Chapter 2

ผู้เขียน: Lighter Light
When Lucille saw the pain on Derek's face, her expression changed again. She hissed, "Spencer, you actually tried to cripple Derek? Now the whole city knows I'm marrying a mad dog like you! Are you trying to humiliate me?!"

She jabbed her finger at me viciously. "If you still care about my reputation, get on your knees right now and apologize to Derek, and bow your head a hundred times! If you do that, I'll pretend none of this happened."

My heart plunged into an icy abyss. All these years, she had forced me to compromise and submit in every way for Derek's sake.

Derek had ruined our engagement party and even insulted my mother's memory. Even so, she still would not side with me, not even once.

Derek spoke up, "Lucille, even if Spencer does apologize, everyone will just think he's doing it because of you.

"How about this... Let's make him eat all these cookies. That way, everyone will think Spencer is the bigger man. What do you say?"

Lucille's eyes lit up. "Hold him down!"

The next second, security guards swarmed forward and forced me to my knees on the ground.

Lucille then pried open my mouth and shoved the cookies in one by one. She did not stop even when I was choking and could not breathe. Finally, the entire box was emptied, and I curled up on the floor, vomiting uncontrollably.

All I heard was Lucille's cold voice. "You offended Derek and upset me, too. I'm not in the mood to marry you today. For the next few days, you'll kneel in the busiest part of downtown every day. I'll think about our wedding when I'm calmer."

As she helped Derek turn to leave, I suddenly spoke up. "Lucille, if you're dead set on protecting this man, then we might as well never get married at all!"

The moment those words left my mouth, Lucille stopped walking.

Derek suddenly coughed and grabbed Lucille's arm, choking up. "Lucille, I can go to the hospital by myself. You should stay here with Spencer.

"I'm such a terrible person, always hurting your relationship without meaning to, and now I've ruined your wedding, too."

Watching his performance made me feel sicker.

However, Lucille seemed blind to it, and she actually pulled him into her arms with concern.

"Spencer, look at you! You've made Derek cry. He said he didn't mean it. What more do you want? I'm not falling for your tricks. Also, I'm not falling for your threats, so stop trying. It won't work!"

She sneered as she looked around at all the guests and continued, "Everyone, you're all witnesses to this. This is the man I'm supposed to marry, and he's this petty!"

With that, she helped Derek up and left without looking back.

I stood there frozen. Eventually, I forced down the sharp pain in my chest and apologized to the guests.

"I'm sorry you all had to witness this. The reception ends here. Please, everyone, go home."

After seeing off the guests, I finally could not hold on anymore. A wave of dizziness hit me, and I collapsed to the floor.

When I woke up again, I was lying in a hospital bed. The doctor said my ribs were slightly fractured. My stomach had also suffered internal bleeding from the trauma.

I lay there weak and powerless, staring blankly at the ceiling.

Seven years of our relationship had just gone down the drain. I did not want to face this, but I finally saw Lucille for who she truly was.

Before long, Lucille arrived at the hospital. She was drenched in sweat, and several buttons on her shirt had been torn off.

When she saw I was awake, she awkwardly adjusted her collar, her tone harsh.

"Derek was so upset he cried all morning, so I was busy comforting him. That's why I'm late coming to see you.

"Honestly, you make such a big deal out of nothing, and now I have to run back and forth between you two grown men. You're nothing but trouble."

I remained silent and closed my eyes; those words sounded all too familiar.

After that day, I blocked Lucille on every platform and cut off all contact.Vivian and I moved to another city to avoid any more trouble. Our married life was peaceful and happy. With her companionship, the scars in my heart gradually healed.I thought life would continue this way. That was until a month later, on the day Vivian and I were preparing to move abroad together, Lucille somehow found me. I had just dragged my suitcase to the door when I heard urgent knocking.Through the peephole, I saw Lucille kneeling outside, soaking wet, her face as pale as a ghost. A torrential downpour was falling outside, but she let the rain soak her completely."Spencer, please open the door. I know you're in there! I was wrong before. I searched everywhere... to find your new address. Please... just let me see you."I hesitated for a few seconds but eventually opened the door.Seeing me, Lucille's face lit up with excitement. She trembled as she tried to get up from the ground, but I stopp

The next second, I pulled Vivian straight into my arms. Then, I lowered my head and kissed her deeply. She froze for half a heartbeat, then closed her eyes and kissed me back. That single scene set Lucille off. Her face turned deathly pale, drained of all color. When the kiss ended, I lifted my head and looked at her with nothing but indifference. I said flatly, "I don't need your guarantees or promises. Lucille, we're done!"The finality in my voice clearly shook her. Her eyes reddened as she rushed forward to grab my hand, but Vivian shoved her away."Don't touch him," snapped Vivian. She had received combat training from her father since childhood, and her skills were no less than Lucille's, who had been a mercenary.Lucille refused to give up and tried to fight back, but Vivian grabbed her wrist and skillfully pushed her to the ground.Lucille sat slumped on the floor, her voice choked with tears. "Spencer... You're just trying to make me angry, aren't you? There's no way y

Outside the doors, backlit by the light, stood a woman. She wore a wedding dress even more magnificent than the one Lucille had on. Her veil softly covered her face, and she stood tall and straight. She did not look at anyone else. She saw me standing on the stage, and the corners of her lips curved up slightly. Then, she walked in with composed steps, one after another. She passed through the silent guests and stopped in front of Lucille, whose face had gone stiff. She glanced at her and Derek with disdain, her red lips parting as she spoke in a clear, cold voice, "If you're leaving, hurry up and go. Don't delay my wedding day with Spencer."Vivian Summers' words landed like a bombshell.Lucille froze in shock, staring at her in disbelief as she shrieked. "Who are you? What nonsense are you spouting?! This is my wedding with Spencer. What's the meaning of you showing up here in a wedding dress?"Vivian scoffed, her eyes full of contempt. "Ma'am, are you blind or deaf? Didn't I

Lucille did not outright object to Derek's demand. Instead, she turned her gaze toward me and played along with what Derek had said. "But... I think Derek has a point."Spencer, I'm going to be with you for the rest of my life. If you want me to feel secure marrying you, then do what Derek said. Otherwise..."There was a hint of threat in her eyes as she added, "Otherwise, it means you don't love me at all!"I looked at them quietly. The next second, I suddenly reached out and snatched the dog collar. With lightning speed, I snapped it around Derek's neck with a sharp click.Derek was caught completely off guard and coughed from being choked. Then, he realized what had happened.Furious and flustered, he shouted. "Spencer! What the hell are you doing?"Seeing this, Lucille was also shocked and shrieked at me. "Spencer! How could you put a dog collar on Derek's neck? Are you trying to humiliate him?!"I shrugged, my expression innocent. "What are you talking about, Lucille? I jus

On the day of the wedding, I put on the groomsman suit Derek had prepared for me and was assigned to stand at the entrance of the banquet hall to greet guests. The passing guests looked at me with complex expressions, their eyes wandering over my dirty, shabby clothes before looking into the hall.Derek, who was supposed to be the groomsman, wore the custom-tailored groom's tuxedo that should have been mine.A boutonniere was pinned to his chest as he stood beside Lucille in her wedding dress, chatting and laughing cheerfully. He naturally wrapped an arm around her waist and leaned down to whisper in her ear, making her cover her mouth and giggle. The two of them looked so intimate, like a perfect couple. As for me, the actual groom, I was reduced to a mere irrelevant outsider. It was not until just before the ceremony started that the emcee invited me onto the stage. The spotlight hit my face, somewhat blinding. When it came time to exchange rings, Derek carried the ring box an

I stared at Derek and instinctively clenched my fists, ready to charge at him. However, Lucille reacted quickly and stepped in front of him. Her tone was sharp as she shouted, "Spencer, you just got back, and you're already causing trouble?! When will this ever end?"I was actually worried about you before, but you clearly have the strength to fight. Looks like you really were faking your injury to trick me."Watching her protect Derek like that, I suddenly recalled how we first met. She had stood in front of me just like this, confronting a group of thugs. Here she was, doing the same for someone else.At that moment, the last string of attachment I had for her disappeared. After a while, Derek poked his head out of the kitchen with a fake smile plastered on his face. "Spencer, you haven't eaten yet, have you? Let me cook for you guys and show off my skills, and apologize for what happened before."He paused, then added another line. "Don't worry, the ingredients I'm using this
