The screen blinked to life, immediately landing on a news channel.

And then I saw it.

The news anchor's voice cut through the living room like a knife. Her piercing blue eyes looked like they were staring directly at me, judging and filled with anger.

Everyone seemed to look at me like that lately.

"...accused of living under a false identity and deceiving one of New York's most powerful families. Sources close to the Orlandos have refused to comment, but silence speaks volumes."

She shared my name and the projections Alessia had shares during the gala. A wave of hate and anger rushed througg my skin at the sight of the picture of me and Dahlia displayed for the entire world to see.

I would never forgive Alessia for this. But I had a part to play in this as well, I wasn't exactly in the state to start planning out a revenge plan.

On the screen, footage played of Giovanni storming through a crowd of reporters, microphones shoved in his face, and cameras flashing. He said nothing

It had been a week already. Seven long days since everything crashed and burned. I had sent out countless applications to different jobs, remote and on site, but the scandal had spread like wildfire. Even the convenience store two blocks away had turned me down. Not even the minimum wage wanted me. I hadn't told my father about the pregnancy. Every time he mentioned how she didn't need to work or how she should rest and heal, I felt a fresh wave of guilt. Because if I spent one more day in that house, pretending like I wasn't falling apart, I was going to lose my mind. I had texted Giovanni. Every single day. But there was no reply. Worse still, every time I stepped outside, Alessia's face mocked me from billboards and digital ads. It felt like each bright smile on her face was mocking me but maybe I was overreacting. Would anyone blame me? I didn't even know where I stood with Giovanni anymore. Would he ask for a divorce? Could a divorce even stand since he literally married

I jolted upright, my chest rising and falling in panic. I could barely make out anything but Giovanni's voice still echoed in my mind like a ghost. He asked me to leave his house. He called me a liar. And he told me and Dad to both rot. It wasn't real, I told myself. It was a nightmare, a horrible one. My fingers clutched the sheets but they weren't the soft silk of the Orlando estate. They were plain cotton and familiar. I blinked rapidly and looked around. I was back home. This was my old room. My heart thudded louder as I shoved the sheets away. Last night wasn't a dream, everything that happened was real. Giovanni telling me to leave. The disappointment in the rest of the family. The disgust of the guests. And Alessia. I still couldn't believe that she was behind the blackmailing all along. But most of all, I didn't know how I got home. I remembered running away but after that, it was all blank. I clutched my throbbing head. "What happened last night?"My stomach twisted,

It was time for the evening's main event, the fundraising presentation. Everyone was already seated and waiting for the presentation. Alyssa stood at the podium, a bright smile now plastered on her face and I was relieved to see that she was better than earlier. I sat beside Giovanni, our fingers laced together. I leaned closer to him and whispered, "You look really handsome tonight." Giovanni smirked, whispering back, "And you're the only reason I came." Giovanni smirked, whispering back, "And you're the only reason I came."My smile bloomed effortlessly. But it disappeared the second I glanced toward the stage. Alyssa was staring straight at me and the look I gave wasn't just cold. It was venomous. I blinked, confused. Then Alyssa began. "Ladies and gentlemen," she said sweetly, her tone smooth, "before we dive into the vision for the Orlando Fund, I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge the people behind the face of our family." People clapped softly, unsure where she was

Enzo hesitated, his eyes scanning my face before answering. "I don't know if you'll like it.""Just say it, Enzo." He paused again, then finally said, "It's not Michelle." My heart dropped. "What?" I blinked. "She's clear. I had my guys follow her for days. There's nothing. No suspicious activity, no connections to whoever's been messing with you. If anything, she's just busy trying to book modeling gigs and dodging her debts." I stared at him, stunned. "But she knows things. Things only she could've used to-""I know, but anyone can get that information if they dig well enough." He said gently. "We're down to three people now. Alyssa, Darcy, and a girl who just started working in the kitchen two months ago." I blew out a restricted breath, raking my hands through my hair. It seemed like we were truly hitting a dead end. Alyssa couldn't possibly be the culprit, and neither was Darcy but I couldn't rule them out either. "Okay," I muttered morosely. He placed a hand on my shoul

The cab rolled to a quiet stop on the edge of a small, private cemetery. I stepped out, confused at first, then my heart sank as recognition hit. It was Dahlia's resting place. I walked forward, as the car sped off into the road, the gravel crunching underneath my feet. I pushed the gate and walked into the cold area, it was almost lifeless and I realized the irony of it. I didn't stop walking until I was in front of a familiar polished headstone nestled beneath a blossoming tree. The sight of my twin name carved into the stone made my throat close up. Dahlia Monroe. Beloved daughter, sister, and friend. A life that was snatched too early. I hadn't been here since the funeral. And I hadn't really said goodbye. I fell to my knees, and sank to the ground, my fingers brushing the cold marble. "I'm sorry I haven't been coming by," I whispered, my voice was trembling. Tears slowly blurred my vision and I couldn't hold them back. "To be honest. I don't know what I'm doing, D," cr
