Thane's pov

“I'm not nervous,” Andera murmured. “I am completely relaxed.” she blew out a deep breath. “See, fine.”

I swallowed down the laugh working its way out of me. “You're completely relaxed, hun? Is that why there's sweat on your face, even though the AC is on full blast?” I teased, my eyes crinkling at the corners.

Andera glared at me, but her face quickly softened when I pulled her in for a hug. “It's one dinner date with your father. How many things could go wrong?”

She mumbled something unintelligible, snuggling closer to me “A lot.”

Mr Campbell, Andera's father was in Seattle. I know he's not a big fan of mine, Andera had once subtly mentioned that, but despite his reservations, he didn't interfere in our lives- yet

“It will be fine, Love,” I assured her. Andera sighed, “How do you know that?”

My lips twitched into a small smug smile. “I know because I have my charm. It's impossible to dislike me for long. Look at you, you came around, and so will your father.”

ASHLEY'S P. O. V“I don't understand” I whispered. Genevieve blinked and glanced out my window, her eyes unfocused. My baby fluttered, this time more strongly, and I had to drag in a breath after another to calm my racing heart. My legs shook like twigs, and I lowered myself to the couch. “I don't understand,” I repeated, this time so quietly, it was almost inaudible.“I'm telling the truth, Ashley. My cancer's been back for months now,” she said as she dropped to my side on the couch. My fingers went numb, and a strange pressure rested on top of my chest, making it hard to drag in air. I raised my face to meet with hers, and my heart.... broke. We stared at each other, too full of emotions choking us to say anything.“Ho..how long?” I croaked out,“It's been four months since my Doctor saw more traces of the cancer” she admitted.I grabbed my throw pillow and tightened my fingers around it, the pressure in my heart intensified.Genevieve wasn't the best mother, but she was my mother

ASHLEY'S P.O.VThe tension in the car was so thick, I could feel it in the airI was seething, boiling inside me, memories from the last time we saw each other flooded my head, tears threatened to spill out of my eyes, but not tears of pain or sorrow, rather, tears of anger and bitterness.‘You have no other purpose,’ she screamed at me years ago. ‘Because of me, you're worth something.’ I could still hear Genevieve's voice in my head. I fisted my hands by my side, willing myself to go breathe calmly. I wouldn't put myself and my little girl under any form of stress, and definitely not because of Genevieve Cece Harrington.I focused on the street as she drove, purposefully not looking at her. Her car smelled like expensive perfume, money, and lies. But even as she drove, I couldn't help but think, why was she here, and why now? “A baby” Genevieve whispered so low, I wouldn't have caught what she said if I wasn't paying attention. I glanced at her, the way her brows were furrowed a

ASHELY'S P. O. VKellan couldn't find a way to come back into my life, so he invaded my dreamCorrection: dreams. Over and over. Multiple times at night, sometimes even during the day. Whenever I close my eyes, he's there. Everywhere.Besides me, sitting next to me, smiling at me. Inside me Deep inside me.I blinked away the growing surge of heat in my body. I couldn't think about that stuff here and not now. I shouldn't be thinking about him at all, so this recent behavior is very strange, which is why I'm here to see Doctor Liam today.I gently sat on the edge of the hospital bed, The room smelled faintly of disinfectant and antiseptics.I patted the curve of my belly, feeling the tiny flutter I've been experiencing for some days now, not quite yet a kick though, but it was evidence that my daughter was doing fine.Doctor Liam was attending to another patient. A pregnant woman too. She had been rushed in here by her husband because she was bleeding and Doctor Liam had to attend to

ASHLEY'S P.O.VI felt his breath on my neckHotBurning Scorching “Yes,” I whimpered, fisting the sheets by my side. “More.” His weight pressed me down, his fingers teasing the inside of my thigh, sweetly, slowly but not where I needed it. “You like that, love?” Kellan purred into my ears. My back arched and I managed a nod. It was dark in here, so dark I couldn't make out anything except the softness of the sheets, his silhouette hovering over me, and the need pulsing between us.My words came out in a breathless pant “Yes. Please” Even though it was dark, I swear I could see his wicked smile. Kellan leaned down and slanted his lips on mine, kissing me deeply, passionately. His tongue swept across the roof of my mouth and I met his with equal energy. God, I forgot how he kissed me, the way he made everything around us fade, till there was only me, him, us, and the pleasure we give each other. “Kellannn,” I moaned against his mouth. Again, he smiled, and my stomach fluttered.

KELLAN'S P. O. VI had started growing a stubble. Not intentionally, I just woke up one morning and realized I'd been carrying a beard on my chin. I hadn’t been paying much attention to my appearance lately, and the days were endless. At first, the itch of it annoyed me, but now, it’s become familiar, like a habitThe office air felt too still and suffocating as usual. I needed a breath of fresh air, for a different view besides the one from my office glass wall. My mind was tired of doing the same thing over and over again, but my body hadn't found the motivation to do anything else.I rolled my shoulders, willing the stiffness there to go away.I needed to leave the office—this building in general. The numbers on the screen blurred in my vision. Another sign that I should get out of here to take a breather I tried to focus on the screen, the numbers, the data, but nothing really mattered anymore. I was just living life like I was in a train and the driver had passed my destinatio

ASHELY'S P. O. VTWO WEEKS LATER“So you're telling me the landlord upgraded the flooring, the wiring, even the appliances.” Jackie drawled, earning her an eye roll from Sydney. The elevator pinged and stopped on the sixth floor., I reached into my coat pockets to bring out the keys to my apartment—4C.July was the first to step out of the elevator with a box in hand, every one of them, July, Jackie, Beulah, Gwendie, and Sydney all had a box with them.I had wanted to carry some from the van downstairs, but July feigned a glare my way, and Sydney had launched into a full-on health speech on why I shouldn't be lifting heavy objects.I loved and appreciated how they cared for me, but sometimes it was too much. I'm just nineteen weeks gone, not two days to labour.“Yes,” I answered Jackie's question. She had been surprised that the new landlord had the apartment cleaned and fixed and yet didn't raise the rent.Jackie gasped “Unbelievable”“Maybe he's just being generous” Beulah chipped
