Mom panicked. "Lynn, why are you being so petty? We’re all one family. You are doing really well. What’s wrong with raising one more child?"

I should never have held onto even a shred of hope for them. I pulled my hand away.

"Sorry. I can’t help. Either call the police or handle it yourselves. I’m done with this."

With the paternity test results in hand, I turned to the police. "I demand a public apology and compensation for the emotional distress caused by today's events."

She ruined my son’s celebration party. I would absolutely not let her off the hook.

Evan called our attorney to handle the case, and we returned to attend the rest of Miles’ celebration.

The representative from Sterling University finally relaxed after seeing the paternity report. At least my son’s future wouldn’t be destroyed.

When the party ended, we headed back to the restaurant. Evan had already bought a house in the area.
