BRANDON’S POV

The darkness wasn’t silent.

That was the worst part.

There was this low, mechanical hum under the floor, vibrating through the soles of my shoes, through my bones, through Cameron’s grip on my arm. And beneath that hum was something else. Something light. Something soft.

Footsteps.

Slow.

Measured.

Coming from the open doorway at the end of the corridor.

Cameron’s breathing hitched against my shoulder. I tightened my arm around him, trying to be calm even though my brain was screa

Cameron’s POV“Amelia.”The name left my mouth like a question.Like if I said it too loudly, the voice would disappear.Nobody moved.Nobody dared to breathe. The darkness around us felt heavy, but somehow, all I could hear was my own heartbeat pounding inside my chest. Then the voice came again.“Cameron?”My knees almost gave out.Brandon caught me around the waist.“Easy.”I grabbed his arm.“She’s alive.”My voice cracked.“She’s actually alive.”My grandfather didn’t say anything.Ethan did.“Where is she?”The voice answered from somewhere behind us.“I’m here.”A tiny light flickered on.Then another.A figure slowly stepped out from behind one of the shelves.A woman. Her hair was longer than I remembered. Her face was thinner. She looked older. But I knew those eyes.I knew that smile.I knew the tiny scar above her eyebrow from when we were children and she had fallen off her bicycle because she insisted she could ride without holding the handles. My sister. My Amelia. My h

Cameron’s POVI couldn’t stop staring at the note.Victor isn’t the enemy. He’s protecting me.Those words didn’t make sense.None of this made sense. My grandfather was supposedly controlling my father.Victor was supposedly controlling my grandfather.Brandon had supposedly erased my memories. My sister had disappeared. And somehow, I had apparently planned part of it myself. At this point, I was starting to think my family needed therapy more than secrets.A lot of therapy.Brandon stepped closer.“Cameron?”I looked at him.“What?”“You’re shaking.”I looked down.He was right. My hands were trembling badly.“I don’t understand anything anymore.”Brandon gently took the note from my fingers.“You don’t have to understand everything tonight.”“Yes, I do.”My voice cracked.“I’ve spent years not knowing who I am.”He stared at me quietly.“I wake up every day with holes in my memories, and everyone keeps telling me they’re protecting me.”My eyes filled with tears.“But nobody ever

Cameron’s POVFor a few seconds, nobody moved.Nobody even breathed properly. We stood inside the narrow passage, pressed against cold stone walls while the man’s laughter continued from the other side of the door.It wasn’t loud. That somehow made it worse. It was soft.Calm.Almost amused.Like he already knew exactly where we were.Brandon’s hand was still wrapped around mine.“Cameron,” he whispered.I looked at him.“What?”“Are you sure you know that voice?”I nodded slowly.“I think so.”“You think?”“I was a kid.”My voice shook.“I don’t remember his face, but I remember his voice.”My grandfather turned toward me.“You shouldn’t remember him.”I stared at him.“That’s the problem, isn’t it?”He looked away.I stepped closer.“You knew.”“Cameron—”“You knew I’d remember eventually.”His silence answered for him.I felt anger rise inside my chest.“Who is he?”My grandfather sighed.“His name is Victor.”Brandon’s expression hardened.“Victor who?”My grandfather didn’t answe

Cameron’s POVNobody spoke. For several seconds, the entire room became painfully quiet.I stared at my grandfather. He stared back at me.Brandon stood beside me, his hand still wrapped around mine, like he was silently reminding me that I was not alone. My grandfather swallowed.“Cameron,” he finally said.I shook my head.“No.”His eyebrows pulled together.“Please, just listen.”“You knew?”My voice came out quieter than I expected. He looked away. That was enough. My stomach dropped.“You knew,” I whispered.Brandon squeezed my hand.My grandfather sighed heavily.“I knew about your father.”I laughed once.It wasn’t funny. It was the kind of laugh people made when something hurt too much.“Of course you did.”“Cameron—”“You knew everything!”My voice echoed through the room.Ethan stepped closer.“Cameron, calm down.”I turned toward him.“Don’t tell me to calm down.”He immediately raised both hands.“Okay. Not calming down. Got it.”Despite everything, Adrian snorted.Ethan l

Chapter — The Man Behind EverythingCameron’s POVI stared at the man without moving afterward. His face looked strangely familiar to me.But my mind couldn’t place him anywhere.Brandon stood beside me, watching him carefully. His fingers remained tightly wrapped around mine.“You really don’t remember me?” he asked.I shook my head slowly afterward.“Should I?”He smiled sadly at me afterward.“You used to call me Uncle Daniel.”Something inside my chest suddenly tightened.Uncle Daniel. The name felt familiar somehow.I closed my eyes briefly afterward.A memory appeared almost immediately afterward.I was younger, sitting beside him quietly. He was teaching me how to shuffle cards.Brandon was sitting across from us, laughing.I remembered that laugh more clearly afterward. Then everything disappeared again.I opened my eyes quickly afterward.“You knew Brandon too.”Daniel smiled slightly afterward.“I knew everyone.”Brandon immediately stepped forward afterward.“You knew Camer

Cameron’s POVThe words followed me through the silence.I stared at Adrian without understanding anything.Project Heir sounded more terrifying than expected.Brandon remained beside me without saying anything. His hand stayed wrapped around mine tightly.“You were the reason it existed,” Adrian repeated.I swallowed hard afterward.“That doesn’t make any sense.”Adrian placed the file on the desk.“It will.”I immediately frowned afterward.“Everyone keeps saying that tonight.”Brandon laughed quietly beside me.“At least you’re consistent.”I looked toward him afterward.“This isn’t funny.”“I know.”“You’re smiling.”“I’m nervous.”“You smile when you’re nervous?”“Apparently.”I shook my head afterward.“You’re impossible.”“And you’re still talking to me.”I almost smiled afterward. Then Adrian cleared his throat.“Can we focus?”Brandon immediately looked offended.“I was helping.”“You were flirting.”“Those things can coexist.”I laughed quietly afterward.Even Ethan smiled s

Brandon’s POVThe second Cameron whispered hide, my brain just—blanked. Like, yeah, sure, great idea, but where? This room had less cover than a test you didn’t study for.Cameron dove behind the closet door, sliding it shut just enough to leave a crack. I, in all my genius, chose the worst possibl

Cameron’s POVThe second we shut the bathroom door behind us, both Brandon and I jumped like we'd been caught making out by a teacher , which, to be fair, wasn't too far from the truth.I yanked my phone from the makeshift stand on the sink and stopped the recording with shaking hands. “Okay,” I b

Cameron’s POVThrowing a party under the excuse of an engagement was probably the dumbest genius idea I’d ever had. I told Brandon it was for us to get the blackmailer ,lure him and set the trap. But let’s be real: maybe I also wanted to see what would happen if we blurred the lines a little more.

Cameron POVI should’ve been angry. Furious. Hell, maybe even panicked.Someone was threatening me. Not from the outside, but from within our own circle. Someone who’d looked me in the eye, smiled like we were friends, and then turned around and stabbed me in the back with a screenshot. They were r
