Chapter 1

Author: Wild Wheat
After finally getting pregnant through multiple rounds of IVF, I discovered my CEO husband had already become someone else's father.

I verified it again and again, but all I found were more lies. Yet when I walked away carrying our child, he was the one who fell apart.

Ethan Shaw pressed his bare, muscular torso against me by the pool. The breeze wrapped our breaths together as one.

We kissed passionately while touching each other, seeing nothing but one another in our eyes and hearts. I had no idea a single phone call was about to destroy everything.

Ethan didn't know I'd learned Valerian from my mother years ago. I understood it perfectly well. His Valerian flowed beautifully as he flirted with the woman on the phone, tender and intimate.

"Kimmy, don't worry. Tomorrow's prenatal appointment will go smoothly, and our genes will create the perfect baby. I'll groom him to be my successor. The moment he's born, he'll inherit everything I own."

Ethan's warm hand still traced patterns on my back, but I trembled involuntarily, doubting my own ears. This woman, Kimmy, was pregnant with my husband's child?

Then what did all my painful IVF attempts mean? What about all these years of marriage?

Of course, I knew the Shaw family needed an heir, and though Ethan never said it out loud, he wanted a child. We'd tried for so long with no success.

That was why I put my body through hell, secretly going through round after round of IVF without telling him. And he'd already gotten someone else pregnant!

How dare he? While I poured everything into our relationship, he was cheating on me?

"Honey, focus."

Ethan hung up and tried to continue. "What were you going to tell me earlier?"

His wet lips touched my skin again, but instead of love and tenderness, all I felt was disgust and hatred. I shoved him away and tied my robe.

"Nothing. I don't feel well. Let's do this another time."

"Did that phone call upset you? Okay, I won't handle work stuff at times like this anymore."

Ethan kept lying to me. Since he didn't know I understood Valerian, he insisted it was just work. If I pushed any harder, I'd look unreasonable.

I forced a smile. "I think my period just started. Want me to use my hand instead?"

"Don't bother." A flash of impatience crossed Ethan's face before he dove into the pool.

I hurried to the bathroom and pulled out the crumpled pregnancy report from my pocket. A new life was growing inside me, but I had no one to share this joy with.

The silence pressed in as a thousand thoughts crashed through my mind.

The name Kimmy sounded familiar. About two months ago, late one night, I'd seen the name Kimberly Jones on Ethan's phone.

She was pinned at the top of his WhatsApp messages. Ethan said she was an important client, so I didn't think much of it.

When had they gotten together? When had Ethan decided to get her pregnant? And why did he betray me like this?

I was the one who stood by him through everything all these years. How could he betray me so completely?

For a moment, rage consumed me. I almost stormed out to demand answers, but Ethan's suit jacket on the counter snapped me back to reality. On the inside of the collar was a clear lipstick stain.

It was bright red, a shade I'd never wear. All my strength drained away, and tears streamed down my face.

"Cindy, why are you taking so long in there? Are you okay?" Ethan knocked suddenly, startling me.

I quickly wiped my tears and answered as steadily as I could. "Almost done. What's up?"

"Something came up at work, so we might need to head back early. I promise I'll make more time for you next time."

Ethan sounded sincere with a hint of reluctance in his tone. If not for that phone call, I would have believed him, understood him, and even felt sorry for how busy he was.

But the truth was, he was lying to me!

He wasn't going back to work. He was going with Kimberly to her prenatal appointment. He didn't deserve to be my child's father.

Ethan, you ought to remember that I was the one who left you.

Sienna was my own child. I'd done the IVF myself, given birth myself, and raised her myself. Whatever Ethan contributed with that one sperm, he'd forfeited the moment he hurt my daughter and me.When Ethan heard my explanation, far from backing off, he started camping outside the company every day, waiting for me. We'd chase him away, and he'd come right back, insisting on earning forgiveness from Sienna and me.Occasionally, Sienna would run into Ethan waiting outside, and she'd glare at him with disgust.Today was a blizzard. Ethan still stood outside without an umbrella, wearing only a thin shirt. The snow was about to bury him alive, so I had someone bring him inside.Ethan staggered toward Sienna and me, then collapsed on the floor, unable to support himself. "Cindy, does this mean you forgive me?"Sweetheart, come let Daddy see you..."Sienna grabbed a teacup and threw it at him. "I'm not your daughter! If you call me that again, I'll have my real dad beat you up!"I didn'

Five years later, I won the gold award at the International Design Competition in Valas.Over these five years, aside from having a child, I'd done nothing but work. No matter how talented someone was, abandoning a career for ten years made starting over twice as hard.Fortunately, Chase had been by my side, supporting me the entire time. I didn't disappoint him either. I brought enormous benefits and commercial value to his company.I composed myself and walked toward Chase with my trophy. He and my daughter, Sienna, applauded from the audience."Ms. Sutton, that was remarkable.""Mommy, you were amazing!"Chase gave me 20% of the company shares as a gift, while Sienna gave me a painting she'd made herself. All the memories came flooding back, and tears welled up in my eyes.Five years had passed, and I'd proven myself with my own abilities, giving my former self the answer she deserved.Chase had perfect timing. He got down on one knee and proposed, promising to treat Sienna

At the hospital, Ethan returned to find only bruised and battered bodyguards and an empty room."Where's my wife? Where did she go?" He glared at the cowering men. "You can't even handle something this simple. What good are you?"The bodyguards trembled. "Mr. Shaw, there were too many of them. The man leading them was someone you've met before. The one who came to see your wife."Ethan's eyes narrowed. "Chase Jordan? I knew he had ulterior motives!"Turn Weston upside down if you have to, but find them!"At Ethan's command, the city was flooded with people searching for Chase and me for days on end.At first, though furious, Ethan didn't think we could get far. Finding me and making me regret it seemed inevitable to him. But days passed with no leads, and Ethan truly panicked. He dialed my discarded phone number over and over, desperately hoping to hear that familiar voice on the other end.Someone snatched his phone away. He turned irritably to see Kimberly's face.Ethan was

I stayed in the hospital for half a month.During that time, Ethan stayed with me constantly, only leaving occasionally. He ignored my coldness and took care of me meticulously, handling everything personally like the picture of a perfect husband.Ethan handed me a perfectly peeled apple. "Here, get some vitamin C."I pushed his hand away, my tone icy. "Aren't you tired? I'm exhausted just watching you."Kimberly's going to give birth in two or three months, right? Why waste your time here instead of being with her?"Ethan patiently cut the apple into small pieces. "Cindy, I'm sick of hearing these bitter comments, even if you're not sick of making them."How many times do I have to tell you before you believe me? No matter what I do outside, I'll always come home. You're the only one I love."I know you're angry about losing the baby. Once Kimberly gives birth, I'll bring the child back to the Shaw family. You're the only one who can be the mother of my child."He handed me a

The murmurs around us grew louder."How could she miscarry? Mr. Shaw's wife is infertile. Everyone in our circle knows that. Maybe she just got her period.""Periods don't bleed that much. She definitely miscarried."Ethan roared, "Everyone shut up!"He bent down and held me, his voice breaking. "Cindy, honey... Is it... Is it our baby?"I had no strength to speak. I just pointed at the report that had fallen from my purse. It clearly showed I'd tried IVF 12 times over five years before finally getting pregnant. Ethan's name was in the husband column.Ethan panicked and tried to carry me to the hospital. Kimberly looked like she was about to faint. "Ethan, I... I can't handle blood. My stomach hurts..."Ethan ignored her completely and shouted at the others. "What are you standing around for? Call an ambulance! If anything happens to my child, you'll all pay for it!"He was desperate, but I lay on the ground refusing to get up. "Promise me one thing, and I'll go to the hospita

Ethan and Kimberly stood together on stage, giving their speech. They looked perfect together.Every year before this, I'd stood beside Ethan. He used to say he'd get nervous without me by his side. This year, he used my hospital discharge and poor health as an excuse to let Kimberly replace me. It all seemed so natural.I sat in a corner of the banquet hall, watching a crowd gather around them with compliments. I didn't understand why Ethan had even bothered bringing me here.Suddenly, the group fawning over Kimberly turned to look at me, then turned back to whisper among themselves."That's Mr. Shaw's wife? Shaw Group is such a massive enterprise. How did he end up marrying some country bumpkin?""That dress she's wearing is from last year's collection, isn't it? Don't you have the same one? Is she wearing secondhand?""Kimmy and Mr. Shaw are so much better matched. Even his tie matches the color of Kimmy's gown!"…Listening to them made me feel sick, so I fled into the bat
