Chapter 2

A familiar cramping pain suddenly twisted in my stomach as I watched Kellan storm away. I knew it was the wolfsbane poison acting up again.

I stumbled into the washroom and doubled over the toilet, heaving violently.

Just as I was throwing up nothing but bile, Lia's voice rang out behind me. "Oh my, Ella, what's wrong with you? Why are you throwing up so badly? Are you pregnant?"

I struggled to lift my head and saw Lia holding up her phone, pointing it at me. The look of concern on her face from earlier was long gone.

"What are you doing?" I asked, my voice hoarse.

Lia raised her chin and questioned me contemptuously, "All that pitiful talk about how you're about to die earlier on was just your way of forcing Kellan into accepting that bastard pup in your womb, wasn't it?"

Enduring the pain, I forced through gritted teeth, "What nonsense are you talking about? I'm not pregnant! Delete the video now! You have no right to do this!"

"Too late!" Lia said, sticking her tongue out at me. "I already sent it to him! What's the matter? Too afraid to admit what you've done? Or were you planning to hide it from him forever and make him the father of your bastard pup?"

A mix of exasperation and fury shot right through me in an instant. For a moment, I couldn't even feel the pain in my body anymore.

I snarled at her, "Get out. Get out of my sight right now! I don't want to see you again!"

"Well, well, seems like your true colors are finally showing through, huh?" Lia taunted with the same infuriating look on her face as always.

"I knew it. Why else would you be so kind as to give me the hosting position? So it turns out you were just worried you'd start throwing up during the offering ceremony, weren't you? Tsk tsk. To think that you even made up a lie about dying! How shameless!"

Shaking with rage, I grabbed a roll of toilet paper beside me and hurled it at her.

She sidestepped and easily dodged it, not missing a beat as she sneered, "It seems that after spending a year in the wilderness with those rogues, you've forgotten how to act properly, Ella! I suggest you skip the upcoming ritual. We wouldn't want you embarrassing the family!"

With that, she flounced off. I tried to stop her, but my legs were too weak to take a single step.

The violent churning in my stomach still tormented me, and the pain was so bad I could only cling to the toilet, gasping for air in heavy breaths.

Suddenly, a metallic taste rose in my throat, and I spat out a mouthful of blood.

Looking at the bright red splatters on the tiles, I knew I would not live to see tomorrow.

Then gradually, as my consciousness began to fade, I felt as if I had returned to the wilderness, to that barren desert.
