“You have two choices, Emma marry Damien Blackwood… or walk out of this house with nothing.”

Emma stared at Vivian in disbelief.

Her ears rang as if the world around her had suddenly fallen silent.

“…What?”

Vivian folded her arms, her expression as cold as stone.

“You heard me.”

Emma looked from her stepmother to Sophia, hoping one of them would laugh and admit it was a cruel joke.

Neither did.

Sophia sat comfortably on the sofa, scrolling through her phone as though they weren’t discussing another person’s future.

Emma’s heart sank.

“They… they asked for Sophia,” she whispered.

“They never asked for me.”

Vivian smirked.

“They asked for a daughter of the Hayes family.”

“You are legally one.”

Emma shook her head repeatedly.

“No… this is wrong.”

Vivian’s patience snapped.

“Wrong?” she barked. “Do you know what’s wrong? Raising an ungrateful girl for three years!”

Emma’s eyes widened.

“Raising me?”

“Yes!” Vivian shouted. “Who fed you after your father died? Who gave you a roof over your head?”

Emma bit her lip so hard it almost bled.

She wanted to scream.

She wanted to tell Vivian that she had earned every meal by working from dawn until midnight.

She cleaned every room in the mansion.

Cooked every meal.

Washed every piece of laundry.

Ironed Sophia’s expensive dresses.

Polished Vivian’s shoes.

She wasn’t living there for free.

She was paying with her life.

But experience had taught her one painful lesson.

Arguing only made things worse.

Sophia finally looked up from her phone.

“Honestly, Emma,” she said casually, “I don’t know why you’re acting like this.”

Emma stared at her.

“I’m acting like what?”

“As if you’re the victim.”

Sophia stood and walked toward her.

“You should be grateful.”

Emma let out a bitter laugh.

“Grateful?”

“Yes.”

Sophia circled her slowly.

“Do you honestly think someone like you could ever marry into the Blackwood family on your own?”

Emma remained silent.

Sophia smiled triumphantly.

“You’ve spent years cleaning this house.”

“Now you’ll get to clean a bigger one.”

Vivian laughed.

Emma’s face burned with humiliation.

She had endured countless insults over the years.

But this…

This felt different.

They weren’t just insulting her.

They were deciding her future without even asking what she wanted.

Late that afternoon, Emma escaped to the garden.

It was the only place in the mansion where she could breathe.

She sat beneath the large oak tree her father had planted on her tenth birthday.

Tears finally slipped down her cheeks.

“Dad…” she whispered.

“I don’t know what to do anymore.”

The gentle breeze rustled the leaves above her.

For a moment, she closed her eyes.

She remembered sitting beneath this same tree years ago, laughing while her father promised that no one would ever hurt his little girl.

Life had proved otherwise.

“Emma.”

She quickly wiped her tears.

Vivian stood a few steps away.

“I’ve made my decision.”

Emma slowly stood.

“I can’t marry him.”

Vivian’s face hardened.

“That’s not your decision to make.”

“It is my life.”

Vivian stepped closer.

“And I’m the one keeping you alive.”

Emma stared at her.

“If you refuse…”

Vivian spoke each word slowly.

“…I’ll throw you out of this house tonight.”

Emma felt the blood drain from her face.

“You’ll leave with only the clothes on your back.”

“No money.”

“No inheritance.”

“No place to sleep.”

“You’ll never step inside this house again.”

Emma’s hands trembled.

“You can’t do that.”

“I can.”

“And I will.”

Vivian took one last step until they were almost face to face.

“So tell me…”

“Will you marry Damien Blackwood…”

“…or will you become homeless before sunrise?”

Emma’s vision blurred with tears.

She had nowhere to go.

No relatives willing to help.

No savings.

No job.

Her father had left her a home.

But after his death…

Everything had been placed under Vivian’s control.

She was trapped.

Completely trapped.

Sophia appeared at the garden entrance.

“So?” she asked impatiently.

“Has she agreed?”

Vivian never looked away from Emma.

“She will.”

Emma’s shoulders slumped.

The fight slowly left her eyes.

She hated herself for giving in.

But survival had always come before pride.

With trembling lips…

She whispered the words that would change her life forever.

“…I’ll do it.”

A satisfied smile spread across Vivian’s face.

Sophia let out a relieved sigh.

Neither woman noticed the silent tear that rolled down Emma’s cheek.

To them, they had solved a problem.

To Emma…

She had just surrendered her future.

“Sir… we’ve reviewed the CCTV footage.” Damien looked up sharply. The head of security stood outside the emergency room, breathing heavily after rushing to the hospital. “What did you find?” Damien asked. The guard swallowed. “The SUV didn’t lose control.” Richard Blackwood frowned. “What are you saying?” The guard handed a tablet to Damien. “We reviewed every camera around the estate.” “The driver deliberately turned the vehicle toward you, Chairman.” Silence fell over the hallway. Richard’s face lost its color. Damien replayed the footage. The black SUV had a clear path to leave through the front gate. Instead… It swerved sharply toward the garden. Toward Richard. Emma had seen it just in time. Without thinking about her own safety, she had pushed Richard away. The SUV struck her instead. Damien’s grip tightened around the tablet. His knuckles turned white. “So it wasn’t an accident,” he said coldly. “No, sir.” “We’ve already infor

“Mrs. Blackwood, don’t go outside!” Emma stopped halfway down the staircase. She turned to the maid. “The young woman is still waiting?” The maid nodded nervously. “Yes, Mrs. Blackwood. Security won’t let her in, but she refuses to leave.” Emma frowned. “I’ll speak to her.” Before she could take another step, Damien’s deep voice echoed through the hall. “No.” Emma turned. He had just walked out of his study, his expression calm as always. “You don’t know who she is,” he continued. “It isn’t safe.” Emma looked at him in surprise. “I’ll only be gone for a minute.” Damien walked toward her. “If someone has business with the Blackwood family, security will handle it.” Emma hesitated before nodding. “Alright.” Damien looked at the head of security. “Find out who she is.” “Yes, sir.” The guard hurried outside. A few minutes later, he returned. “Sir, the woman left.” “Did she give a name?” “No.” Damien’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Check the security cameras and fi

“Mrs. Blackwood… you’re on the front page of every business newspaper in the country.” The morning sun poured into Emma’s bedroom as she slowly opened her eyes. For the first time since moving into Blackwood Mansion, she had slept peacefully. Last night’s charity gala still lingered in her mind. The elegant ballroom. The flashing cameras. The whispers. And Damien… She smiled faintly as she remembered the way he had stood by her side throughout the evening. A gentle knock interrupted her thoughts. “Mrs. Blackwood?” Margaret called from outside. “I’m awake.” Margaret entered carrying a breakfast tray and several newspapers. “Good morning.” Emma smiled. “Good morning, Margaret.” As Margaret placed the tray on the table, one newspaper slipped onto the floor. Emma bent to pick it up. The moment she saw the front page, her eyes widened. There was a full-page photograph of her and Damien dancing together. The headline read: “THE ICE KING MELTS? DAMIE

The ballroom buzzed with conversation as the orchestra played softly in the background. Emma stood beside Damien, trying not to let the attention around them overwhelm her. Business executives, investors, politicians, and media personalities filled the luxurious hall. Almost everyone seemed to know Damien. “Mr. Blackwood.” A middle-aged businessman approached with a smile. “It’s an honor to finally meet your wife.” Damien nodded politely. “This is Emma.” The man extended his hand. “Mrs. Blackwood, congratulations.” Emma shook his hand with a warm smile. “Thank you.” As the evening continued, Damien introduced Emma to several business partners. She listened more than she spoke. Whenever someone addressed her, she answered politely and confidently. Her calm manners gradually impressed the guests. Not everyone was pleased. Across the room, Vanessa Blackwood watched with narrowed eyes. “I don’t understand,” she muttered to Victor. “She’s supposed to embarrass the fami

  • THE BRIDE MY STEPSISTER GAVE AWAY   CHAPTER 13: THE JEALOUS EYES

“Mr. Blackwood, may I have the honor of introducing myself to your beautiful wife?” The ballroom of the Grand Imperial Hotel glittered beneath enormous crystal chandeliers. It was the annual Blackwood Foundation Charity Gala, attended by the country’s wealthiest business leaders, celebrities, and influential families. Emma stood beside Damien, feeling slightly overwhelmed. She had never imagined she would one day attend an event like this. “You don’t have to look so nervous,” Damien said quietly. Emma glanced at him. “I’m trying not to embarrass you.” “You won’t.” His answer was simple. But somehow, it eased her anxiety. A photographer approached them. “Mr. and Mrs. Blackwood, over here, please.” Damien instinctively placed a hand at the small of Emma’s back, guiding her toward the cameras. Flash! Flash! Flash! The photographers smiled. “Perfect.” “You two look wonderful together.” Emma lowered her eyes shyly. As they entered the ballroom, w

  • THE BRIDE MY STEPSISTER GAVE AWAY   CHAPTER 12: DINNER WITH THE BLACKWOOD

“A woman with no status has no right to bear the Blackwood name.” The words shattered the silence the moment Emma stepped into the grand dining hall. Every eye turned toward her. Her feet froze. The Blackwood family’s dining room was even more magnificent than the rest of the mansion. A long mahogany table stretched across the room beneath glittering crystal chandeliers. More than a dozen members of the Blackwood family were already seated, each dressed in expensive designer clothes. Emma suddenly felt very small. Richard Blackwood looked around the room. “I invited you all here because it’s time you officially meet Damien’s wife.” No one applauded. No one smiled. Instead, they studied Emma from head to toe as if she were an object on display. A middle-aged woman wearing a diamond necklace placed her wine glass on the table. “So…” “This is the woman Damien married?” Her tone dripped with disappointment. Richard’s expression hardened. “Yes.” The woman laughed softly.
