Chapter 537

Author: Gathered Light
Liam didn't respond—his silence was an admission.

"Liam, you're a good kid. If you don't want me to go back to the manor, then I won't," Augustine said with a smile.

"Grandpa, they are the ones who should be moving out," Liam said, his gaze deep and serious.

Augustine shook his head. "It's not just because of this that I want to move out. When your grandma was still alive years ago, we had already picked out a quiet estate in the suburbs. It's tranquil and perfect for retirement.

"But you haven't been in the country these past few years, and your father—though cunning enough—wasn't able to manage the company well. That's why I stayed.

"Now that you're back, I can finally rest easy. Once I'm discharged, I'll move into Brightwood Estate. As for the manor, if Lara really wants it that badly, let her have it."

Liam lowered his gaze, his voice hoarse. "Grandpa, how do you plan on dealing with Mother?"

Augustine smiled as his gaze settled back on him. "Haven't you already taken care

Jacklyn didn't even spare Eugene a glance as she walked right past him. "What does that have to do with you?"Eugene took a big step to catch up to her, pretending not to notice her cold expression as he continued, "Did you meet with Ian because you have some dirt on Penelope? Is there something improper going on between her and Ian?"As he spoke, his eyes lit up. "Jackie, if you really do know something, can you tell me? That way, I can finally break things off with Penelope once and for all."Jacklyn stopped and turned slightly to look at him. Her tone was mocking as she asked, "You have to ask someone else what kind of person your own wife is?"Eugene had no response. As he watched Jacklyn start to walk off again, he quickly threw an arm out to block her."Jackie, just tell me what you've found out about Penelope."Jacklyn shoved his arm away in annoyance. "If you're so curious, you can go ask her yourself. What does it have to do with me?"Eugene had finally seen Jacklyn aga

Being called out hit a nerve, and Romy tightened her grip on Lucy's hand. "So what? I have raised Lucy since the day she was born—she is my daughter.""From both a moral and legal standpoint, you have no right to stop me. I'm not discussing this with you, Romy—I'm informing you," Ian said.He reached out to grab Lucy. "I didn't know before, but now I do, and I'll raise her from now on."Romy refused to let go, so Ian decided to take Lucy away by force."No! I don't want to leave Mommy. You're a bad man! Let me go!" Lucy yelled, terrified, when she was suddenly seized. As Romy's hand was torn away, Lucy's crying grew louder and more heart-wrenching. In the end, Ian couldn't bear to watch her cry so uncontrollably and finally released her.In an instant, Lucy flung herself into Romy's arms."Lucy, I'm your father. If you can't accept it right away, I'll give you some time. We can take it slow and get to know each other, little by little."Even though Ian was deeply reluctant, he

Penelope had been anxious for several days after that call with Ian. When she learned that he had returned from his business trip, she quickly found an opportunity to meet him. Before she could even say a word, Ian cut straight to the point. "Lucy Cullen's my daughter."It wasn't a question but a statement.Penelope panicked. "How did you know?"As he saw how nervous she looked, his eyes flickered slightly, and the last shred of uncertainty he had vanished completely."So it's true."Ian's eyes darkened, and his expression became terrifyingly stormy. "My own daughter has been right under my nose for so long. If I hadn't brought it up, were you planning on keeping it a secret from me forever?"Penelope had dragged this matter out again and again. She'd done all sorts of things, and yet she never once mentioned Lucy.Ian's patience had run out, and that was why he pretended to already know the truth. Surprisingly, she fell for his bluff.Only then did Penelope realize that Ian's

Jacklyn's voice was calm, but her words made the two men's hearts tremble. Why was she so difficult to deal with? The man instantly looked up to retort, "That's an invasion of privacy! How can you just go through other people's call logs?""Then, I'll just have to call the police and have them check."Jacklyn methodically drew out their statements one by one, and even Eugene could tell that something was suspicious about them just by listening. Finally, the two men couldn't hold it in any longer and quickly pleaded for mercy, "Don't call the police! We were wrong! We'll tell the truth!"Jacklyn looked up, her cool gaze landing on Eugene. Even though she didn't say anything, her eyes seemed to be saying, "This is your so-called evidence?"Eugene looked down at the two men who were still begging."It's not her?" he asked again stubbornly. The two men nodded, panic clear on their faces."We don't know who it was either. The other party contacted us and gave us a sum of money. The

Jacklyn brought Theodore to the hospital again. Fortunately, Lara wasn't around to stop them this time, so they successfully made it inside to see Augustine.Augustine, who had been awake for a while now, beamed brightly when he saw Theodore bouncing around, full of life.He waved at the little Theodore, saying, "Come here, my dear great-grandson."Theodore obediently ran over to his side and asked with concern, "Mr. Robertson Senior, are you doing okay? Does it still hurt?"Theodore looked carefully at where the IV was inserted.A warmth stirred in Augustine's heart. "It doesn't hurt anymore. Now that you're here to see me, it doesn't hurt."After the two chatted for a bit, Augustine turned his attention to Jacklyn."Jackie—I heard Liam call you that, so I'll follow suit," he said, his eyes narrowed slightly, and his haggard, pale face full of kindness and warmth."Have you two decided when you're getting married yet? I'm old now, and my health is worsening every day. I want t
