Chapter 2

Author: Eggs Tomato
When Nora finished speaking, Rick tried to reach out to her again, but she just brushed him off with an annoyed wave of her hand. Then, she turned around to leave with the baby in her arms.

I hurried over to them.

Picking Rick up, I stepped in front of Nora to block her path. "Nora, what's the meaning of this?"

She probably didn't expect to see me just then. She could also have been shocked that I had returned without her knowledge.

Either way, for a moment, she was rooted to the spot. Her gaze was filled with disbelief as she looked at me.

Some time later, Nora held the child in her arms closer to her. She spoke in a soft voice, but I could hear some guilt in her voice, which was quite rare. "Why… are you here?"

With that, she seemed to have realized something as she whipped her head up. She looked at Rick, who was wiping his tears. "Is this Rick?"

When I heard that, my gaze darkened, and I forced a bitter smile on my face.

Rick was already five years old, but even now, Nora failed to recognize her own biological son.

I asked, "Nora, aren't you going to explain yourself? You…"

Before I could finish my sentence, several cars pulled up at the entrance of the restaurant. A group of people spilled out of the cars.

I froze when I saw the man in the lead. My heart was instantly filled with agony.

"Long time no see, Adam."

It was Carl Moore, my half-brother.

Back then, he and his mother had destroyed my originally happy family. They forced my mother to her death and sent me to a mental hospital.

Faced with Carl's provocative gaze, I couldn't help but recall all the horrible experiences I had in the past. My body began to tremble uncontrollably.

"Why are you standing out here? It's cold outside," Carl said affectionately as he put an arm around Nora's shoulders with practiced ease.

Even before I could say anything, Carl spoke up first. As if he were making sure everyone present could hear him, he said loudly, "Adam, Nora told me everything. You're so stubborn about being with her that you'd even willingly be the other man.

"But now, Nora and I already have a child, so please stop bothering her. She and I are already married. Do you really want to get in the way of other people's marriage, just like your mom did back then?"

In an instant, the crowd turned to look at me and began whispering among themselves. They were hurling insults at me.

Clenching my fists, I turned to look at the woman standing next to Carl. Then, I asked in a low voice, "Nora, is that true?"

But before Nora could say something, Rick shook off my hand and pulled out the marriage certificate from my backpack.

Approaching Nora, Rick took her hand and asked in a choked voice, "Mom, aren't you married to Dad? Why do you have a baby with someone else? Did I do something that made you upset? Mom, look, this is yours and Dad's marriage certificate. Dad always keeps it on him."

Carl stepped forward, ignoring Rick's protests as he grabbed the marriage certificate and examined it.

The next second, Carl held it up and waved it at me. He said in a mocking tone, "Adam, you've gone too far. This marriage certificate is fake. When are you going to stop lying to yourself? I mean, this certificate isn't even stamped!"

With that, Carl pulled out another marriage certificate from his bag. Then, he smiled as he handed it to me. "Here, this is what a real marriage certificate looks like. By the way, when Nora and I went to get our marriage certificate, I made sure to record the whole process. Take a good look at this."

Carl then showed me his phone. It was playing a video of them getting their marriage certificate.

In the video, Nora was smiling blissfully, but the sight was so unbearable that I almost teared up in pain.

But before I could release the evidence online, a post related to Moore Group went viral overnight. It was a post written by Nora.In the post, she admitted that she had stolen from me the core technology and relevant documents on the high-sensitivity robot and given them to Carl. At the end of her post, she wrote an earnest confession meant for me. "I was at the age where I couldn't understand love, but I encountered a man who loved me with everything he had. Back then, instead of appreciating him, I turned his heartfelt love into a weapon aimed back at him. That was also how I brought about a disaster that I would never be able to forgive myself for."Adam, I'm sorry. I'm really sorry for everything I've done. Also, Adam, I love you. For the entirety of my life, I will only love you and only you."As I read the wall of text, I simply smiled. Then, I navigated to my draft and pressed the send button.I would get revenge for my son and me.…The next day, Carl's and Nora's nam

Before I could react, Nora stepped forward and shoved Carl away. Her voice was filled with anger. "Don't hurt him!"That was what she said, but she was the one who had hurt me the deepest.I had no intention of getting involved in their business, so I turned around to leave. But Nora would have none of it. She went up to me and gripped my wrist with a force so powerful that I couldn't escape. "Adam, nothing is going on between Carl and me. What happened between us… was just an accident. Well, how about this? Adam, just wait until Mia turns five years old. As soon as she turns that age, I'll divorce Carl and marry you. Let's get married, okay?"Finally shaking off her hand, I answered in a calm tone, "No."Then, I turned to look at Nora. Smiling wryly, I had a cold look on my face as I said, "Nora, I hate you."Nora's eyes went wide, and she staggered backward.I turned around and started heading out the door.Something occurred to me, so I paused and said quietly to the two b

I continued, "Later on, you told me you were pregnant. Did you know how happy I was back then? We finally had a child! So, I worked even harder. I even asked to be sent abroad for work, and I brought Rick with me so you wouldn't have to worry about him. "To see you sooner, and to make sure you and Rick could live better lives, I even took on some part-time jobs."As I spoke, I rolled up my sleeve and showed Nora my arm. "Look. I slipped and fell during a shift and had to get over 30 stitches."Then, I put on a self-deprecating smile. "How pathetic. Back then, I wasn't worried about my wound at all or how serious or deep it was. I was just worried that you might be upset when you saw it. And so, I was so arrogant that I tattooed your name over it to cover it up."This year, I finally earned enough money, and I could finally bring Rick back here. Our family could finally be reunited. But when I arrived at our rented place, it was already locked up and covered in dust. A neighbor tol

Even after all the funeral arrangements were made, Nora still quietly followed behind me.At the funeral, Nora was wearing black clothes as she tried to stand next to me to greet those who had come to mourn Rick. But before she could get closer, I spoke up, saying, "Rick doesn't have a mother like you. You're not welcome here."I looked up at her as I spoke. This was the first time I actually looked at her in the past few days. "Also, let's have a proper talk after the funeral."Nora shuddered when she heard that, and she felt the sinking feeling in her chest once again.…In the days that followed, I never saw Nora again. She seemed to be avoiding me, or she could be running away from something. After everything was over, I checked the location tracking app and arrived at Nora's home.As soon as I pressed the doorbell, Carl poked his head out of the front door. "You're here, Adam. Come on in."He reached up and pulled me into the house, his eyes gleaming with gloating glee.

As soon as I finished speaking, it began to rain heavily.Nora stood in the storm, a terrible sinking feeling suddenly washing over her. It was on a similarly stormy night when she learned that she was pregnant with my baby. But back then, I was on a business trip overseas. Her company was in dire straits, and she felt like she had hit rock bottom. She began to find fault with everything, and she frequently got sick. She even considered breaking up with me.It was also then that Carl showed up in her life. That day, she had gotten into a huge argument with me because I didn't respond to her messages quickly enough. She had just ended the call when Carl came knocking. After that night she spent with Carl, she began to hate the child in her womb, so much so that she even thought about getting rid of him.But every time she decided to abort the child, she would get a call from me. By the time I opened the door to the meeting room at the office, documents in hand, everyone else had already gathered there. At that moment, Carl was sitting in the CEO's seat. When he saw me, he smiled. "Since everyone's here, let us begin. Everyone still remembers this, right? Ten years ago, when my father passed away, he stated clearly in his will that only the person who manages to develop a high-sensitivity robot can inherit the company."And now, I have developed the high-sensitivity robot he wanted. The help from my wife has been instrumental in the development of this robot. So now, I'd like to have my wife, Nora Palmer, give us a thorough introduction."When Carl finished speaking, Nora entered the room in a white suit. She had the slides displayed on the screen as she gracefully delivered the presentation to the audience. However, the wall of words on the slides described the fruits of my labor, which I had painstakingly worked on for years. In the end, I couldn't stan
