Her maid

Alexandra was gazing at the beautiful garden through the large transparent window. She was deep in thoughts lost in her own world.

She was ruminating about her grandfather's stimulating words. She was a coward. A coward for running away. A coward for not defending herself.

A coward for allowing them to use her as they pleased. She thought running away would settle all the pains she had. What it gave her were nothing but horrid nightmares that haunts her every night.

"Young Miss" Alexandra is suddenly woken up from her deep thoughts. She turned around to see a middle-aged woman. It was Martha. the housemaid.

Seeing the beautiful woman before her Martha held her breath. The sun's golden rays gave her an ethereal glow. Her golden eyes shimmered like fairy dust.

Her face was so perfect that it seemed like it was carved by God himself. It was a breathtaking sight to behold. It wasn't the first time she had seen her but each time she did her beauty only seemed to increase with each passing second.

"How is your son?"Alexandra asked in a concerning tone.

Martha was baffled by her question. It has been almost two years they have been staying in the same roof and never in those years had Alexandra had asked about her. Asking about her son was out of the question.

"He is fine now, he was discharged from the hospital yesterday"

"I see"

Martha noticed that Alexandra had become skinnier than before and her complexion had become paler.

A pricking sense of guilt struck her heart. She had been away for three weeks because her son had a terrible accident and she had to take care of him.

In three weeks of her absence, Alexandra hadn't eaten or slept properly. She glanced at the shattered pieces of glass on the floor. Seeing it made her feel worse.

Their relation was just that of a housemaid and master. yet Martha always felt a sense of sadness for this child. They did not have a deep conversation, not even once, yet she could see the endless void of sorrow in her heart.

It broke her heart when she had first seen her. She was in a wheelchair and her eyes seemed so lifeless that she thought the old Benjamin brought a dead person to the mansion.

She recovered physically but her mental state was never healed, not completely at least. Alexandra was a mystery that she was always curious to unravel.

When she asked about her past and what had caused her injury she immediately left the mansion without a word. Hearing this old Benjamin caused havoc.

He had completely lost it. She had a panic attack on what had happened. Luckily, Alexandra returned to the mansion before her grandfather had completely destroyed the world. After that, Martha didn't have the temerity to ask about her past.

She was hesitant to ask her to provide the money for her son's hospital fees. But before she could even ask her Alexandra had already transferred the money to her account without asking her. She transferred 10 million dollars which were more than enough for the hospital fees.

This was an anomaly to her since Alexandra always behaved indifferently clammed up to speak or repudiate into someone's personal matters.

It was because of Alexandra that her son was still alive. She didn't know how to thank her. She was ashamed to have hurt in the past. It was unintentional but she felt guilty.

She opened her mouth to thank her but what she heard next took her by surprise.

"Thank you," Alexandra said in a low mellow voice. Martha could only look at her in disbelief.

"Thank you for taking care of me for the past years, but you can stop now because I will be leaving soon" She felt a painful sensation in her heart saying those words. In the past few years, it was Martha who took care of her.

Even though they didn't talk much she always felt a sense of relief while she was with her. She thought she would be alright being alone. she thought she was used to it but yesterday knew how terrifying it is when you are left all alone.

Martha was on the verge of crying when she heard she would be leaving. These two humans had bonded without using words. That's what made them so special. Without realizing beads of tears began to fall from Martha's eyes.

"You must be hungry I will prepare your breakfast" Martha quickly wiped her tears. Alexandra had a feeling of happiness and sadness. It was the first time she saw someone cry for her.

She gave Martha a gentle smile. It was rare for her to smile like that as once in a blue moon. That smile made her more human. The smile warmed Martha's heart like winter melted into spring.

"Let's eat together."

Martha nodded with a wide smile on her face.
