Emotional torture

Sometimes, when you feel guilty about something, you might expect others to have similar thoughts. When my mum asked me the question,

"Who was the person that dropped you off in that car that just left?" I was confused. I thought that she had somehow found out what I had been avoiding and didn't want anyone to know. It took me a while, not just a few seconds, to gather my thoughts. At first, I walked past her and was almost in my room when she followed me, trying to reach out and hold my hand, like a mother-daughter gesture, and asked again,

"Can't you tell me who brought you home? What are you hiding?"

I looked into her eyes and realized she wasn't going to accept "no" for an answer. So, I said, "It was Tyler, my best friend's dad." I had already prepared in my mind what to say next, depending on her response.
