14: You Can't Rule

Benedict’s eyes turned to slits. I knew he was annoyed so to annoy him more, I smiled at him. Lucius chuckled softly in my ear. Though before Benedict could come up with a retort, a feminine laugh resounded on the entrance of the hall.

I turned my head to see who it was and saw Lucius’ relatives, his Aunt Roselle and her daughter, Sophie. When they spotted Florence and William, they immediately walked over us.

“What a grand celebration this is, Florence,” Roselle said, looking around with her rogue colored lips curving up. When she noticed Lucius, she parted her lips, but when she noticed me, she shut it and furrowed her brows. “I thought you won’t attend, Lucius.”

“I want Maddy to meet Florence,” Lucius replied.

Giving me a final look, Benedict excused himself before walking out of the group. I kept glaring at his back until I couldn’t see him.
