five days since I decided to allow my instincts to guide me and follow a strange man, Troy, home and I do not regret it.Troy might look younger than he actually was, and he might act like a five year old with his tantrums and stomping around when he did not get his way, but he was a good man; he treated me like his sister and friend. After that first night, he let me sleep on his bed while he slept on the three seater couch. I tried to make him sleep in his bed because I could not come into his house and snatch his bed, but he refused. He told me he knew that I needed to lay on something soft after days in the woods. His careful consideration brought tears to my eyes. This stranger treated me the first day he met me better than I’ve been treated by my own people all my life.I later told him that his bed was large enough so we could sleep on it together still, he refused and while I was still talking, he proceeded to lay on the chair and give me his back.Even w
“So you are never going to show me your wolf or tell me the reason you got banished?” Troy asked me.I kept my head down as I continued to walk beside him deep into the forest. We always did this, take walks in the forest. Troy did it because he was looking for more supernatural creatures, while I did it because I felt the need to be with him and also because I was a werewolf. We loved nature more than anything and this was one of the reasons our land was not as developed as the humans. I love the gentle breeze in the forest and the peace and quiet that could not be associated with the big city where Troy lives. It’s been exactly one month since Troy found me in this same forest and took me with him to his house and changed my life.He always asked to see my wolf, but I refused. It was not because I did not want to show him my wolf, but because I obviously did not have a wolf that I could show him. I did not know how I was supposed to tell him.He thinks I am a werewolf. I was scared
We were all seated at the table and were supposed to have started eating but someone was missing. Eva was nowhere to be found and even after father asked a maid to go ask her to hurry up, Eva did not come down.“What’s going on with her? Is she okay?” Mother asked with a worried look on her face as she tried to stand up so that she could go and check on Eva.Simon stopped her from fully leaving her seat, “She is fine, mother. I’m sure she is turning her closet upside down and trying to look for the best gown to wear to welcome Sophia. I saw her this morning and she was really nervous,”“Oh?” Mother laughed and sat back on her chair. “Typical Eva, always trying to impress everyone and get them to like her. Why can’t she understand that Sophia is not a stranger but her sister?”There was nothing I could do. I did not know Eva so I could not go up to her and asked her to not bother trying to impress me. After all, like mother just said, we were family. I just sat there as we waited for E
I just knew that Simon felt awkward because of the way he stiffened when I hugged him and how long it took him to start patting my back and telling me that it was alright even if he did not what was making me weep.I cried for a long time until the stone in my chest melted away and I could breathe freely. I eased away from Simon and he let me go. Embarrassment flooded me when I sat back against the headboard and concentrated on his face.“I’m sorry about that,” I sniffed.“Oh, it is no trouble. It was just a little strange,”He looked like he was not going to ask why I suddenly began to cry while he was telling me our family history but I felt like telling him.“You know,” I started, “Like every other werewolf I was super excited and looking forward to my eighteenth birthday. My eighteenth birthday was last year, my wolf awakened but I could never transform. I was scared that I would be wolfless forever and it was something I wanted to tell father and mother but I was scared about how
I don’t know when I slept off but I woke up to the feeling of someone caressing my cheek and pushing my hair out of my face. The first person that came to mind was my mother but then my mother’s palms were softer while this one was tougher and this person did not in any way smell like my mother. I wanted to jump into a sitting position but my body felt too heavy. I could only open my eyes, blinking gently to adjust to the darkness as I slowly pushed myself into a sitting position. The stranger must have noticed that I was awake with all my movement because they took their hand back.“Hey, you are awake?” It was a deep voice and it belonged to a man. “You were having a nightmare when I came in, I was just trying to soothe you back to sleep. I didn't mean to wake you up.”I blinked as I tried to focus on him to see who he was. He did not sound scared that he had been caught. I wondered who he was that he could walk into my bedroom in the middle of the night without fear.“Who are you?”
My parents refused to tell me anything about our pack. They kept saying “you’ll see” whenever I asked them any questions pertaining to my lineage. According to them, they wanted me to see everything for myself. It was frustrating not knowing what I would see, but it made me excited all the same. I did not have many expectations either because I did not want to dream too high and get a broken back when I fall because my expectations were bigger than what I discovered. The maids and guards kept their distance from us and when they were near, they kept bowing to me and no matter how much I tried to stop them, it was all to no avail. My parents also discouraged me and asked that I do not stop them. They said I needed to get used to it because that’s how they will keep bowing to me for the rest of my life.Life was so strange. I spent all my life bowing to others and now, my life has changed and others are now bowing to me. I wish Joel were here with me. I wonder what he would say about al
“Sophia,” Troy called me a week later when we got back from the vineyard, and I was ready to go to sleep on the couch, “You know you can’t keep them here forever right? It is against the werewolf law for a werewolf to be in the human world, you told me so yourself.”I released a deep sigh as I sat up. I knew where this conversation was going. I’ve been avoiding it for a week now, but I knew that soon, I’ll have to have this conversation with him.“Sophia,” he called again as he came to drop into the space beside me on the couch. “Look at me,”I reluctantly turned to face him. “What?”“I know you think I will be mad if you leave but trust me, I won’t be mad. I won’t think that you discarded me because you’ve found your family because I knew from the start that you do not belong with me, you belong with your kind. I knew how much you craved for a real werewolf family of your own because being rogue was not what you wanted. Now that you have found your family, I am happy for you and I ho
How am I supposed to explain things to them in a way that they won’t start seeing me the way the members of gray pack saw me?They might accept me because I look like them but would my parents whom I knew were full-fledged werewolves accept that the daughter they’ve been looking for could not get her wolf and she was rejected by her mate and banished? In my excitement at having found them at long last, I seem to have forgotten that they would want to know about my life just like Troy when we first met. Why was I not given heads up so I could think up something?Would they accept me like this and try to find a solution or would they turn away? After all, they’ve lived their lives well without me for years. They could continue to go on without me because they would rather not become the laughingstock of their pack. They might leave me here since I was the same as humans and always come to check up on me because they did not want it to seem like they abandoned me after searching all thes
“I would really love to get to know the people that took care of my daughter all the years that I couldn’t.” My heart dropped to my stomach. My mother could not be introduced to my pack because I’ve been banished. I was nothing but a traitor to them. Though I wanted her to meet Joel who was one of the reasons I survived but that too was impossible. I wanted her to meet our old alpha, Levi’s father who found me at the pack’s border but he was dead. Something just have shown on my face because my mother said, “Ahh, Sophia, it is okay if you don’t want us to meet them. I understand that they see you as their child and you would not want them to feel anxious or anything. We won’t force you to do anything you don’t want to.”I shook my head to stop her, “It is not like I do not want type to meet them,” hell I don’t, “It is just that you cannot meet them,”“What do you mean?” My father asked.“What I mean is even if I want to introduce you to the one who found me, I cannot do that because
Those words she just spoke as she broke down in tears healed my trauma of eighteen years. I’ve always wondered if my parents were alive and if they were, have they tried to look for me, were they still looking for me or have they given up and concluded that I was dead since they lost me during the war?Everything she just said has closed the gap and answered that question. Their presence alone was enough to heal me.I did not have to ask anyone to know that these people standing right here were my parents. It was not just about the hair. It was about the feeling. Feeling of blossoming joy and peace suddenly enveloped me as I stood there frozen in shock as the woman, my mother cried and the man whom I was unsure of his identity tried his best to console her.Troy finally got control of himself and turned to look at me. His eyes were sparkling with joy and tears.“Sophia, your parents are here. They found you,” his voice was filled with wonder.I nodded, as tears filled my eyes, “I know
“No matter how we try to think about this whole thing, Levi or whatever the hell his name is, he is at fault! You are nothing but a servant in his pack and you have no resources to find out what the problem with you is. He should have helped but no, he chose the easy way out like a coward. I thought alphas were supposed to be smart and sensible? Why was he so stupid? You were bullied your whole life and he gave them more reason to stomp all over you.”“Uhhhm, Troy, I don’t think Levi knew that I was being bullied. He had enough on his plate already asthe alpha. He does not concern himself with lowly servants like myself.” Why was I even defending Levi, the man who ruined me completely? Wait? What was going on with me? I was angry and I hated Levi but after Troy said he only picked a woman who was fit to rule, I wanted to let go of my anger and take the whole blame for being a loser. “He did not know? Is he not the alpha? As alpha, is he not supposed to know everything that’s going
