He abruptly stood up and went into my room. I ran my fingers through my hair and followed him, puzzled.

“What exactly are you trying to say? Tell me directly so we can understand each other. Don’t beat around the bush! I’m not a mind reader to know what you’re hinting at,” I said, frustrated.

As much as I can, I don’t want us to fight, which is why I want us to resolve this calmly by talking.

“Why don’t you ask yourself? Or your man?”

“Man? What man?”

I really couldn’t understand what he was saying.

“Or maybe there are so many you can’t name them all?” he chuckled sarcastically.

He sat on my bed and loosened his suit tie like it was choking him.

“What? What man? I don’t have another man!” I snapped.

Damn, he’s the only man in my life.

He tilted his head at me, then smirked a little, mocking me. His eyes grew even darker. I swear he looked so livid.

I sighed and told myself to calm down. We can’t fix anything if we’re both shouting. Someone has to put pride aside and be sensible.

  • STEPBROTHERS WITH BENEFITS    Chapter 66

We were lying on the bed. I was cradled in his biceps while he lay flat on his back. My arm was wrapped around his waist. I breathed in his natural, manly scent. I closed my eyes. He smelled so good.I still can’t believe what happened just a few hours ago.He likes me.I couldn’t help biting my bottom lip as a smile curved my lips.Damn, he likes me too.Kayden leaned down and examined my face.“What are you thinking? Hmm?” he whispered into my ear. His warm breath made me feel ticklish.“Hmm?”“You’re giggling. What’s on your mind?”“You,” I answered. He froze at that. After a moment, he smiled.“Care to share what’s running through your head?”I took his hand and tucked it against my waist. He turned onto his side, facing me.“I still can’t believe it. I never once imagined this would happen to us. I’m just… bewildered.”“I feel the same. I never would’ve thought this day would come. Maybe fate has its own way of playing with people. Imagine, the person I thought I’d hate forever e

I couldn’t wipe the huge grin off my face while we ate. The food was great, and the whole kitchen setup felt romantic, but the happiness in my chest was the best part. It was so full that my heart could burst any second.“You look creepy, Noah,” Kayden said.I ignored him. If anything, my smile just grew wider.“You’re so handsome,” I said softly, enough to make his face flush.“You too,” he murmured.“I thought I wasn’t your type?” I teased, smirking. He scowled. “I wasn’t your type before, was I?”“Nah-uh. You were, actually. Physically.” I shrugged. “But then you were a jerk, so I stopped being interested.”It was true. The first time I saw him at their mansion, I was already captivated by how handsome he was. I mean, who wouldn’t be? He looked unrealistically gorgeous, especially in that damn three-piece suit.“And now? Am I still a jerk to you?”I pretended to think for a moment. Then I said, “A bit.”He frowned even more. I chuckled. Over the past few months, I’ve seen how much

“Food’s ready.”I snapped back to reality when I heard Kayden’s voice. I turned my phone off. I didn’t even realize he had already come into the room.My chest felt heavy as I stood up.“Who were you talking to?” he asked.I shook my head and answered lazily, “Just my manager,” I lied.He didn’t ask anything more.As we walked toward the kitchen, I remained silent. Zade’s words stayed in my mind. He’s the best adviser out of the three of us, even if he’s the biggest troublemaker. He’s also really good at sizing people and situations up. If that’s what he noticed, it was probably true.My jaw dropped in awe when I saw the kitchen setup. The lights were off, the room lit only by candlelight. Rose petals I didn’t know where they’d come from were scattered on the floor. Foods were also ready on the table.“What the—?” I looked at Kayden, my eyes widening. He smiled at me.“Shall we take a seat now?”I didn’t answer and walked toward the table. I was about to sit when my gaze landed on tha

We held each other’s gaze for a moment. His lips parted, as if he was finally going to say something. But, as if luck wasn’t on our side, his phone rang. He excused himself, and all I could do was nod.I scoffed. What timing! He came back after a minute. I thought he was finally going to say something about my confession, but what he said made my heart sink.“Have you eaten dinner already?”My jaw dropped as I looked at him; disbelief must have been written all over my face. Is he serious? That has nothing to do with what I just said!I frowned. A heavy feeling instantly settled in my chest; all my hope had been siphoned away.He must have felt relieved that someone called him earlier, giving him the perfect excuse to escape that uncomfortable moment.“Noah?”I came back to my senses when he called my name.I shook my head lazily. I hadn’t had dinner, but I didn’t feel like eating, not tonight. Out of nowhere, my strength gave out. Damn. I suddenly just want to sleep and forget about

I studied his face for a moment, my heartbeat picking up from how much I admired him.“I like you,” I blurted out. There, I finally said it.I don’t even know if this is a good idea. Maybe I’m being reckless—carried away by the moment. Maybe I’ll regret it tomorrow, or even just a minute after this. But right now—right in this moment—I’m tired of pretending. I’m done acting like he doesn’t affect me at all when, in fact, even the littlest, most insignificant thing he does still hits me right under my ribs.Because my feelings for him aren’t a joke. I want him to know how I really feel for him. I want him to take me seriously—just like the way I wanted him to take me.The first time I’m letting my emotions breathe instead of locking them away and pretending they don’t exist. I’ve promised myself I’d do whatever it takes to win him, and that won’t work if I keep letting my fears hold me back.I looked down at my thighs where my hands were placed. I heaved a nervous sigh and played with

He relaxed in my arms, no longer resisting. After a while, I eased out of the embrace. He looked calmer now. “It’s so hard to leave you. You could find someone else in a heartbeat, and it’s making me lose my mind.” My heart thudded. “You missed me?” His eyes dropped to my lips. “Only if you knew how furious I was when that asshole answered the phone. I wanted to smash his face until he died.” I gently stroked his arm. “He’s harmless.” “No, he isn’t. Every person who tries to hit on you will never be harmless to me, Noah,” he said darkly. I bit my lip to hold back a smile. Damn. How can he be so adorable even when he’s furious? “Why are you smiling? Do you like that man?” I swear he looked like an angry bird with his thick brows furrowed. I shook my head. “No. If I liked him, I wouldn’t be here with you.” “Then why are you smiling and blushing?” I wet my lips and smirked. “You look so hot and adorable,” I murmured. His face instantly flushed. “What? Where’s all that anger
