Chapter 6

Author: Perfect Timing
Solana wanted nothing more than to leave, but she didn't want to argue with him. So, she quietly followed his order and lay back down. She quietly thanked him, "Thank you, Uncle Isaiah."

Isaiah's cold gaze fell on her face, feeling like she was somehow different from before. In the past, she loved clinging to him most, chattering nonstop whenever she saw him. If something like this had happened, she would have already been crying and complaining to him.

Moreover, she hadn't called him "Uncle Isaiah" in a long time. At some point, she had started calling him by his name.

Thunder rumbled outside as the heavy rain continued falling. She obediently finished the IV drip under Isaiah's supervision.

"Solana—"

Isaiah was about to ask what was wrong with her lately and why she had become so well-behaved when a scream came from the next room. His expression grew serious, and he instinctively rushed out.

"Ally must have been startled awake by the thunder, and her depression is acting up again. I have to go comfort her."

Solana nodded silently, tears streaming down her cheeks. Although she knew he didn't have feelings for her, she couldn't help feeling heartbroken when he abandoned her.

Suddenly, a large hand landed on top of her head. "Be good. I'll be right back. Sleep for now, and I'll take you home later."

Isaiah didn't know why he returned after just stepping out of the bedroom. He felt uneasy, as if Solana might disappear at any moment. He rushed to the adjacent room again, picked up the screaming and frantic Alyssa, and took her to the safe room in the basement.

In her past life, Alyssa's episodes would strike suddenly, and Isaiah would shut himself in the so-called safe room with her. He would ignore the world for days until she calmed down.

Solana remembered one night when Harper was just six months old. Her temperature spiked, and she started convulsing from a seizure.

Solana was so scared she called Isaiah in tears, begging him to take Harper to the hospital. However, he scolded her for being inconsiderate, saying Alyssa couldn't be left alone during her episodes and told her to figure it out herself.

At that time, Solana had just given birth a while ago. What could she possibly do? So, she braved the freezing snow with Harper in her arms.

She didn't even have time to change; she just went out in her pajamas and slippers to flag down a ride. She didn't know how many times she knelt in the snow before a car finally took them to the hospital.

At the hospital, Harper was administered emergency care. Solana was only 19 at the time, and she had never experienced such an emergency. She was shaking so severely that she could barely sign the forms.

She knelt outside the ICU and called Isaiah countless times, but he never answered once. Afterward, he even blamed her, telling her not to disturb them with such trivial matters when Alyssa was having depression episodes.

A knock at the door brought Solana back from her thoughts. "Ally wants seafood bisque from The Palate. I'm going out to buy it for her. Can you watch her for a bit?"

She was stunned. Although she had initially planned to text Isaiah and leave, given the current situation, she had to agree.

Just minutes after he left, Alyssa emerged from the safe room. She looked at Solana with disdain, her lips curling in mockery. She looked nothing like a depressed patient who needed constant companionship.

Solana could immediately tell that Alyssa was faking it. After all, she had suffered from severe depression in her past life, and she knew what real depression patients were like.

Alyssa said, "You think using the baby to force him into marrying you makes you special? He loves me. He will always love me. You'll never compare to that."

Seeing that she hadn't provoked Solana's anger like usual, Alyssa felt the frustration building. Then, she suddenly smiled and added, "Solana, however much he used to love you, that's how much he'll hate you now!"

Solana looked at her in confusion, not understanding. However, Alyssa only laughed louder and returned to the safe room. Moments later, terrible screams could be heard from inside.

Solana's heart clenched. Without thinking, she sprinted toward the basement.

As he left the doctor's office, Isaiah's face was full of despair. It turned out he had already been given a death sentence back home, and coming here for treatment was his last hope. Yet, even this last hope had been shattered. He stumbled back to his hospital room and ran into Reuben, who had just returned. Reuben could tell from his expression that he knew everything. "Isaiah, the doctor said there's still hope, as long as you stay committed to treatment."However, these words seemed so pale and powerless at this moment. When Isaiah looked up again, his face was covered in tears. "Reuben, I don't want to die yet. I haven't won Sol back... I'm not ready to go!"He broke down in Reuben's arms, sobbing until exhaustion forced him back into bed. After that, Isaiah took treatment even more seriously. Although this hospital was already among the best in the world, he was still not satisfied, so he spent money on flying in top international specialists for consultations. He also s

Isaiah stared straight at Solana. She seemed taller than before, and her cheeks had filled out a little. It seemed like she had been doing just fine without him. That thought brought a pang of bitterness to Isaiah's heart. She was no longer the clingy little girl who used to follow him everywhere. He lifted his hand, wanting to pat her head like he used to, but in the end, he pulled it back. "Sol, I—""Uncle Isaiah, long time no see." Solana stepped forward and greeted him casually, then called out to the man behind him, "Uncle Reuben."Both greetings sounded equally natural, with no distinction between them.Isaiah's excitement instantly died down, but he couldn't give up. Using his illness as an excuse to come here for treatment was his only chance to win her back. He asked, "Sol, I want to talk to you alone. Is that okay?" Solana didn't answer directly but glanced at Reuben behind him. Reuben nodded and took his people to arrange the hospital admission. For a moment, onl

If Isaiah ever found out the truth about his condition...He didn't dare think that far ahead.Isaiah lay in bed, repeatedly turning a hair clip in his fingers, murmuring Solana's name under his breath. Watching him like that, Reuben's heart was full of worry. After making up his mind, Reuben called Solana abroad. "Hello, Sol. This is Reuben. I have something important to tell you." Solana had just finished a set of experiments and was surprised to receive this call. Before Cedric died, he had instructed the Jeffries family not to tell Solana about his death. Cedric knew they were doomed as a couple and didn't want them to rekindle their old feelings.Solana thought something had happened to Cedric and anxiously pressed for details. When s

However, it came at the cost of his health.Six months later, he was so haggard that he was unrecognizable. One morning, right after wrapping up an early meeting with the executive team, he collapsed in the conference room. When he woke up again, it was two days later. Isaiah had a very long dream while lying in the hospital bed. In the dream, he saw 18-year-old Solana confessing to him on her graduation day, and he agreed without hesitation. Solana said, "Go home? Uncle Isaiah, I'll never return to the Jeffries again, but I won't forget the kindness they showed in raising me. When I'm capable someday, I'll definitely repay them." Her words were steady and resolute, and the fire that had just been ignited in Isaiah's heart instantly went cold. She continued, "Uncle Isaiah, if there's nothing serious, I hope you won't bother me anymore. My studies are keeping me busy enough!" After hanging up, she let out a long sigh of relief. She used to think Isaiah was different from other men—calm, decisive, and thoughtful, but now she realized all men were the same. He had once been infatuated with Alyssa. And in the future, he would likely become infatuated with other women as well. She was still so young with unlimited possibilities ahead of her, and she didn't want to be held back by romance. She couldn't understand why her past self had been so foolish, placing all her hopes on one man. She could live an extraordinary life

However, he kept saying he wanted to pursue her and would propose to her.The very thing she had once dreamed of countless times had come true when she no longer wanted it. She finally understood that her past love had indeed been a burden for Isaiah, as she was now experiencing that burden herself. She tried to firmly reject him, but he was like a man possessed and wouldn't listen at all.Isaiah worried that he would affect Solana's studies, so he only called her during breakfast, lunch, and dinner times. Every phone call was a sincere plea for forgiveness. "Sol, I know you're still mad at me! You have every right to be angry with me. I did mess up, and now I regret it. "I'm begging for your forgiveness with all my heart. I'll keep asking, every day, until the day you forgive me!" Afraid she wouldn't believe him, he even swore on
