Let Her Burn

last update Huling Na-update: 2025-08-05 19:25:25

Seraphina.

The cold of the dungeon had seeped so deep into my bones I wondered if I’d ever feel warmth again. Time lost meaning in the pitch black, measured only by the relentless drip… drip… drip… of water and the frantic pounding of my own heart. Exhaustion warred with terror, pulling me towards a numb oblivion I desperately fought.

Then, the iron door screeched as it opened.

Harsh torchlight blinded me. Rough hands hauled me up. My stiff, bound limbs screamed in protest. I didn’t struggle. What was the point? The faces of the warriors were grim, devoid of pity. They didn’t speak. They simply dragged me out of the cell, up the endless stone stairs.

The noise hit me first. A low, ominous rumble, like distant thunder, growing louder with every step upward. It resolved into a roar as we emerged into the main courtyard.

People. Hundreds of them. Pack members crammed together, shoulder to shoulder, their faces a blur of anger and hatred. They were chanting the moment they saw me. They wanted me to burn, and that was when I saw it.

The center of it all, towering like an obscene monument, stood the pyre. It was freshly cut timber, stacked high and doused in oil, as if waiting for the strike of match to overwhelm it with flames. A thick post rose from its center, waiting… for me.

My knees buckled. The warriors holding my arms tightened their grip, propelling me forward through the jeering crowd. Spit landed on my face. Curses rained down.

ā€œMurderer!ā€

ā€œOmega scum!ā€

ā€œBurn the traitor!ā€

ā€œAvenge Alpha Zen!ā€

ā€œOmegas don't deserve to live!ā€

ā€œKill her already!ā€

ā€œWe want justice!ā€

ā€œNo interrogations! Kill her!ā€

One of the guards bent low and his grip tightened on my arm, so painful that it felt like my bone was about to be crushed from the strength.

ā€œCan you see all that?ā€ His breath, a tobacco filled strength, filled my nose and I couldn't help but look away in disgust. ā€œThey all want you gone! Dead! Even if you offered to bury yourself, or even kill yourself, it won't do you no good. Even if you offered your life up to servitude for eternity, no one would care. You are worthless.ā€

My nose crinkled with disgust and the guard caught it. He chuckled for a few seconds before his expression turned ugly and he landed a heavy slap across my face.

ā€œYou bitch! You think I'm disgusting?ā€

The crowd cheered him on.

ā€œBeat her up!ā€

ā€œSlap her better!!ā€

ā€œMake it hurt! Make her feel the pain!ā€

The guard stared up into the crowd and a smile broke out on his face. I could tell he felt invincible as the crowd cheered him on to continue his assaults on me.

ā€œGroober, what are you doing?ā€ The other guard grabbed his hand with a frown on his face. ā€œThe Alpha wants to see her?ā€

ā€œSo what?ā€ He spat out, ā€œThe Alpha would be even more grateful when he finds out that we are avenging his brother's memory.ā€

That was when the loss engulfed me. Alpha Zen was now a memory. The coldness of that word hit me like a storm of bricks. I bit my lower lip so hard that I could taste the blood on my tongue. My Alpha was dead… and his last words haunted me. He wanted his murderer to be forgiven, did he mean I should take the fall for it? Did he mean I should die in place of the murderer who killed him? Was that what his last words to me, meant?

ā€œThe Alpha is coming out! The Alpha is coming out!!ā€

People began to shout and scream, and my heart sank even further. My despair knew no bounds when I remembered the huge black wolf I had saved…I couldn't even tell how much time had passed as I say in that cold dungeon. That huge wolf was Zen's brother. Would he take pity on me and listen to my story just for the sake that I helped him?

ā€œWhere is the woman?ā€

A loud and thick voice commanded and the pack grounds that was rowdy with hundreds of pack member suddenly fell quiet. That was when I saw him as a human. He was beautiful and handsome at the same time. Even with the scar that ran across his well toned chest and the right side of his chin, he still looked formidable. His eyes were even more intense than that night's own and something in me stirred. Something I have never felt before… as if coming from the abyss of my heart and mind, steering it's head.

ā€œMate.ā€

It was like a whisper. Slow and silent. Only heard by me. I turned around for who could have said that, because I knew it wasn't Alpha Kael, and somehow, just somehow, I knew my wolf had surfaced. A lot of things were happening to me. First, I wasn't burned by an Alpha's touch anymore, and secondly, my wolf came? Omegas didn't have the luxury of having their own wolves. We were usually born without wolves, and we died that way too.

Surely, Alpha Kael knew we were mates, right? He wouldn't do this, right? My eyes darted to the pyre and back to him. The look in his eyes killed my hope instantly. He was far gone in his rage to care about such things as mundane as having a mate when his last living blood relative was dead.

He stood at the edge of the pyre platform, facing the crowd. Kael Vittori. The wounded wolf. The next in line to the Alpha King's throne. My accuser.

He looked… transformed. The man I’d seen weakened, vulnerable in the shack was gone. In his place stood pure, terrifying Alpha power. His jet-black hair was tied back severely, revealing the sharp angles of his face, pale and set in lines of granite. His eyes… Goddess, his eyes. Pitch black, burning with an inner fire that had nothing to do with the torches. They were the eyes of a predator who had cornered its prey. Eyes filled with a grief as deep as a homicidal rage.

His gaze swept the crowd, commanding their silence, their absolute attention. The power radiating from him was a physical pressure, making the air crackle. Then, slowly, deliberately, he turned those devastating eyes on me.

The impact was like a physical blow. Recognition flared in his gaze, sharp and immediate, cutting through the fury for a split second. Surprise? Disbelief? Then it was swallowed again by the inferno of his rage. He saw the bloodstains on my ruined uniform. He saw the mud on my face, my terrified expression, and his expression darkened even further.

ā€œSet her on the pyre. I will light the fire myself. She will burn and her ashes will have no restin

g place.ā€ His dark eyes found mine, and I knew he was dead serious. I knew this was the end… My end.

  • Seraphina- The Alpha's Murderer Ā Ā Ā Torvin's Anger

TorvinGetting back, I was already peeved and vibrating with range. ā€œThere’s no way I’m going to believe that idea of Kael being Seraphina’s mateā€ This has been the thought going on in my head as I paced my bedroom. I really have to do something about this. I had so many ideas running through my head, but couldn’t get the perfect one that would work out well without me being a suspect.ā€œKael, Always Kaelā€He was the first to build his own pack from scratch, to prove himself to the council despite the curse that was stalked to his blood. And now he has a mate, and not just any mate but her. The omega who defied pain, the one who had slipped through my fingers when I first heard wispers of her escape from silvermane.ā€œI had wanted to see her then, to know why the moon Goddess had spared an omega such resilience. Now she mated to Kael, bound in name and bondā€.The thought of all these made my heart beat faster than ever.

  • Seraphina- The Alpha's Murderer Ā Ā Ā Threats in Silence

The routine is set—until it isn’t. On the fifth day, Seraphina wakes to the sound of voices in the corridor, loud and unguarded. She flinches, expecting the guards, but when the door opens it is neither them nor Kael. It’s Torvin. He sweeps into the room like he owns the air. His coat is velvet, midnight blue, embroidered with silver. His eyes flick over the space, then settle on her, and the smile he offers is not kind. ā€œSo this is how they keep you,ā€ he says, voice soft as honey. ā€œLike a mongrel on a leash.ā€Seraphina pushes herself up, uncertain whether to kneel or stand. She goes for kneeling. Kael has not yet appeared, but she knows he will. He always does.Torvin drops into a crouch beside her. He brings with him the scent of rain and something sharper—expensive cologne, or maybe just the metallic tang of anticipation. In his hands is a basket. He sets it before her and peels back the cloth, revealing a stack of warm flatbread and a wedge of cheese.ā€œEat,ā€ he says, like it’s a g

  • Seraphina- The Alpha's Murderer Ā Ā Ā What He Did Not Expect

Days blur together until Seraphina loses count. Her world is narrowed to the hard geometry of the Alpha’s quarters: bed, rug, desk, door. Her hours are simple—clean, serve, stay invisible. Kael leaves early, returns late, sometimes not at all. In the space between, she memorizes the shifting patterns of light on the walls, the cold rush of air that snakes through the cracked window, the subtle changes in Kael’s gait when he returns each night. He’s never drunk, never disorderly. But each evening, his exhaustion is a little deeper, his stare a little more splintered. She hears him in the dead hours, pacing the floors above, muttering to someone only he can see. By day, he speaks to her only in commands. "Change the sheets," he says, or "Bring tea." She does as she’s told, tongue bitten bloody to keep from replying.Sometimes, when he’s gone, she imagines running. But the guards are always in the hall, and the only window is barred. She tries to push hope aside and focus on surviving th

  • Seraphina- The Alpha's Murderer Ā Ā Ā The Bond Ignites

Kael gave a command and they draged her up the stairs like something half-dead and unmentionable, two guards with wolf crests on their uniforms and expressions carved from brick. The corridor is silent except for the rasp of her bare feet against cold stone, and the way her wrists knock together when the guards swing her by the elbows, too practiced to care if her feet keep up. She doesn't protest. If there's any fight left in her, it's buried beneath the pain of her healing bruises and the heavier ache of dread. The door they bring her to is massive, banded in black iron and stamped with a moon emblem. One of the guards raps twice. The other unlocks the manacles, not gently. She rubs her raw wrists on instinct, wincing, then smooths the long, oversized shirt that’s her only covering. It smells of Kael—the same dark, electric scent as the rest of the tower, but richer. Closer. The guard sneers at her. "You're expected to behave. The Alpha doesn't like mess." He gestures her inside.Th

The words struck her like a slap, but she didn’t flinch. Instead she felt the bond between them draw tight, an almost visible cord humming beneath the skin. Kael’s eyes met hers, and for a brief, shattering instant she saw raw pain there, grief so bright it almost burned her. He looked away. ā€œWe’re done here,ā€ he said, voice cracking on the last word. The priestess swept past, dismissing them with a flick of her sleeve. As Seraphina turned to follow, Kael’s hand remained clamped on her arm, hot even through the fabric of her borrowed shirt. The sensation wasn’t pain, wasn’t even discomfort—it was a strange, numbing calm, as if his grip alone could hold her together when her own strength threatened to shatter. He didn’t let go until they were in the hall, out of earshot of the priestesses. Then, abruptly, he released her, as if burned. Seraphina caught her breath, her wrist tingling where his skin had touched hers. She dared a glance at him, and saw his face twisted in a snarl of fr

  • Seraphina- The Alpha's Murderer Ā Ā Ā The Only Living Link

Seraphina dug her nails into her palms, ignoring the hot pulse of pain. ā€œThe Alpha called for me. He’d been— he said he was feeling unwell. He asked for a tea I make, something for sleep. I brought it, like I always did.ā€ Her voice almost broke. ā€œHe was kind to me.ā€Kael stared at her a long time, as if searching for the lie in the cracks of her words. ā€œKind,ā€ he repeated, flat and skeptical. ā€œAnd yet you slit his throat.ā€She jerked her chin up. ā€œI didn’t. There was someone else. I saw a figure, a hooded— I know it sounds like a bad story, but it’s the truth.ā€Lysander’s gaze was not unkind, but he was relentless. ā€œDid you recognize the scent? Anything at all?ā€Seraphina shook her head. ā€œNo. The smell was masked, like sulfur and frost. I’m not making this up.ā€Kael made a dismissive noise. ā€œLet’s say you’re telling the truth. Let’s say someone wanted my brother dead, and wanted you blamed. Who benefits?ā€Lysander answered before she could. ā€œOnly one answer. The Heracles line. They’ve
