Chapter 2

　　The door slams and the buzzing silence returns, drowning out her ears.

　　Jane tries to prop herself up but has difficulty standing up.

　　She picks up the check and couldn\'t help herself from smiling bitterly.

　　Since seven years ago, her father brought his illegitimate daughter into the house. The Jiang family\'s property, her father\'s love, and her fiance have all become her stepsister’s playthings.

　　Her phone vibrated against the table.

　　Jane quickly walks and takes the mobile phone.

　　\"Janie, your mother had an accident!\" Her father\'s voice coming through from the phone.

　　Jane Jiang suddenly turns pale, \"What!? What happened to mom? Where is she?\"

　　\"To Liam\'s hospital. Your mother needs a blood transfusion but the blood bank is empty. Didn\'t he tell you? I’ve been sending you text messages the whole day!\"

　　Jane was stunned. Her body stiffened as if an electric current ran through it. Her face turned from white to blue and her lips could not stop shivering.

　　He just said, \"…you will get retribution soon.\"

　　The idea floated in Jane’s mind, it was sinister and demented.

　　Liam knew she had an accident, but he didn\'t tell her just now.

　　“What on earth is he doing! He’s been with me for 40 minutes and he never mentioned anything.”

　　She stood up on her weak knees and dashes towards the door.

　　It\'s all her fault. She thought about how she shouldn\'t have hit her pregnant stepsister. How she should have refused her request. More importantly, how she shouldn’t have threatened to expose her secrets.

　　If something happens to her mother, she would rather kill herself.

　　Jane takes a taxi to the hospital and rushes upstairs.

　　Walking out of the elevator, she saw Frank Jiang busy texting in the corridor.

　　She approaches him anxiously. \"Dad, where\'s my mom?\"

　　\"Your mother is inside.\" Frank’s eyes flickers and he coughs dryly, \"You got the money? The operation fee hasn\'t been paid yet.\"

　　\"Yes!\"

　　Jane can\'t care about anything else. She takes out the check from her bag and hands it over without hesitation.

　　After her parents divorced, she and her mother depended on each other. Fortunately, today her father came to their apartment for alimony and just found out about her mother\'s illness.

　　\"Four million?\" Frank took the check and saw the signature at the bottom. He was surprised, \"You went to Liam to ask for money and he gave you this much?\"

　　\"Dad, pay the bill quickly.\" Jane doesn\'t want to say more.

　　This is the payment she received for selling her uterus to Liam.

　　\"I\'ll tell you if you want to borrow for your mother\'s medical expenses go to Liam, not a bank! Although the two of you have broken up, it\'s not such a loss, is it? Go ask him for more money!\"

　　Jane’s father clenches the check, beaming with joy, \"In two months, he is going to hold a wedding with Quinn. The Chu family will certainly give us a lot of betrothal gifts!\"

　　Jane was stunned, \"They’re getting married?\"

　　\"Yes!\" Frank never looks her to her face. He walks to the elevator and says, \"Your Aunt fancies a girly pink suite and plans to give it to Quinn as a dowry, it’s sparkly all over. With this check, she can pay the house money too in the afternoon.\"

　　\"Dad!” Jane recovers and catches up with her father, \"This money is for mom! For the operation!\"

　　\"Pay for the operation?\" Jane\'s father was so fierce that he pushes her away slapping the side of her head, \"Your mother has heart disease, she won’t live long!\"

　　\"Dad, that money is for mom!\"

　　Frank drags Jane out of the elevator as she begs and cries.

　　\"Your mother and I divorced a long time ago!\" Frank was so annoyed by her that he slaps her in the face, \"I\'ve raised you so much and yet you haven\'t paid enough alimony! If Liam can give you four million yuan just like that, he can give it again. Go back to him!\"

　　He slaps her even more until the side of her face hits the floor.

　　\"Pa! Please!\"

　　Frank curses fiercely as he pockets the check and disappears into the elevator.

　　\"Pa?”

　　As she struggles to get up a crowd has already gathered around her and starts talking and pointing. She sits on her knees in despair with tears dripping down her cheeks.

　　“My mother is in danger, but dad had to take away the operation money.”

　　Jane looks up and sees a figure in the crowd.

　　\"Liam!\"

　　She rouses her strength, stands up, and charges against the crowd. She squeezes against the bodies but it felt like chasing a straw up against a river, \"Liam! Please! Help my mother!\"
